Small Heads Or Big Bodies?

Hehe, just stumbled upon this funny picture. I’m sure that all of you who attended elementary school understand this, since the illusion occurred because of simple physics. The water acts as a magnifying glass, it reflects, and also breaks light beams. If you didn’t knew this by now, you can learn it through our user posted comments in Bent Pencil illusion. Basically this illusion is almost identical to Small Heads article. Concerning the site, I’m optimizing it as we speak, so you may notice some small design changes in following hours. Nothing to worry about. I also updated the Escher Style section, so be sure to check it if all links work properly and then report your findings. I’ll probably post some more illusions today if I get time to do so. In the mean time browse through our galleries, since many of the posts have been edited and new illusions added. I just remembered this one. Like it very much!

  1. this is scarier then when Nicole Richie walked out of her house with no make-up on, did i ever say the Nicole Richie almost floated away when she wasn’t wearing her glasses.

  2. Well, it’s obviously a splicing of two pictures; dur. One from afar to capture the effect of the small heads, and the other as an underwater closeup to create the “illusion” of small heads having big bodies, and vise versa. Sometimes I wonder about this site…not so much of an illusion site as a site for cleverly spliced images.

  3. @kelsey

Are you kidding me? Have you ever heard of refraction? It’s one of those thing you learn about in 2nd Grade Science class…

  4. Why do people automatically assume images are edited it they don’t instantly explain themselves??

Kelsey, its one image. Its simply refraction. Look it up on Wiki!

  5. they are statues in the pool and the girls are standing behind them. the girl on the way left u can see her body behind it and the girl on the wy right her shoulders dont match up with it.

  6. this is aimed at the anonymous above madison – its refraction. anyone with half a brain could see that. The water refracts the light so it acts as a magnifying glass. think before you post. please

  7. Actually water does not act like a magnifying glass it acts like a shrinking ray. Put your thumb under the water, it looks shrunk. Point proven!

  8. yeah cristophers right cus when i have a bath, i put my hands next to the end of the tub and the water made my hands small like baby hands! that is your help. Farewell!!!

  9. this is sooooo fhotoshopped look at the chineese girl on the end her skin tone and shoulders tottaly dont match !!!!!

  10. this is a simple case of refraction. light passes from the denser medium to the lighter medium – which in this case should be from the glass to natural space. this makes what you see even larger like when you try to see the images through the glass. ordinarily, light should change direction.
