1+1=3 Art Installation

Ok, bare with me: I’m testing some new gallery function inside Wodrpress. If you “continue reading” this article (supposedly you are on the homepage), and jump inside thi article, you will see some small thumbnails below this first photo. Each thumbnail represents a photo from this art installation photo set. Now here is the cool part – by clicking each image, you will see this image in full size, but on its very own separate page! There you will be able to easily scroll to “next” and “previous” photo, till the end of the collection. Please test this for me, and report all your findings and errors you may experience. In the mean time I have updated all the video illusions, which may now be found inside this section. Additionally, I have started assigning categories to all my archived posts. This can be done very quickly in wordpress, so expect all posts to be categorized by the end of this week! I have few more ideas for the near future; like implementing pools, tests and all sort of goodies. Stay tuned! Now let’s explain today’s post which was submitted by Francois Buhagiar via email (thank you).

This year, the final-year students of Beckmans College of Design have created an art installation at the Stockholm furniture fair. The students have created a space where they wish to inspire informal gatherings of people, in the same way as you would meet spontaneously about town – sitting at the edge of a monument, on a front porch or a flight of stairs. The furniture in the showcase is based on an individual briefs, to create a specific type of furniture. In contrast to what is usually the case in the fair, where many prototypes are for view only, students have encouraged the visitors to interact with the furniture and the space. You can view this exhibit from different angles, by clicking on the gallery thumbnails below. Enjoy!

  1. Ahah, thats well good! just loadsa random crap when looked at from another angle :P eee! This is good i like it.

  2. Very cool and imaginative. Reminds us that perspective is everything. Website looks great, works fine.

  3. All is working fine for me. Great illusion btw. But couldn’t you change the reaction system back into the old system so that you can react anonymous without giving your e-mail adress?

  4. That is AWESOME! I might try doing that one day!

It makes me think that some things are very cool one way, but once you change perspective, it’s cluttered and unrecognizable.

  5. Very creative and fun illusion. The thumbnails worked great and I love this site!

  6. Wow, this is actually really cool. I didn’t think so from the main photo but the thumbs really amazed me.

One thing about the thumbs though, when loading each picture’s page, my browser had to load the entire page again. Not sure if this is something you can fix by altering your site or if it is just me. Anyway, i’m using Firefox, the latest version. I just think it would be easier if it was a dynamic gallery or something.

  7. This is really cool! Can you imagine all the time and effort that must have gone into this? I hope they got an A lol.

  8. Wow! It’s great, and well worth the tour of thumbnails too. The website just keeps getting better. I hope you’re doing a doctorate?

  9. I’m not sure everything is working quite as you had hoped. When I click on a thumbnail it doesn’t always bring up the correct pic. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you did say that you wanted feedback on the new format.

  10. Very cool illusion, only gets more interesting when you see the different angles!

thumbnails work good, slight downside is that they open in the same window, would be more convenient if they automatically open in a new window/tab so it is easier to return to the article. (I know, could do the right-mouse-button / open new tab trick but still..)

  11. I can’t see any photos anymore.

In this one I see six boxes that slightly expand when hovered over. I think this is the gallery. But i can’t see any photos in them and when I click nothing happens

    Mozilla Firefox

  12. Well done! The “page-to-page” concept works exceptionally. In addition, the illusion is pretty cool.

  13. woww it’s funny how no one has realized that 1+1 doesn’t actually equal 3. they’re all focused on the illusion :P

  14. this is so cool i can actually say something ok i just wanted to say hi and keep up the good wesite and keep the illusions coming have a great summer v. ciao nadia
