3 Ebbinghaus Optical Illusions

Boy, do we (me and my gf) have luck! We have found two options to rent a flat in the exact same building we need to move out from. Today we are going to check the second apartment, and if we like it we will easily move our stuff out of the current, and into the new one. Should take no time. I will keep you informed! About the illusion, you can see a classic example of the Ebbinghaus illusion on your left, and more pictures inside this article. The two food arrangements are exactly the same size; however, the one on the left seems smaller. This is due to plates that are different in size.

The Ebbinghaus illusion is an optical illusion of relative size perception. In the best-known version of the illusion, two circles of identical size are placed near to each other and one is surrounded by larger circles while the other is surrounded by smaller circles. The first central circle then appears smaller than the second central circle. This effect was named for its discoverer, the German psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus who lived in 19th century.

  1. This ironically have so much to do with what you are going through. Ok think about it. Yesterday you were all scared because you had no place to live right? But today things seem better because you may actually have a place to live. Does that make sense?

It just means that you have to see the glass as half full.

  2. I agree with Strawberry… maybe the other apartment is better! But I would still be freaked out if that happened to me haha

  3. The circles are NOTthe same size if you have a mac drag the image over the other circle and you will see that the right circle in fact IS BIGGER than the one on the left ;)

  4. The 3D one looks great, I guess you could also say that the reflection makes the surface look bumpy instead of round as well?

I’m glad you found somewhere to live too :)

  5. The food example is slightly smaller but the circles do a better job at the illusion!

Grats on the flat hunting, hope it’s thumbs up!

  6. If you look in the middle of the two pictures then it helps you see that the middle circles/objects are the same size

  7. To whoever said they’re not the same size… Do it more carefully. Also, the dragging has nothing to do with a mac ;)

  8. I really like this illusion… the plates I can see and understand, however, the others really do look different in size! Amazing at how our perception is!

  9. The plates with food are very nice. Studies revealed that a person with a bigger plate eats more than one with a smaller plate.

    first btw :-)

you are so wrong! When you drag an image on a mac the image you drag gets smaller. So if you drag the circle on the right onto the left circle, the left circle will look bigger, and vise versa. You have to try both ways, and realize that its not the circles, but the picture that gets smaller when you try to drag it!

Next time make sure you know all your facts before making stupid comments,
