  1. Ha I think I know now how it works! It’s just cardboard phtographed in an angle that makes it look as tall as a real building…He he, I feel smart now

  2. I think it’s real. the part that looks 2D, if you’ll notice, has windows that protrude, which may be similar to sunrooms. The live-in part of the building is 3D but the width is hidden by the “2D” portion. See it?

  3. come on people… this is a triangle design building. It’s a common design in architecture to give the illusion that it is a flat surface with no depth. If seen from a bird’s eye view it looks like a triangle.

  4. its a building with a falsefront to make it look larger, lots of buildings used to have that, it was an aesthetics thing

  5. its a stair of walls… triangle shaped… look at the picture closely, there are 3 different walls going in different levels.

The very bottom one to the left is the lowest wall in the picture

the wall to the very left is another level higher than the lowest wall

and then probably more walls behind etc.

  6. Omg, this isn’t cardboard or a film set! The other 2D building is in Niagara Falls, I’ve been there myself. I am still yet to find this one, but the building is shaped like a triangle, so that the opposite wall cannot be seen! /Jeez, don’t jump to conclusions. And no, it’s not photoshopped.

  7. You can get this effect when shooting with a super-wide angle lens. The right-angle corner “distorts” into an acute angle, and gives the flat front effect. I noticed this when I got an 18 mm lens for my camera.

  8. oh, ive seen this building, its in san antonio, texas. if you take the riverwalk boat tour the tour guide will tell you, “this building is a live optical illusion” it is a triangular building, and when looked at from a few choice angles, it looks 2-D, its really vool

  9. Isn’t this a film set prop? That would totally make sense. Not so weird, after all. Though… I’ve never known them to actually BUILD the bottom part. Or maybe the action’s all there, but why pay to build the unnecessary top?

    Sorry, rambling. I’ll stop now.

  10. The tall building isn’t really flat; it’s just triangular. At the angle the camera is at makes it appear flat because you can’t see the side wall.

  11. We also saw this in San Antonio earlier this year, you have to be in just the right place to get this effect, but it really is quite wonderful to see.
