Victor Vasarely Pop Art Watches

Every now and then we feature some rare optical illusion gadget on this website. They are rare products, but give me much joy when I come across them! Op-Art pioneer Victor Vasarely was profoundly influenced by Bauhaus, constructivism, cubism and surrealism from the early days. He began his unmistakable geometric abstraction from the 1930’s through his heyday of optical illusion of the sixties and seventies. Late in his career, Bulova Inc. produced a series of wristwatches with Vasarely’s artwork on the dial and engraved signature on the case back. Very difficult to find, one of the more interesting models was the “Four Squares”, which picture you can see below. A double-sided propeller-style seconds hand made this watch even more unique. This remarkable piece of art is surely something I would love to have in my inventory! If you like this optical illusion gadgets, be sure to check our Toys Category and browse through: Optical Illusion Nokia cover, Apple’s Mighty Mouse, do-it-yourself dragon illusion, cube toy puzzle, and the Mirage hologram… You can find more on these watches on vasarely.com.

  1. OMG! At first I thought it wasent much too it, but I finally saw the face after about 3 minutes, it helps when you squint your eyes and tilt your head!!!

  2. yea this was alrgiht, but i would like to get something like a real optical illusion, one that is really optical. yea it would be good to get some old ones also (meaning old school illusions).

  3. I’m not seeing the face and I imagine that it would be hard to tell the actual time on a watch like this…not one of my fav’s.

  4. OMG!!!! I cant see anything but 4 squares lots of circles and the clocks hands……. and yea like “that guy” i can even tell the time!!!! jeez you must be crazy to buy this

  5. You need to squint your eyes, and tilt your head a little to the left. The hands of the watch, along with the center of the circle make out a face. Actually, very cool!

  6. I think the bottom-right circle is the nose, the upper-left and bottom-right circles are the eyes, and the upper-right circle is the forehead. look at the tilted bottom picture, or tilt your head to left. I think thats the face

  7. ok well i’ve been reading the comments below and i dont see a face

  9. its really not anything tho get worked up on, it’s not like the Face in The Coffie Beans illusion, It look somewhat like this only rotated:

    ( )
    ( o ) ( o )
    ( )
And its made out of the 3-D pop-out circles

  10. It’s one of those Sterograph things, the face floats “above” the image when you squint your eyes… and it’s a VERY real face.

    Very cool!

  11. it didnt say any thing about a face in the blurb above the pic, i think you people are reading into this too much, this is a cool watch, with cool hands, albeit it is tough to tell time off it, but a watch none the less.
would any one know how to get one, and how much it may cost?
