Back To Our Roots and a Poll

Are these poles straight and parallel?
Are these poles straight and parallel?

I’d like to thank you for your replies, yesterday. I learned some new things, but also got an affirmation to some of my previous beliefs. What I’m even more proud of, is that our little community has finally matured enough to lead a decent and polite conversation – even when your views differ. If I’m not mistaken, there weren’t any offensive comments yesterday, but I’ll double-check just in case. Hope you don’t mind me sharing my personal thoughts here and then, after all – some optical illusions speak for themselves. This gives me enough space to discuss topics I’m personally interested in. Btw, I have  implemented a pool poll beneath – Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this:

[poll id=”3″]

Other thing I realized, is that as much as I strive to bring you newest real-life illusions, sometimes I forget that not all of you followed this blog from day one. Sometimes I need to be reminded that classic optical illusions are the ones that make strong foundations to this blog. In honor to them, I’ll post some classics ones in days to follow. Don’t be mistaken, none of them were posted before. They’ll still make a great illusion, yet with all my dedication to this site I somehow found them too repeating at some point. I probably forget you aren’t looking at all those illusion pictures on my drive each day, for hours and hours…

  1. Way to go Vurdlak! It is not very often that we get to see the “man behind the curtain”. Nice to know you are an intelligent / thinking / thoughtful human! Keep up the great work with the illusions. I don’t always click in from my Google Widget, but I look at the illusions every day. Thanks!

  2. Unfortunately I am not able to vote on your poll, nor am I able to view the results, but I suspose this is a fault of my computer… Anyway, I think you should indeed continue to share your personal thoughts, like you did yesterday. Although I didn’t agree with you, I found it interesting to hear your opinion on Freemasonry, and I think the persons that blamed you for posting nonsense just to draw attention for you Freemasonry story weren’t the ones that have been following this site for some time now. Because if they were, they would know that you are always in search of quality and just want to provide us with the most interesting material, which will sometimes include some of your personal thoughts as well. Without them, this blog would not be as special as it is now. I really appreciate all the work you put into it as well as your personal stories, which add liveliness and style. Please continue the work you are doing now!

  3. i personally love your illusions and sometimes its refreshing to see different illusions then the old ones. Everytime I google illusion it’s all the smae but your site brings has so many different illusions and categories. That’s one of the reasons I am still, always commenting and reading.
I like how you talk about what your interested in but I unerstand their are people who don’t like them. Maybe you could either make it clear which paragraph is on the illusion and which is personal info. By little sub titles or you could use an expansion box for your personal info. That solution would probably make everyone happy.

  4. I think your site is intriguing, curious, and both challenging and fun.
Your added comments and insights enhance learning and its pleasure. RH

  5. I am sure you got many complaints yesterday due to your comments about your beliefs, I would just kike to state that as an atheist I found nothing you said offensive. Your beliefs are your beliefs and you to refrain from acknowledging them would not only be dishonest but in my opinion would make the site less interesting.

  6. It says an illusion a day, but I’ve had the same optical illusion sometimes for 2 days, and this last one, the “Store Front”…..for way more than one day. Finally was just so fed up that I went to your site, and finally found a new one.
Per day makes me hope there will be different on every time I wake up and check my mail.

Love the illusions, but sometimes get tired of how long they stick around.

  7. HELLO!!!
First, I thank you for all the wonderful and magnificent illussions you have shared, and for the effort I imagine it must take from you to keep up this place fresh and interesting.
I`ve been thinking for a while what could I send that you do not already have, and a few days ago I´ve found it…kind of. Since I have not been able to find any pictures on the web, but will keep trying until I can send you at least 5 or 6. I´m talking about the Cacahuamilpa grouts in México -Im mexican, by the way- wich are not only beautiful but also shaped in some many amazing ways.
I promise I´ll send some images as soon as I can get my hands on some good ones.
If you can spare the time, look them up.
    See you!

  8. just a minor note: it’s a poll, not a pool.. :-)

Awesome website! I visit it everyday, and really do look forward to not only the illusions, but also your comments which go along with it. :-)

  9. I like art illusion like the Lionmouse Optical Illusion
I love real word illusions like the Store Window Optical Illusion or the Village Turned that into Optical Illusion
But the best are the classic style like this one and the Shady Optical Illusion or the even more classic one, the Yellow Liliac Chaser Illusion
And lately it look like you forgot a little about the last one, I don’t know if it is hard to find new ones since the seem so repetitive some times or that you really are keeping your mind in the other ones since most people like the others categories.

  10. Hi, i’m only new to this site, but its great. the illusions are great. this one is awesome!

don’t stop what you are doing!

    -gigi

  11. yes of course you should!

One of the reasons i like mo so much is that personal touch to it. Its not just a Site to come and look and go away. there are plenty of those. The creator here actually think about what viewers will like, and what is interested before posting, and has an opinion to express.

Nice piece today by the way, they should make one of those in real life! wouldnt exactly be hard….

  12. Wtf? There was no water in your pool. I broke my nose. You’ll be hearing from my lawyer.

Seriously though, Vurdlak, ok still not seriously – consider giving us an April fool’s illusion once a year. eg. Like the illusion above, but where the poles really are leaning outwards. That should really p*** off your purists.

  13. this is a cool site but i HATE the personal comments and i can never see or find the explanation on the illusion.

  14. Yeah it is good to know there is a real person behind the site, something a lot of sites lack. As for the content I hope to feel I am open to other peoples thoughts and ideas (if that’s not the same thing?), bring it on!

  15. I think your views on things are very interesting, particularly yesterday’s as I do share similar views although I don’t think I’ll ever be sure what I think or believe!!

I’m the same as a few others, I look at the illusions every day from igoogle and click through to the site when I find an interesting one (which is often at least 4 times a week!!)

Keep up the good work, brilliant site, as I love illusions, and adding a personal touch with your own comments on the world just makes it even more unique!

I’m going to stop now because if we keep on commenting like this you’re not going to be able to fit through a doorway with that head!! :-)

  16. Just do it! (Nike, I’m sorry…)
You can easily make it fit for all people:
People who are only interested in the illusion read only the first part of your text about the illusion. Everything else you’ve got on your mind will be posted below. Nothing to worry for the people who are not interested in your opinion! The just have to read less. :)

As long as the illusion part is easily founded and the igoogle gadget will still be working as it is, its all alright!

    Greetings, NeeL

  17. Part of the reason I visit this this site the ‘personal touch’. It gives the site personality, rather then just feeling like a robot feeding us illusions, you know?
    It’s a really great website :)

  18. I agree that you should put your personal comments on this site because it is your site. I am just suggesting that you maybe put the explanation of the illusion first. Mainly becuase the people who do want to read your comments will read on further but some people are here just for the illusion. Good job with this site cause its amazing! Continue the great work :D

  19. I think a little personal touch is fine- like what attracted you to the illusion in the first place, but I get fed up when this site is filled with political or religious views. Obviously not everybody is going to agree, so when I am looking through the comments to find what the “answer” is to your illusion (because it is often not posted in your blurb) I just see a bunch of unhappy people arguing. Please stick to a short personal story at most and focus on what this site is about: OPTICAL ILLUSIONS

  20. I have been a really big fan of this site, recommending it to others and doing everything else like that, but I do feel that sometimes the personal comments can draw away from the Illusion. When the comments are somewhat related to the illusion, it is interesting, but th irrelevant personal stuff should only be used in moderation, as it draws away attention from the illusions

BTW still love the site & its illusions!

    Ryan

  21. I agree with LB. Keep the personal posts focussed around the illusion itself. Don’t use it as a place to talk about opinions on other matters, because then the site becomes something other than a discussion of illusions. No matter how mature the discussion of freemasonry was, it was way off topic. If you truly wish to uphold the fact that this is primarily geared towards the illusion of the day, keep your posts focussed on it and the discussions will remain so as well.

If, however, you cannot resist to add in a blurb about something random, put it at the end of your post. I think a few people mentioned this already, but most people are reading to find out more about the illusion first.

  22. Am new here also and I love it and I always read what you have to say b-4 I even look at them. keep up the good work i dont think meany of us would like it as much without your thoughts.
    thanks
found it just a week ago and love it
    JD

  23. luv the comments because i always cover up the pic before just in case its like scary then when im done reading what it is i look

    im a wimp lol

  24. i can barely find where you are explaining the illusion. i think if you are going to post your opinins, you should put the illusion information first and then in a lower paragraph put your thoughts.

  25. Not only do your off-topic thoughts add a personal touch, they also provide a starting point for our discussions here.

However, I too find some of your thoughts- especially the links provided- to be totally unrelated to the illusion presented. I agree with the other people here that they should be (at least) placed at the bottom in a separate paragraph.
