Originally designed by Cuatro Cuatros, the product is based on a heavily familiar drawing of an impossible triangle, converted into a geometrical shape with volume. We’ve featured over a dozen such triangles in our impossible objects section, yet and the only problem with this vase -is that it only works when seen from one certain angle.

Depending on the point of view, both ends coincide and make it look like a closed figure. The interposition, orientation and perspective create a contradiction of the space that makes us perceive something that is not. This way, the vase becomes more than just a functional object, turning into a decorative piece that plays with perception. You can place it anywhere inside your home, as its clean, simple shape can pleasantly interfere with both a modern and traditional decor. Just put some water inside the crazy triangle vase and watch how the flower blooms in the company of an awesome optical illusion!

Just came back from Paris yesterday evening. Can’t say I enjoyed much. Apart from marvelous architecture and breath-taking historic sights and museums, it felt like any other European metropolis. Perhaps I expected too much, thus was little bit disappointed. I enjoyed seeing Napoleon’s resting place at Les Invalides, and Louvre museum the most. There were so much tourists, I couldn’t stop feeling like one. Perhaps if I had some local friends, they could help me experience local life (and point me where I could eat some good food), ultimately making the trip much more interesting…

Sorry for such a long intro, just wanted to inform you I’m back now (and how last few posts were set to automatically appear each day, and were written few days ago ;). It’s also why it took so much time to get your comments approved. Now that I have charged my batteries once again, let me roll up my sleeves and continue sharing some good stuff! For today I bring you two posters that feature Missing Pieces illusion we featured some time ago. Seems that Chupa-Chups company jumped the optical illusion billboard wagon as well!

There’s a new optical illusion in town, and its name is “Bourdon Illusion“. The Bourdon illusion is the apparent “bentness” of the straight edge of a figure consisting of two elongated triangles arranged apex to apex.

Like you see in the image on your left, the upper side of the left-lower triangle is actually aligned with the upper side of the right-upper triangle, the former appears to tilt counterclockwise while the latter clockwise. What we are seeing here is “seemingly bent” type of illusion. But why?

Further, I’ve added three rather subtle illusions, each showing bent lines. In Bourdon’s illusion, to the left, the straight left hand edge looks bent again. In Humphrey’s figure, (central object), the straight, loose line touching the corner of the cube looks bent. In the figure to the right, the straight line interrupted by the corner looks bent.

I don’t think we really understand any of these illusions, and since they are not very dramatic, you don’t notice them very often. There’s probably a different explanation for each. For example, both the left and middle figures show a bent line that is the backbone of two triangles meeting at a point, so you might think “Hello, we’re getting somewhere”. But then you notice that the lines bend in different directions relative to the triangles inside each illusion.

Hmm, apparently you weren’t as enthusiastic as I was concerning my previous post. I don’t see why, but I’m an individual, and you are the deciding jury. Those rating stars keep me informed about your likes and dislikes, handy – ayeh? Probably you won’t adore this one neither, but let me tell you that if you stop for second, and think this through the illusion you see today isn’t so bad. It’s obvious, those kiwis are sliced in a way to show a ghost triangle. Our brain is trained to automatically recognize simple objects such as: spheres, triangles and similar. This is why you aren’t really surprised when your brain recognizes the missing triangle. Well, if the brain wasn’t so developed all we would see is 3 slices of kiwi, and some missing parts on them. Think about it. BTW, I’m thrilled that more and more logo pictures appear in our comment section. Also, I found an awesome “adultish” optical illusion for tomorrow… something simmilar to this. Stay tuned!

Hope you guys don’t have much problems with it, while living your every day life. It was very educational to find out this disability mainly occurs among male audiences. In the mean time, I found some additional impossible triangles, consisted of dice and Lego. Since we already featured both of them (similar examples), I couldn’t decide should I post these very similar ones as well. In my opinion they are both visually very nice, and it would be a shame if they got unnoticed, so I gave it a shot. By now, you should have no problem understanding how these were constructed, and hope you are aware they can be created in real life too, without using Adobe Photoshop or any similar CGI programs.
