Rotating Snake Illusion

This post was guest blogged by Vernon Southward of Macro Photography. If you would like to have your article appear on Mighty Optical Illusions as well, feel free to contact us.

When I was younger, the local churches would send these odd little optical illusions in with their propaganda; their way of saying, “You see Jesus everywhere, so deep down, you must be a Christian too. By the way, can you send us some cash?” Well, we never sent the money, but my brother and I would play with the little Jesus illusion card for hours. The idea was, if you stared at the negative type image for long enough, then closed your eyes, you’d see Jesus. My brother and I saw Jesus a lot, until my mom bought us a Nintendo.

This illusion is a little similar. The directions are, stare at the center for ten seconds, then gradually start to move your eyes around the outer perimeter of the circle. The image appears to move, preferably, according to the “experts”. In my opinion, it’s more like it’s squirming… The sensation is interesting; I always liked the illusions with directions like, “stare at it long enough and…” rather than seeking hidden objects. It’s more fun to find something that shouldn’t be there, by all accounts, but because of the mysteries of our eye’s biology, we found it!! This one is a like that. Enjoy, and let us know how it worked for you in the comments.

  1. neither, the dot is what you are looking at and it makes
the curves look like they are moving,DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. slightly cross your eyes(or if you know how…unfocus them a little) then move your head in and out to make it move circularly
just look and it should blink

  3. Nice illusion but theres no need in getting into the religions slagging, i for one am offended by the comments youve made as im sure many others are. Maybe the church situation is bad or not what it should be in your area but theres no need in publicising it and making everyone think thats what its like everywhere. Sorry for the rant i love your illusions :D

  4. The ‘lines’ seem to wobble. Also the rings tend to take on a 3D appearance. I love those jesus (or anyone else) illusions, they appear green for me, every time.

    Magalicious: Slagging?? Nae.

  5. Illusion is kinda cool, but what’s with all the negativity though? There was no need for that, I just added these daily illusions to my yahoo web page and I’ve been loving it, but that was really uncool, kinda makes me want to not use it anymore.

  6. huh??

well this should be more entertaining than that illusiun:

    …………I <3 cheese…………………..

    thank you! thank you!

  7. i soo saw that before trying to… didnt even have to move my eyes at ALL. 4 some reason it’s always like that with me and this kind of illusions… is it a gift?

  8. I see a red thing spinning around super fast behind the lines…….is it just me or is that the cause of y its moving -?
