Designer Marc Böttler used stacked wooden blocks and combined them with tricky camera angles to turn children’s playthings into a cool set of optical illusions. He calls it his Klotz Type Experiment. Because they only form letters when viewed from certain direction, it might be one of the first official anamorphic alphabets that could be used on a computer. I think it would be really cool if he were able to turn these into an official optical illusion font, even if the full 3D anamorphic effect can be seen in person only.

I’ve never been very good at wooden block architecture, so I never really made anything all that impressive with the toys when I was younger. They do seem like a good, albeit underutilized, medium for art projects. Have any of you ever made cool stuff with wooden blocks?

Wilson Hennessy is a still life photographer based in London. For today’s feature I decided to showcase one of his recent works done with some help of a modern technology. It is more than obvious this picture was finished using some sort of digital photo editing tools, but what is even more important (with these types of illusions) is the outcome and the puzzling effect author manages to achieve. Observing the wooden beam in below photo, one must ask himself where is the breaking point that makes the second beam vanish? I believe in this case, the transition was achieved magnificently!

I’m not particularly inspired today, thus you shall receive this short question and a belonging optical illusion that goes in companionship with it. I can guarantee you that the picture below wasn’t manipulated with, and that the object you see can truly exist in real life. Only question that jumps out, is how? It may take you some time before you understand the logic behind this “impossible” wooden object, but after seeing all of our previous examples you should be an expert by now in solving something like this. Does it have something to do with special materials? Or is the secret in angle under which the photo has been shot? This is for me to know, and for you to find out ;)
