Psychedelic Optical Illusion Collection

I’ve been gone for the past two days – occupied with a particular SEO investigation. I’m trying to figure out how domain brokerage works, and see if I could earn a dime along the way. Well, never mind my babbling, let’s better see what has been prepared for us today:

At some point in history I stopped writing about expanding/rotating type of illusions. There were just too many, and all of them were just a slight variation of Akiyoshi Kitaoka’s (psychology professor in Japan) original “Rotating Snakes” illusion. Well, in the meantime my mailbox got cluttered with those, so I decided to bring them up again. There were over 100 of examples, but I have hand-picked only the finest among them (strongest effect). Inside this article you may find six more “Psychedelic” optical illusions, and all of them seem to rotate, expand or shrink if you move your eyes around the picture. Remember, all of them are in fact static images – not animations! Did you like this post? Should I post more? Which example was your favorite? You can find few more dozen inside the animations category. You’ll probably notice that most of the time same colors occur.

  1. Yes, Yulia, they’d work printed, too… There actually ARE books full of illusions like this…

All apart from number one don’t seem to work for me, though… I know they should, but they don’t… I blame my bad eye-sight… Or maybe I should be more patient and stare at these for a longer time…

  2. They made my eyes freak out..except the one with the ladies..was that a respite from the others? Great illusions though..

  3. I don’t see a thing with the girl faces… but the rest is just great!!!

Yes, I think it should work, these are static images as he wrote, so it should work!
BTW sorry for my bad english :-)

  4. I think my favorite is the second one, but the last two ones are awesome too! These are also working if you print them, it’s just the pattern that gives the effect.

  5. the first and second are the most active for me. The girls didn’t do anything.
I like these illusions. Keep them coming!

  6. Animal Collective used a good one for their new album cover, go to google and look up Merriweather Post Paviliion under images. It’s impossible to not see it move when its big enough.

  7. I love this kind of illusion!!! I think some are more effective than others, but my question is: Do you have any more of these???

  8. If you let your eyes wander a bit, you’ll see a very subtle rotation in the girl pic. The question is, which way do they rotate for you? For me it’s counter-clockwise.

  9. it will definitely work printed, but it may still have to be in color i’m not 100% certain on that one(and if you did print in black and white would you mind posting if it still works or not please, thanks), and as posters, they rock!! i actually have Akiyoshi Kitaoka’s original one with a black background (and no snake tongues)

o and by the way the 5th (the one with the girls and hands) is suppose to rotate, start at the center and you should start to see it, and as with all of these, try to look at the rotation and it rotates more else were :P

  10. Most of them were really good! Except or the one with the girls, I dod see a little tiny bit of movment, but I was really looking for it too.

  11. Awesome images! I finally got the girl one to work, but it’s only a real slow counterclockwise spin. Interesting how some go clockwise, and others counter clockwise.
    Thanks!

  12. Woah these are good ones!

I don’t get what I’m supposed to see with the girls though, can someone tell me?
    Thanks

  13. I found that the one with the girls; they moved in a counter-clock wise roation. When you look at the girl on the top, the bottom half of the circle is moving. That’s what I found…! Great job with the illusions.

  14. The Girls one works for me, I actually really like it – a bit more subtle than the rest.

These actually work better if you keep your eyes moving around the picture instead of staring at one spot. The girls pic will work if you do that.

  15. hi, nice post.

tamira looks like u have good eye sight.

when ur eyes are strained/stressed only then cud u see them move tad bit fast.

  16. Hello,
Again, I think I really have a problem. I do not see any movement in these images. They are static to me.

  17. i think I liked the first one the best, iam not sure about the girls eyes changing or what the illousion is suposed to be.

  18. i have drunk some wine before coming to this site tonight and it seems alchol gives some imunity (probably lack of proper brain activity) to this kind of ilusions
