Scary Optical Illusion Animation

Hey people! Be careful not to stare too long at the animation below, it can cause dizziness or possibly epileptic seizures. Don’t say I didn’t warn you :) It’s little scary as well. Look how that strange girl’s face appear to constantly and fluidly move to upper right corner of your screen, while in fact, the animation only loops forever. Because of black and white negative blinking, the face appears to move only in one direction (you don’t see it moving back, when the animation loops to its start). I have another great example of this! Check Christopher Walken optical illusion and Scary Spider illusion. They both give you the same effect. More can be found inside our Scary Optical Illusions category. Oh, I almost forgot our most recent one – it is called “Flying through city“.

  1. Maybe, I’m nto sure. IT looks like a girl from te face and the hair, but the chin does look boyish. BUt seriously, does it really matter?

  2. Pointless. The backround is the only thing moving. The pic is just flashing. To the B to O and the R and I and N and G, What does that spell? BORING!

  3. To the person who said that this boring, I am waiting for you to post a better illusion, until then don’t be so quick to judge.

  4. Which is the background and which is the image depends on what colour the DJ is – the neagtive space (white) and image (black) reverse when the colours switch, which has a fair bit to do with the illusion.

  5. The illusion looks like it’s moving because the text is moving. The text is probably google text results because you’re probably very familiar with seeing them scrolling, and thus you don’t think twice about them.

  6. It looks like it’s just an ad for some random website. It’s probably an ad by Google, which would be why there is something in the background. Disappointing

  7. “Epileptic seizures can sometimes be triggered by certain frequencies of flashing or flickering lights, or by certain geometric shapes or patterns.” epilepsynse.org.uk

“Migraine Triggers: … bright or flashing lights…” bupa.co.uk

Enough with the flashing lights already!

  8. If you click and drag the image it will freeze so you can get a better look at it. I definately think it’s a guy and the image is the white face with black hair. It is interesting how it keeps moving to the right though.

  9. Always interesting to see what people can do with this effect. While it’s not one of the better examples, it does demonstrate the sense of constant unidirectional movement quite well. Good use of the background text as well, 2 directions in 1 picture.

Another thing I found interesting… when a “good” illusion is posted, a dozen kiddies are all proclaiming “first post!!”, like seeing a “cool” blog entry before anyone else somehow makes them the better person. But when a not so good entry comes along, y’all are too busy bitching about it to even care if your first or not. I cast my vote for more not so good entries :)

  10. yeh, go u John; i agree. kl illusion, but as Vurdlak said, it does make u feel dizzy after a while!! lol

  11. Wateva u guys say, this illusion rocks. I love the effect, and i thought the guy/girl was moving at first glance. I dont like the text though, maybe there is a better way to do it?

  12. Epileptic seizures are triggered between 4-20 Hz, which this image may fall foul of… Other than that, it just looks like another annoying banner ad… Not good when you’re trying to work using other OS X widgets, makes you want to turn the offending one off!

  13. NEITHER the background or person is moving, THAT’S the illusion. If you don’t believe me, cover the picture except a small hole and watch it. Nothing is moving, just flashing.

  14. Okay – enough already. I have your gadget on my google homepage and it’s starting to give me headaches to have this flashing in my face every time I go to look at the new news!

  15. not what i want flashing when i open my dashboard. took the whole thing off, bad idea. i use my dashboard, and if things are flashing on it, i cant use it. just a thought.

  16. its a girl/boy it did not make any sense well from my point of view it was sooooo BORING!! yet creepy as the look was creepy

  17. Yeah its not even flashing… something must have gone wrong… I have seen these before though, and they are pretty cool (when they work)

And that guy looks VERY familiar…

where did this image come from???

  18. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I feel like such an idiot…

Thanks, anonymous no.41 at 3:39pm- i honestly never would have got that!

And I have decided this guy is NOT who I thought he was- the beard isnt long enough. (but yes, it’s a GUY)

  19. No, it is a girl. And that’s not hair on her chin, its a shadow..NOT hair..shadow..

And this is a little boring..just not feeling it.

  20. I think it’s funny that someone thought that only the background was moving and not the face. The face and the background are both doing the exact same thing! They are both flashing back and forth between two different positions, and they both appear to be moving constantly in one direction, but never actually do. Very effective illusion imo.

  21. THAT’S NOT AN ILLUSION!!!

It does move… check the .gif the different images move a little but they DO move…

There are 2 white images and 2 black ones, the first in white is in the center and the next one also white, moves up a little… same with the ones in black…

And what’s with the google search in the background

  22. what is the point of doing theese illusions if you cant even watch them i think that you need to fix your website so u can atually persuie what you are trying to advertise!!! thanks so much!

  23. by the way nothing in the picture is moving. It’s jutt changing colors. You can test this by puting ur finger righer under his eye… u will see that it stays in the same spot.

  24. according to me, the picture with white background looked much like a guy and the same image with the black background looked like a lady.
