    1. The wheel itself is not really spinning. It just moves clockwise for half the distance between a spoke. The moving red and yellow dots are confusing you. Put your hand on half of the wheel and you’ll see what I mean.

  1. I’m guessing that every other frame shows the wheel itself in the same position, so one could say it’s moving clockwise just as much as counter-clockwise.

    1. I love how many comments there are after yours trying to; shall we say “debunk” this illusion.

Because you sussed it early :)

The wheel itself is flicking half the distance between the centres of the spokes on the wheel ,the direction is impossible to tell, it may have no direction at all and just be moving back and forward each frame. Try using your hands to narrow the view to only a section of the wheel where neither red or yellow dots are visible. The power of mind can make it appear that they move anti clockwise, clockwise, or just back and forward.

The dots however are not moving at half centres. They have a set direction because they flick 3-4 times to reach the position of the one that was just infront of it.

It’s not easy to explain, but focusing on the dots that actually have set direction make the wheel seem as though it has one.

  2. i like this one. as you focus on the yellow or red dots for a few seconds, they seem to change direction.

  3. they ARE going in opposite directions…lets say if the red dots are sumhow connected to the triangle thingy..follow one of the red dots with the trangle..notice how one moment a yellow dot’s on the triangle n the next its not there

  4. there are actually 2 wheels shown

if you follow one “peg” w/ red on top, the yellow in it alternates every other

  5. the red dots are rotating differently from the yellow dots, red are rotating counter-clockwise and the the yellow dots and on the wheel are rotating clockwise… what the hell, it’s just a gif file, that’s what it is… good though.

  6. Follow the red dots, then the yellow dots. Then quickly look to the “V2” in the middle and the whole wheel “explodes” (as in gets heaps bigger real quick). But only for a split second.

  7. the red ones are mving counter the yellow moving clockwise and the wheel is not moving not that hard you retards!

  8. oh, and i have an image viewer called well ‘preview’ that let’s you see movies frame by frame. Anyway it says it just four images repeated over and over again. looking at that I can see that the wheel spokes (or the brown lines) do move as well as the dots. I incourage all mac users to try looking at this!

  9. its not movin in any direction!
its 2 or 3 direrent pics changing.
the first pic has just a pic of the illusion the second has all the stokes inbetween the last ones, but when you put them together it looks like its spining

  10. actually, if you follow a stoke with a red dot outside it, youll notice that the yellow dot on that stoke flashes on and off!

  11. Actually, i think all of you are wrong. It might have something to do with this:
Ever watched the wheels on a car on TV?
As the car accelerates, the spokes on the wheel appear to move in the direction of travel. As the car carries on accelerating, it appears the spokes slow down, stop, and start rotating in the other direction!
While this maybe cos of frame rates, i believe the same effect is happening here, altho on a subliminal level…

  12. It’s all moving counter-clockwise.. it’s just that the yellow dots are moving faster than the red ones, i.e. they are moving over two or three “fans” at a time instead of just one like the red dots.

    I think that’s right..

  13. It’s not rotating nor clokcwise nor counterclockwise. It’s just changing its halfs in a place. In one moment one half, in next moment other half of the circle

  14. If you look closly at the wheel you’ll be able to tell that the red dots are just circling the wheel and that it is actully moving clockwise.

  15. The wheel is turning counterclockwise, but the yellow dots are turning clockwise. If you keep an eye on the red tots while at the same time on the yellow dots, every other frame the yellow dots are on the same spoke as the red dots.

  16. if u stare at the V2 for a few seconds it stops and changes direction. u can only look at one set of dots but in actual fact the dots are going the same way.
sorry for spoiling it for all u wierd people that got dizzy and thought that it was cool

  17. the wheel itself is not actually rotating, as every frame shows it in the same position. The dots are rotating in opposite directions. as u cannot focus on both of them at the same time u think everything (dots and wheel) is rotating anti-clockwise when u look at the red dots and clockwise when u look at the yellow. If u want confirm of what I’m saying save the gif and look at it with animation-shop or another similar software where u can see the single images that compose the gif.

  18. I think nothing is moving, just flashing different.
Make a test: use you’re mouse and move it clockwise around the circle (with your eyes you follow the mouse)
it will turn clockwise. Same vice versa! U can make it shake even =:o)
It works of course without the mouse also, just move you’re eyes slight in one ore the other direction and it’ll seam its moving that way.

  19. Just know the red dots move in bigger steps in the same direction as the yellow. When you view the yellow dots, our eyes see a small gap between the steps. When you follow the red dots, adjust your eyes to allow bigger steps (gaps) to anticipate the next red dot position. You can get both dots to move clockwise. Also note the yellow dots switch axis. First they align with red dots on a spoke and on next ‘step’ they don’t.

    1. Hey if you have a real keen eye iv seen stuff like this before the wheel actually changes on its own it is not your eye.It has paturns and makes you think the wheel is changing direction according to how you look at it but it is really changing its self also. Try just following one Leaf like you would on a fan then you might see what im talking about.

    1. The yellow dots are “jumping” from one blade to the next, they do not actually stay on the same blade like our eyes and brain believe.

  20. The red dots and the wheel are spinning counter-clockwise and the yellow dots are spinning clockwise.

  21. if you believe in your own thinking of where it turns, it follows where you want to rotate it.. just focus… ahaha…

  22. The yellow inner circle is turning one way while the outer red circle is turning the othe way, it is quite simple

  23. It’s simple! The yellows are turning clockwise while the reds are turning anticlockwise. And the line things are turning both ways, because they only have two animations; they can be either turning left or right.

  24. The wheel itself is actually moving back and forth. The red and yellow dots are both moving in oppostie directions. I realized this after I studied this illusion enough.

In conclusion red dots are going anti-clockwise, yellow dots are going clockwise, and the wheel has both any direction and no direction.

    Have a nice day :)
