When I was a kid, I was a big fan of Metallica. On one of their first albums, there was a song titled “The Call of Ktulu”. I didn’t like that particular one so much, but the title was very powerful and stayed in my mind for very long time. Later I found out by accident, that the idea came from H.P. Lovecraft’s book, “The Shadow Over Innsmouth”, where the main chapter holds the same name. I wanted to share this little story with you, just to show how little I know of Lowecraft. Never the less, he is a very popular writer all over the world. One of his fans has sent me his poster that was exhibited in some sort of Expo. Can you see a hidden skull in it? Shouldn’t be to hard – looks somehow hypnotic, am I right? Check this vodka as well, that one looks almost the same!
nice!!
first comment ftw!
who cares who comments first????????????!!!!!!!!!!
wow people these days!
Skull… AWESOME.
btw second?
Huh, odd this should appear today – I saw the poster a while back, really liked it and hunted down the gallery it’s from online. I have one in the post to me now :)
Nice one, but I feel drunk now, watching the picture.
Is that normal???
yep ride the lightning is a great album, and that pic is awesome too!
The skull is nice but it doesn’t quite tie in to Lovecraft. HPL generally wrote about creatures or events that were supposed to be beyond human comprehension; compared to that a skull is a bit mundane.
Nice image, nevertheless.
Very Cool Skull!!!
I can live with your spelling mistakes, but to say that The Call of Cthulhu is a chapter of a book is a bit too ignorant for my standards. If I wrote for a website that thousands of people see every day I would spend a few minutes on wikipedia before talking about stuff I don’t know…sorry to be blunt but I see it as a lack of respect.
This needs to be on http://www.skulladay.blogspot.com/ too
this is very cool! it kinda reminds me of a sugar skull!
a.g. in da h.b.
I agree, the skull doesn’t really tie in to Lovecraft. Pretty cool anyway! I’ve read quite a bit of Lovecraft, and I didn’t find it to be anything special, though. His stories were written for pulp magazines, so the quality of the writing isn’t great!
Also, don’t you mean ‘Cthulhu’ rather than ‘Ktulu’?
Nice!
NMN
Ooh, spooky! It means you’re going to die.
HTH
Is it just me, or does it seem that everything else looks like.. I don’t know.. like when you look through a window while it’s raining really hard? – when you have been looking at the skull for a while ?
This is pretty cool
makes your eyes hurt tho
@ 11: No, the name of the Metallica song (which is what he’s talking about) is called “The Call Of Ktulu”.
Great pic, too!
Yes, it’s spelled Cthulu, Metallica spelled it wrong though, not this guy.
And The Call of Cthulu is a book. But calm down. I doubt HP’s spinnin in his grave.
IF YOU KEEP BLINKING WHILE LOOKING AT THE PICTURE, THE SKULL STARTS TO FADE AWAY OR SEEM LIKE IT’S EXPANDING
that really hurts the eyeballs! lol :D
WOW! GREAT SKULL KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh it is sort of weird kwl i like it
The Call of Cthulhu is a stand-alone-story, not part of a novel. The Shadow Over Innsmouth is a novelette, unless it was used as a title of a collection.
Yeah, I see a skull there, cool work =)
That is so cool!! Love it!
The Call of Ktulu is a great song by a great band. \m/
And I loved the illusion, I’d like to get that on my wall. ^.^
If you read the bigger words that are in french they say, “EXPO THAT CRAZY, H.P LOVECRAFT, AND THE BOOK BECAUSE” this really confused me.(the commas stad for every line) But the illusion was great!!
lol skull
sweetness awesum!!!!!!
A skull! btw im #30! who cares about #1?
