American Flag Illusion in the Sunset for Memorial Day

It’s Memorial Day here in the United States. For many, it’s a day that marks the official start of summer. A day for picnics and barbecues, family and friends.

However, Memorial Day has a much deeper meaning. It’s a day to remember and honor the fallen soldiers who have fought and died protecting our freedom. A day to remember those that never made it home. For some, its a very bittersweet day and emotional day. The soldiers who made it home and the families the fallen soldiers left behind may spend at least part of today graveside or at war memorials, laying flowers and speaking to loved ones who are no longer with us.

It’s days like today, that a simple flag illusion can be so powerful, moving, and overwhelmingly emotional. I actually ran across this flag illusion some time ago, but I’ve been saving it for today…

This flag illusion photograph was taken by Chicago photographer Jeff Lewis a few years ago. While it’s not the perfect likeness of the American flag, I can definitely see why many saw it as a flag illusion at the time.

The blue clouds in the upper left corner look like the blue portion of the American flag. The setting sun is also hitting the lower clouds in such a way that they look like the red and white stripes of the flag.

Not a super crazy flag illusion today, but definitely a striking one. Hopefully, you’ll take a moment to appreciate this flag illusion and take a moment to appreciate what it represents—our freedom and the brave men and women who died protecting it.
