Math Test Optical Illusion

It’s Friday, Friday, got to get down on Friday! Okay, so I didn’t really mean to quote one of the worst songs of all time there. In case you didn’t know, that’s a Rebecca Black song and it’s been dubbed as being one of the worst songs of all time. Either way, I’m just excited, because it’s the weekend! I can already see the sun rising outside and it’s looking like it’s going to be a really good say so far! What are your plans for the weekend?

Today, I have a new optical illusion that is certainly going to mess with your minds. I can guarantee you that you’re going to love this one. One of my friends posted it up on Facebook and I have to say that this is one of the coolest optical illusions that I’ve ever seen. Are you ready to give it a go? If so, scroll down.

  1. Ok, I came out with a blue hammer. But the more astonishing thing is that when I took the test I was thinking in Italian, not in English, and I came up with a “martello” (a hammer) anyway!

  2. Whoa! That is scary! Usually I just poo poo these kind of “tests” off… but why would the math problems cause you to think of a red hammer?!?

  3. Well, I’m different. And not abnormal. (ha!)

    Red Wrench.

By the way, I would believe the claim that 98% of people come up with red hammer has a fair chance of being a bogus claim. Just because this says so, doesn’t make it a truthful claim. What are the chances a meaningful statistical study has really been done for a triviality like this test? There are a lot of tests like this around, and I’d question their percentage claims. Such claims seem likely to be mostly make believe, in my opinion.

  4. I don’t think it’s because of the test, if you just asked someone that question they would probably say red hammer as well.

  5. If you think in an other language you will be of the 2% people
I mean if English is for you a foreign language.

  6. I thought Green Hammer. My gf thought red hammer though. Why do so many choose red? And why a hammer?

  7. In reality, we only see red, gren and blue. All other colors are created by your brain interpretating the results of you seeing a mix of those colors. Green and blue cells in your eye are actually less sensitive than the red ones.

Red is the first color we named. If you have brain damage that temporarily makes you color blind, red is the first color you start seeing again.

Hammers are also the very first tool we created. It is the simplest thing – just basically a rock to hit things with.

This works by engaging your brain to get it moving then suddenly hits you with a surprise question. You grab the first, simplest thing that comes to you. Red hammer.

  8. Oh my gosh. When I was answering the last question, my eyes saw the ”QUICK, THINK OF A COLOR AND A TOOL!” Wrench popped into my mid, THEN red. I guess my mind is stranger than I thought. *Wink,*wink.*

  9. I stumbled in a similar test but in a video format from Youtube. Well, it was scary, like one reading my mind, since the image of a red hammer just popped over a dark background in the end.

  10. Blue hammer. Possibly because ‘colour’ is similar in sound to ‘hammer’ and ‘tool’ to ‘blue’? But then I am a bit of a phoneme->colour synaesthete.
