More Droste Effect Optical Illusions

Siddharth A Deshpande sent some more interesting illusions. Check the photos inside this article – It is well known technique, that occurred first time in famous cocoa packaging from Dutch Droste company. I blogged about it few times, and even posted few droste effect video clips. One of our readers also created Stillwater Reservoir with this technique, and we liked it so much, we have used it in our Optical Illusion of the Day Mac Widget icon.

Here is what the person who took the photos said: “The technique demonstrated here allows one to take very nice spherical panoramas without a pricey or bulky tripod and panoramic tripod head. The camera is kept very close to the body, and the lens is kept over a fixed spot on the ground – the tips of the shoes. The body rotates only once all the pictures in the visible area have been taken, it is imperative that you know how many pictures you need to take, so that you don’t look in your camera!”

I made a big progress updating Impossible objects section. It has potential to outgrow the biggest category on this site (outdoors cat)! Don’t get scared when you see it – just take your time, and check one illusion at time :) Which of the following photos you liked the most?

    1. my eyes hurt trying to follow the lines and just staring at this. but yea, it’s not the best illusion.

  1. ok what is the big deal about being the first person to comment? personally the table with kids one at the top is the best

  2. Although not technically an illusion, it’s impressive nonetheless. Definitely some impressive Photoshop magic going on here.

  3. I love the first one.

  4. Stop saying everything is done in photoshop without reading the intro. Just because you can’t think of a way to do it doesn’t mean it can’t be done.

  5. Thanks for telling me the term “droste effect”. It’s new to me and by some googling and tiny researches I found a gallery below.

that has some impressive droste effect pics. They should be done with GIMP with Mathmap plugin with “MM Escher-Droste code from Pisco Bandito and breic. (I haven’t looked into the exact details about how to make my own yet but surely going to do =] )

The flickr album owner actually has some other works inspired by MC Escher as well that you can find in this link:

or we should wonder: what can Escher actually do if he’s got a computer to work on?

  6. I hate when people think they are first or second because you NEVER are if your lucky you are and even if u are WHAT DOES IT MATTER.
