Can You Believe These are Wall Paintings?

Opposite to our recent Hyper-Realistic Acrylic Body Paintings done by Alexa Meade, where she applied acrylic paints on her subjects in such a way to make them appear to be part of a painting, this time we have something completely opposite! Not much words needed, as the title says; can you force your mind to understand these aren’t real people, but wall paintings instead? Looking forward to hear your comments!

BTW, many thanks for your logo submissions (here). Some of them are really creative. I just hope we’ll receive many more ideas and examples, before we make the final decision. Another news is that now you can follow whats new behind this site on Twitter. Previously I used Twitter only to syndicate posts, but only now I realized how useful can the service be. For example, if our site goes down or has problems, I can update you there what’s been going on or similar! 1. WoOW, unbelievable! Just thought: Ya, of course the background was painted…but not the characters!! Awsome they really look so real, except the old manlast one).

  2. What the…. these are brilliant. I had to read the paragraph to find out what I was looking at. I was trying to find the illusion on the background of the pictures. Fantastic!

  3. Awesome, the detail is breath taking. I heard of things ‘jumping off of the page at you,’ but not the wall. Where are these and who is the painter?

  4. Woow!! I’m really impressed. I like painting too and I really think this artist has a lot of talent! For me the most difficult is the hair and in these pictures it’s perfectly real! Is possible to see more pictures of this artist??!!!

  5. These are truly spectacular. Realism of this quality is really quite rare in a painting. Please let us know the name of the artist.

  6. I truly believe this guy is the best artist I have ever seen. I cannot help but wonder though; why you didn’t tell us who he is…I’m assuming that is him painting in the 3rd picture; or is that an illusion too?

  11. When I first saw the illusion I though “Those people don’t blend in at all” then I went and read the post, and I couldn’t believe my eyes.

    Amazing illusion!

  14. Those are just amazing. And if I saw the first one without reading the intro I would’ve thought that was just a regular picture.

  15. WOW!!! What a great artist he/she must be. The artist must be having a nano knowledge/perception of light and colour. The paintings are really great. Why such artists should not get nobel or similar award!!!!!!!!

  16. Hah! I thought it meant that the background was a painting, and I was wondering what was so special about a person standing in front of a background! Then I realized that the people were the paintings!

  20. Incredible! Amazing! Could you imagine walking around just thinking ALL DAY long who you could paint on whatever wall? Mind blowing!

  21. these are awesome.
i’ve seen on a magazine paintings of one other guy that does this kind of work. i can’t remember his name but it was featured in a Juxtapose mag issue maybe in 2008 or 2009. some pretty great stuff there too

  22. yea I can say these pics are NOT real.
those are likes made with 3d Max or Maya or DirectX 10 rendered images. but in real it’s great. by manipulating your eyes well u can understand the truth.

  23. wow this is awesome i looked at the first one in the iGoogle gadget i was looking for the illusion in the background had no idea the person wasn’t real until i read the description

  24. The artist’s name is David Kassan. And it’s a real shame that the post was created without naming him even once!
All artists deserve credit, especially when their work is the subject of an entire page of his work, such as this.

    This is his website:
    http://davidkassan.com/

Now we know his name, and we can all say how cool David Kassan’s work is.

Just thought I’d solve the mystery by doing a little research.
    :)

  25. This is David Kassan – he teaches at the artist’s league in NY, and paints oil on canvas.

No, there is no 3D programming in his oil paintings.

(The idea is particularly amusing after watching him work.)

  26. wow!its very cool!i have the passion and a little talent in realistic painting but no formal education..i wish i have the same talent as David!he is really Great!!!

  27. Ahhh folks….herein lies the nature of the web…misinformation. The artists name is David Kassan. See. http://davidkassan.com/statement.php

Oil paintings on canvas that create an illusion of an outside space in the exhibition space ie. the gallery.

And no razor, they have not been created using 3d software….

  28. The Ultimate Truth…the Unknowable Truth or a Belief that such a “Real” truth Exists is not in play here. Can I believe these are not real (“true living people”) but Wall Paintings?” Certainly…especially if I was standing outside the gallery looking at them through a window. BUT I WASN’T! And so my perspective, my perception of the images…created for me by the photographs…fills me with the amazing sensation that I am looking a “true living people”. I think a better heading would have underscored the artist’s gift: “Can You Believe These People Are Real?” That heading would clearly indicate that the paintings are Not Real but would challenge me, at least, to articulate anything I could find that would lead to a statement like, “Of course they aren’t, and here’s how I know!”. THAT would be a very difficult field to hoe. JK
