Camouflaged Tree Illusion

Look carefully, there is a slingshot-shaped tree in the middle of the photo. Can you see it? Probably you’ll manage, but you’ll need few seconds to find it. I can’t believe how well nature camouflaged it. It really fits well into background, like it has chameleon’s capability to adjust tone of the skin color. What I liked here is the simplicity, and idea how illusions can be found almost anywhere around you – you just have to have a good eye to spot them. If you find similar cool photos somewhere in your collection, be sure to send them in, and if they are good enough, I’ll post them on Mighty Optical Illusions homepage. Enjoy!

  1. I couldn’t find it on the widget, too small. Once I opened it in Safari, I found it pretty quick. That’s pretty cool!
Yay, first post! (to my knowledge)

  2. Tree? Where?
    No, really. Hehe.

P.S., All you people saying “how is this an illusion?”, shut up cos I bet you couldn’t find a new illusion picture every day.

    Nice one.

  3. wow! unbelieveble how the tree makes things around it look so chazy so that u dont follow where its going! amazing photo to my chindaer! Thanks!

  4. now you should take a picture of some rocks and say, “hey look the rocks are blending in with the rocks.”

  5. I don’t think that nature camouflaged the tree, more that the same lichen colonised the tree and the rocks behind it.

  6. i know how hard it is to come up with an illusion every day, but i’m really dissapointed. Not really an illusion

  7. Pretty awesome. I was wondering wat in the heck was it till i read the paragraph and then i saw the tree immediatly!! Pretty Awesome

    Like It Much!!!!

  8. I saw it as a tree, I didn’t think that it was a part of the background.
But, I can see where someone can make that mistake.
It’s still a decent picture, though.

  9. not really an illusion…it is real!

and is caused by the same vegetation growing on the rocks and tree

by that measure painting a radiator the same colour as the wall it is fixed on would be an illusion

  10. Ugh. You can do better. By the way, on the other comments the times are at like 6 in the morning. How do people get up that early?!

  11. It is cool because this is nature at its best. No human force or ability has made this tree camouflaged the way it is. You have to appreciate that. It may not be an illusion its more of a spot the object kind of thing. BTW i luv ur site.

  12. Well, that’s just stupid. This isn’t camouflage; we’re seeing the same thing. The tree is covered in the same lichens as the stone behind it.

This may (arguably) be an illusion because at first glance the tree may be hard to spot, but it certainly isn’t camouflage.

  13. Stop with the yay first comments, seriously they make me not to even want to come to the site anymore.

Pretty picture though on a happy note.

  14. omg u idiots thats the point hes trying to make, that you can see illusions all around you! The whole point is that it is common. Pretty cool illusion

  15. I dont get why you guys keep complaining about all the pictures posted…just appreciate them illusion or not or dont post.

    nice pic btw :)

  16. hey you guys kiddin me that’s all you’s see.
As soon as i saw i saw the shape of an elephant.
Not a fully distinctive one but if you look at the top right hand side of the tree you can imagine it as the trunk up in the air…

I see alot in things hahah

    Cheers..

  17. I find it amusing that the two people that didn’t care about getting the first comment got it before the people who did care.

  18. yea tree is visible but still blends into the background but i dont see how its to the tree advantage to camouflage itself.. it has no predators unless it wants animals to run into it for fun!

  19. I saw it after I read the paragraph, I think it’s pretty cool, because it’s a natural optical illusion!

  20. Hey. I DID see the tree straight away..but…is it just me or is there a horse-face type thing on the left? Proably just me…im strange like that.

  21. an illusion is something that deceives by producing a false or misleading impression of reality. so if you werent decieved it doesnt mean its not an illusion because others may have been.

  22. LOL! That was the first thing I saw… I didn’t read the description till afterward. I was like: WTF? Whats w/ the slingshot tree?

  23. i saw the tree right away. i spent 5 minutes looking for a soldier or something until i read the article >.<
