Still, good illusions are always welcome. It doesn’t matter if they closely resemble some we’ve already seen before!

For example, look what Deviant artist megaossa has managed to come up with! Most interesting part is how I discovered his illusion gallery accidentally, thanks to our Facebook channel.

When I recently started promoting our FB page, I have secretly hoped for a critical mass, where at some point, good illusions and great talent would spontaneously find their way and reach us! Could it be that we have reached that point?

But let us return back on the topic. If I asked you, would you be able to spot all of the illusions in megaossa’s portfolio? For example, are you able to see the baby inside the below photo? Do you find this real-life version or the original Baby Tree Illusion better?

Gonzalez of io9.com concluded there isn’t a person in this world who doesn’t love tree rings. This in itself should be reason enough to appreciate this beautiful poster created by Gary, Aaron & Khairul (degree°).

But there is much more to it than meets the eye – if look at the poster from up-close you’ll find an entirely new reason to love it! Originally titled Tree of Life, this unique poster aims to highlight the responsibility we have in letting animal species thrive in their natural environment. As authors have said themselves: “We have a choice whether or not to preserve nature and let it grow. Specially designed to assert this crucial message, it forms the basis of social attitudes towards Mother Nature for the many people out there who want to make a difference in our world..”

The lives of animals revolve around their living space, the rainforest. And since animals are not able to speak for themselves, the destruction of their habitat leaves them suffering in silence.

It’s an organization which protects endangered wildlife and environments, tackles climate change and promotes sustainable use of resources. But what WWF also does, it creates one hell of a memorable billboard campaigns. To raise awareness around their cause, they need their message to stand out and differentiate itself from the rest. And what could be better to promote this worthy cause than using a poster with built in game, one that traps you into the world of rainforest wildlife? Not only have I learned one interesting fact today – that rainforests only cover 7% of our planet but harbor more than 50% of the world’s species – I’ve also learned there is pile of hidden animals present in this poster below. Open the picture in full-size (by clicking on it) and see how many hidden animals you can find. Let the games begin!

There is this website that specializes in daily T-Shirt deals. Each day one perspective artist is featured, whose design is then put into spotlight. The site I’m talking about is called woot.com, and more often than not I was refereed to it by our loyal illusion-submitting fans.

Recently, artist who goes under the name of bassanimation got his design put into center of attention. Titled “National Pride”, the soft-colored motive depicts a mighty tree standing still in the middle of nowhere. But there is so much more to it than meets the eye! Try and see which animal might be hidden somewhere inside this pic.

I understand this illusion is easier to see than not, yet it somehow reminded me of Chow Hon Lam’s “Feng-shui Dragon” and this is why I chose to share it.

Today I’m gonna show you an illusion, I only recently managed to “decode”. Titled Romeo and Juliet, this marvelous painting (created by Octavio Ocampo) managed to fool me for quite some time. What at first appears as profile of both Romeo and Juliet about to kiss, also depicts this famous couple in their early years.

Did you know that Octavio Ocampo is one of Mexico’s most prolific artists? I’m not sure we ever talked about him in details, yet I feel it’s important to know he is very well known for his evocative paintings in which detailed images are intricately woven together to create larger images. This is what Octavio Ocampo terms as metamorphic style. By now you should already be able to recognize illusions we featured, which were done by Ocampo. I’ve added the cropped thumbnail just so that you don’t miss the “hidden” details in this one. The rare full-size original may be seen below.

Now that we covered the important part, let me share some important news. As you see I’m doing some major improvements on this site lately. Unfortunately, not always do things go smooth. Luckily, Jill is helping me with the content so I’m given more time to concentrate on the technical part. Before I can proceed with more upgrades, I need you to help me by answering these few (short) questions:

I believe the “random illusion” button is finally fixed. Is it working correctly for you? Does it bring you to a new random illusion each time you click it?

Some of our users have reported annoying pop-up ads. As I never allowed those, I think I have identified and disabled them. Do you still encounter misbehaving or ugly adds? Please send me some screenshots at vurdlak@gmail.com if yes, so I can investigate further!

One of our visitors reported he has been redirected to some spammy “Mac Defender” website. Has this happened to you in the past day or two?

Few days ago, there has been caching technology implemented to our site. Do you see any improvement in speed when you open this site? Is there something you still find buggy?

What is the main thing you dislike on moillusions.com, something that makes you not want to visit this site again?

So, I’ve noticed you weren’t that excited with some of our latest posts. It’s either that I’ve spoiled you over time with some of our better submissions, or maybe I have lost the connection with good ol’ old-school stuff. You have to realize though, it’s hard to keep everyone happy at the same time. While there are heaps of regular visitors that come here for years, I sometimes forget how significant amount of you represent new-comers. Even though there are bunch of superb optical illusion pictures just sitting on my desktop, sometimes I feel they’re too similar to something we have already posted before. Then I prolong their publishing date, and more often then not – completely forget about them. Anyway, be sure to tell me what you think… Do you mind some of the effects being repeated in somewhat similar photos, or should I strive to bring more diverse stuff? Btw, check out what user named Culpeo created:

Just when you get to think there are no more major league illusions left to feature, another wave of magnificent works gets re-submitted by our loyal fans – I thank you for that! Btw, many of you asked how illusion submission works in the first place? I thought the footer (email) link “Submit Illusion” was obvious enough, but your input suggests I should bring more attention to it… Let me see if I can come with some sort of submission form in the following days…

Regarding the painting, it’s another creation by famous Octavio Ocampo. Observe it closely. How long does it take before you notice additional persons present? Don’t stop before you found all four of them! Perhaps there more, let’s see how many of them have you identified?

Those of you getting first impression on our new optical illusions via “Optical Illusion of The Day” widget will have a heads-up seeing the illusion here. The rest will probably see nothing out of ordinary at first. But if you move your head away from the monitor, or squint your eyes slightly, I promise the squirrels and their tree-playground will present you with a whole new meaning eventually!

Tried to publish a sample post via my new iPad today, but decided against it when I learned it’s too complicated. WordPress app works fine, yet Photoshop for iPad lacks image resizing tool. Shouldn’t this be the most used part of the program?! Anyway, let me show you some new stuff from Fred Eerdekens. Remember, he was the guy that wrote those funny letters on walls, using nothing but bent wire and light source to cast shadows. This one’s very similar, only wires have been replaced by specially trimmed trees! Can you see the illusion by yourself? What does it say? BTW, fun fact of the day: I bought my self a bonsai tree few days ago; but what I wasn’t aware is that “bonsai” is just a term for practice of keeping trees small? Were you aware of this? It appears you can trim almost any young tree and make it bonsai… Ie. small oak can be bonsai, just as small cherry tree can be bonsai too!

Not much to be sincere… I’ve added some new illusions to our Facebook group (you can join our group via the badge located in the sidebar), but what has really been occupying me lately is my diploma white paper. I’m writing about Web Analytics, and feel pretty much stuck deciding towards which direction to head next. If you have any material on the subject, or know some experts in this field be sure to drop me a line!

Anyway, not to distract you from our newest illusion, let’s see what Wyatt Crouse sent in the other day. What you see on your right is the cover of Ray Bradbury’s book The Halloween Tree. If you have trouble seeing the illusion, try squinting your eyes!

In a Photoshop contest, held 2 weeks ago (where main topic involved optical illusions), there was an interesting submission I almost overlooked. As you can see, Justin manipulated the below photo in such a way, that there is a girl’s face hidden somewhere inside of it. Don’t let the Moebius strip drive your attention a way, it’s more about the branches. I had some trouble seeing the illusion at first, mostly because I was heavily influenced by our widget’s logo (it uses the illusion in pretty similar way). There was also an illusion where you had to spot the baby hidden inside the tree branches. So I thought Justin just had modernized one of these two. If you also have trouble spotting the illusion, use the expandable solution below the picture. Btw, how you like those expandable solutions I started adding lately?

If you don’t spot this one immediately, you can’t consider yourself an optical illusion expert :D I don’t know if this thing was made for fun, or the poster was actually used as an advertisement for this product (check the link only after you’ve spot the hidden object). The style author used, greatly reminds me of the Digital Swimming Pool illusion.

While we’re still discussing dimensions, there’s an interesting artwork discovered by Chelle and Pedro Rato (thanks for notifying me guys)! Would you believe me if I told you, that this custom-made backyard deck is actually flat as it can be? That’s right, the shown garden deck was specially designed for one of the Apple’s execs, art collector Jeff Dauber. It was built for him by Berkeley-based architect Thom Faulders. Btw, it doesn’t stop there – Faulders designed the exec’s whole house. I haven’t seen it, but I bet it looks awesome! More pictures after the break…

As hard as it may seem to believe, this garden is actually flat!

Jeff Dauber’s backyard deck will not (despite initial impression) suck you into some wormhole, and then throw you back in time. Thom Flauders, designed the piece to create an optical illusion of curves where there are only flat surfaces. Here are some quotes from Dauber:

I wanted someone to barf when they look at it. The deck looks like it is sloping away from you.” – Jeff

I don’t feel much inspired for writing today, better yet – last few days I was completely hit by writers block. Above all this, my keypad stopped responding when I enter “space” tab. I think there is some kind of food element stuck beneath it, but who knows. So after I wrote this article, I needed to copy-paste each “space” line between words and construction elements. Think about it for a second! How much of unnecessary work am I talking here.

But I’m not gonna allow such a trivial problem stand between me and this blog. No way! I already purchased Dell’s wireless keyboard, and hopefully it will arrive tomorrow. Check the photo I linked, and please give me some feedback if you’ve had the opportunity to use it by any chance. I just hope I didn’t make the wrong decision, based only on viewing a single photo of it.

Not to bore you with my personal “problems”, I chose this simple picture (you see on your left) for today. I think the illusion is very simple to see, but the idea behind is very nice if you ask me. Hopefully you skipped reading the title, the descriptive tags beneath, and will solve the optical illusions yourselves. What are the tree branches hiding?

You can find some related optical illusions here, here and here. Enjoy!

If there is any particular topic I receive record number of submissions for (more than cloud formations) – it would be “Jesus”. It appears people see Jesus everywhere. But if you think our savior returned by burning himself into your toast, that doesn’t automatically qualify it as regular optical illusion.

Still, some of these submissions DO qualify for Mighty Optical Illusions‘ “picture of the day”. For example, I have included three of them into this post. The third illusion is somehow unsafe (so I included it as link only). It still makes a nice resemblance, though. If you’re easily offended, please don’t click this link. The second one can be seen on your right. I like how the author made every part of the painting have double function; ie. “Big Jesus’s” eye can also represent a cloth hanging from the cross, torso of the Jesus on the cross may be seen as a nose of the Big Jesus as well, etc… Only thing I’m not really sure about is the left mustache of the Big Jesus. What does it represent on the small Jesus? Please help me.

Another interesting photo was submitted by Stals. He wrote the full background, so let’s give him opportunity him explain it: “First off Let me give you a little background about this image. I live in Northeast Philadelphia. My mom’s house is on the 4100 block of Hellerman Street in the Mayfair section. When I was 13 years old, a local phenomenon happened! Two blocks from my house a tree had been recently trimmed by city workers to get the branches away from the telephone wires and other wires in the area. One night someone noticed that as the streetlight came on you could see a clear image of Jesus hanging from the cross! It isn’t there any more unfortunately. The sight brought people from all over the world and blocked off the block. The local people on the block decided it was best to have the tree trimmed again to eliminate the illusion. This was Sterling streets claim to fame. They even made headlines on MTV news! That was pretty exciting to a 13 year old. What do you guys think? There were thousands of pictures sold and thousands upon thousands came to see it. It’s a shame that it’s all but forgotten now.”
