I had some fun time thinking how to name this illusion. Few lines came to me, like: Seal-ly Bear, Bear-ly Seal etc. Well, this is one of the famous old-school illusions, created in 1996 by Lausanne G. Sarcone. It has been circulating the web for eternity. I’m not sure quite frankly why we haven’t published it up till today. Probably because back then I didn’t find it so interesting, but lately people email me asking why we don’t post true optical illusions anymore. We do infact, and here is an orthodox one. What do you see: a seal, a polar bear, a dark hole in forming a small “lake“, or all three together? Which of them is most obvious? I got some awesome submissions in my mailbox, but my queue is mile long… Patience, please.
Inside this article there is another similar illusion. It was submitted by Riju Dasgupta, who said: “Hey I found this interesting illusion. It’s like the old duck-and-hare illusion but with new animals.” It also shows a seal :)

The second one is cool; I’ve seen the first one several hundred times. Still though, it’s really neat!
Polar Bears are awesome, too bad with global warming and such they’re now endangered =(
Those optical illusions don’t appeal to me as much as the others. I dunno, i guess it’s cuz the picture has bad quality :/
I think that the seal is the most obvious, followed by the polar bear and then the “lake”. I didn’t spot the lake until it was metioned. They are coooool!

don’t worry I saw a kangaroo at first too anonymous anyway… I see all three but the polar bear to me I can’t see the body…

Hey, first post of 2010 here. These pics r what true opticall illusions r about. They r the ones that started it all to even more great achievements. Sop for those of u who think these r lame, back off, cause with out these basics, we probably wouldn’t have the better and cool optical illusions today.
