Bombed Swastika in Google Earth Illusion

Hey guys (and gals)! If you remember, few months ago we posted mysterious Swastika building captured with Google Earth. Well, today I found an email in my mailbox (that by accident got caught in spam folder) from Miguel Valenzuela. This guy spotted something much more interesting browsing that location with Google Maps. The results he sent, shad a whole new light on the meaning of swastika building illusion. Can you also see two bomber airplanes and a bomb crater field? And when I remember we almost accused the poor architect of being a Nazi fan, while in fact he only wanted to create a monument symbolizing defeat of Germany’s evil regime.

This is what Miguel added: “I know this is old but I saw your posting after identifying it by myself on Google earth. If you look to the left you’ll see two other buildings that look like bombers. If you look to the right you’ll see a playing field that looks like bomb craters. Maybe it was set up as a visual illusion to show the symbolism of destroying Germany and just leaving craters. I guess you can do a lot with these things.”

P.S. From your comments, I understood you people dislike payed reviews, so I can give you my word there won’t be any un-targeted reviews from now on! We only posted them 3 of them in this fiscal year, but I have to listen what my audience says, so I promise no more unrelated article advertising from now on! Hurray! Hope you appreciate what I decided…

  1. It requires a lot of imagination to place a couple of “bombers” and “craters” in this picture. Come on!

  2. This is pretty cool. It would be interesting to find out some background on the architect.

BTW – I don’t think you should take a few negative comments about paid reviews as indicative of the general response – for something like that people are only generally likely to respond if they don’t like it. I had no problem with it – you make it pretty obvious that it is a paid review, and nobody is forcing us to read it! Although I would like to see more reviews of products more related to illusions – ie. graphical software or equipment? Maybe also reviews of books on illusions or drawing techniques.

  3. I’ve seen this nazi building long ago, but didn’t notice the bombers back then. It makes this famous google earth picture even more amazing. Not that impressed by the bomb craters though, just because they’re really small I guess. But eh, that’s still pretty cool.

  4. thats wierd…
oh well. Im doing something wierder.
I’m using my DS to post this, using my new
    Browser for it.

  5. Cool. 2 cool things. 1. Mighty Optical illusions is the second thing on Google under “optical illusions” now. 2. You can’t put comments on some of the posts from this weak.

  6. First of . . . Hoshit I see what the illusion is, and thats kinda creepy (me being from Germany and all . . . even though I do not approve of what the Nazi’s did . . . and never will)

Second, I think adding the add RIGHT under the post makes the Google thingy not work right, as this is the first illusion of the day I haven’t been able to see on my google page. Just thought I’d let ya know.

  7. This is an old google earth image, i already saw it a year ago. Anyway i wonder who would build a biuldind like that? Is it in America?

  8. This is cool…I didn’t see the bombers at first, but after I knew what they were supposed to be (duh) I could tell.

  9. hmmm, Not so much an illusion, but a building shaped like a swastika. Thats not an illusion. Oh, and about your paid adverising bit, at least you tried, but I really don’t see why people are knocking it. There is advertising plastered all over this website, doesnt anyone complain about that? Whats the difference if it is in google ads, advertising buttons, or posted in a blog. I suppose you maintain this site, so why aren’t you allowed to take in all of it’s glory. If you were not here, we whould not have such fine illusions…Aside from the building shaped like a swastika! So, this time, I am on your side.

  10. I don’t get it……. I don’t see anything all too great… I think this shouldn’t of been posted.

  11. Mabey thebuildings are like that on accident, mabey it was just a coincidence. Ever think about that???

  12. this is seriously rubbish
r u guys joking me or wot
i dont understand wot the point in this is
go to the DICTIONARY and look up the word ILLUSION

  13. maybe u shud call this site mighty crappy pics that are not in the slightest bit illusions
    becus thats what it is.

  14. Before the Nazis perverted the Svastika symbol, it was (is) an auspicious Sanskrit symbol. The meaning is the seat of the soul or an abode for the individual divine. I think we need to take back the symbol’s original meaning.

  15. Thats cool! If you look to the left of the playing field, it looks like those buildings are the simbol of the axis.

  16. the swastik sign actually means good luck or something.

if you ask me, we don’t need to stop using it just because hitler used it. it’s like not using smiley face anymore because some dud you don’t like smiled once. that’s my opinion.

    by the way, great site!

  17. Hey, I just had a thought – your google and other websites that admit this kind of content of your personalised homepage (or whatever) – to my knowledge isn’t that iillegal in Germany? And parts of Europe? Are you trying to get your German fans into trouble? (I’m not complaining – I’m just curious to know what you think!)…

Its just that some people might think Google and Illusions are endorsing the symbol…

  18. Thats the same place as in the other mysterious swastika building, you can see the craters in the field and the corner of the bomber buildings.

  19. To all you people asking where it is…. DUH – the coords are written in the bottom left corner.

    32 40’33 N 117 09’28 W

Do you people ever actually look at the pics?

Oh, and please try to keep this site to illusions. We already have googlesightseeing.com for this kind of thing.

  20. This is an odd building, but to add to the strangeness, its in san diego bay in the US Naval Amphibious base named Coronado. Its supposed to just be an oversight.

  21. being jewish, it offends me that people are booing this illusion. i personally think it’s an awesome memorial to build, because it symbolizes the defeat.

people need to be careful about what they say on here, cause it can end up hurting others.

  22. Did anyone else actually look this up on Google Earth? I did, and from looking at the surrounding area it appears to be a millitary base in San Diego Bay

  23. I don’t know why everyone is getting so mad about this not being first because who cares? its a real cool picture and second because it is an illusion, its some building that look like bomber planes and a swastika.

  24. those craters are only basaball yards and the smallest are irragation’s devices tracks

  25. Okay,
It looks weird. But hey..if you look to the left of the “craters” there is a building that looks like that thing. The umm, whats it called? The naughtsi err, somwthing like that. I AM JUST A KID. I don’t know what it’s called. xD

  26. there is also 1 here in Decatur Alabama..at a retirement home…i live by it..and mi mom works there..just type in Decatur Alabama swastika..and u can find!

  27. Oh look! Maybe he was a tetris fanatic too because I see a couple tetris pieces. I mean c’mon! I added this site to my igoogle, but due to lame things like this THAT AREN’T OPTICAL ILLUSIONS, I’m pretty sure I’m taking it off.

  28. Its unfortunate that the swastikas place in history has been forever tarnished by the events of over 60 years ago. the swastika is thousands of years old and is found in almost every culture and still revered by many today. The story goes that Hitler adopted what was a good luck symbol after been wounded during WW1, he was blinded by gas and while recovering in an old castle he heard of the german surrender and when the bandages were removed from his eyes, the first thing he saw was a old carved swastika and he took that was being some sort of sign. the rest is history. suggest reading the wikipedia article on the swastika.

  29. If you look to the bottom, or south of the Swastika you can see what appears to be a hand held up as it is a Heil Hitler salute with the thumb being the first finger right close to the building.

  30. i wonder if they ment to build it like that yeah i think they did 4 the idiots that dont see it nazis signs

  31. I actually used to live in that complex when I was in SBU-12 in the Navy. It is actually 4 barracks buildings with a small courtyard in the middle.

  32. No Big Deal. That’s four “L’s”.

Plus the “swastika” symbol is very old and easy to think of or draw. Anyway it was taken and used for that hateful evil campaign of WWII.

  33. wow, i never thot of it this way, i always thot it was just sum crazy person (people) who built a building that looked like a nazi swastika, or it was just a coincidence?? lol XD sometimes i am hopelessly ignorant XD but i LUV the meaning of the bombers and craters and stuff :D

  34. There is a building just like this in my Home town , Decatur Alabama zip 35603 , its an assisted living community .
