Cardiff Bay Baragge Illusion by Felice Verini

Just when I discovered this new Felice Varini’s ‘anamorphic illusion’ on Wooster Collective, reader called Steve submitted me the original BBC article about this optical illusion. Steve said it’s an art illusion done on a large scale, and added: “scroll through the photo set to see what I mean”. You have to find the exact spot in this Bay barrage to see the illusion perfectly, like in the first photo below. Other photos inside this article show you how this “art installation” looks like, when viewed from other places. As I said, the piece was done by the Swiss artist Felice Varini on the Cardiff Bay barrage, and ran between March 11 and 25th. I posted much more of Varini’s performances before. Many of them like 3D painted rooms, and buildings painted in circles can be found inside our “3D Sidewalk Art” category. Also, be sure to check the Wooster Collective, since it’s very similar in topic to our little community. I even asked them that we form some kind of partnership or link exchange. Will keep you informed!

  2. Felice Varini is a madman! I wonder how he accomplishes these huge pieces… maybe a laser beam projecting the image, then he runs around with a bucket of paint and a brush covering everywhere the laser hits?

  3. Very cool, i bet they used a big projector and did the outline durring the night. Or they just spent a whole lot more time than i would have. Reminds me of the work by Julian Beever. Look him up if you have the time.

  4. super cool illusion. i love seeing the illusions by people who spend hours on seemingly pointless things, like that guy who made a motorcycle shadow from kitchen cutlery.

  5. Can u shut up about the first comment things plz…Yur normally not first comment anyway..Its not even a comment, just saying yur the first. At least comment on the illusion

  6. yeh, really kl illusion! it must hav taken him ages to paint!

  13. I agree with everyone bashing the “First!!!11!!1one111!!!eleven!!11!!oneone!!1 ZOMG!” comments, but all of you need to learn how to spell! The other thing that makes me rip my hair out is bad grammar. Half of these comments I couldn’t even understand.

I liked how they painted a portion of the life-saver.
