Gregor Wosik’s Otherworldly Art

By now, I think it’s safe to say that most of you prefer when we feature realistic chalk drawing illusions. Below you may see a collection of otherworldly images that trick the eye. Author is #Gregor Wosik, a street artist from Poland. Although he is not as well known as #Julian Beever, #Kurt Wenner or #Edgar Mueller, his quality work is quickly earning him an admirable reputation! If my memory serves me well, he was the one who created those Jack Daniels anamorphic drawings. While the pictures work form a specific angle, they look distorted from every other angle. Whether the art pieces are composed of natural scenery or fantasy, they are always quite a sight to see! Some of Gregor Wosik’s works can be seen below, and more inside the attached gallery…

Mannheim Street Art

Ellen K. Smith found an interesting outdoor illusion painted on the barred-fence located somewhere in the streets of Mannheim. After sharing her find, I did some research and figured out that the artist behind this “constructive vandalism” goes under the name of ZebraThing. I’ve inserted additional gallery where you may find more of his work, as well as some shots of the same installation shot from a different angle. And if all this isn’t enough, be sure to check Zebra’s fb page where he exampled another dozen of similar works. If you remember we had something similar already showcased on our site before. Enjoy!

Common Sense Crossing

Erik Johansson… Hm, now why does this name sound so familiar? Let’s see if our post tags can be of assistance in situation like this one… I knew it! If you check the #Erik Johansson tag, you may discover he had created that marvelous chalk drawing in Stockholm’s square, one we featured not so long ago. Well, if you think about it for a second, nothing prevents an artist to establish himself in more than one area! As you can see in the attached photo, Erik does wonders with photo manipulation too! Titled “Common Sense Crossing“, this work’s transition from normal to upside-down view was done incredibly smooth. It greatly reminds me of Michael Kai’s “This Side Up” gallery, agree? Levitating Street Performer

Kudos to Marcin Ciślak from Krakow for discovering this amusing street performer, and taking a photo of him and then sharing it with our community! After some debate, we’ve concluded how these guys manage to fool us with impression they’re able to levitate. It all started with Johan Lorbeer and Flying Yogi. Remember those guys? Most of you probably missed them, as we blogged about the trick long time ago. So, let’s repeat our findings. How does the trick, this guy in below performs, actually works? It’s obvious he couldn’t support his own weight just by leaning on the vertical pole, right?

Here’s a quick update, just to refresh that annoying animation that appears in your widgets. You’re probably right, in the future if we ever post similar stuff, I’ll use a static image for all your Optical Illusion of The Day widgets. The photo you see below belongs to Edgar Muller’s pavement art. I know we had that particular Lava Cave installation already, but is it only me, or does this one appear even more realistic? Has Edgar “updated” his drawing? Was the photographer more professional this time? Any clue whatsoever?

Mysterious Caves II

As we reported back in Feb, scientists have been baffled by the appearance of a mysterious cave at West India Quay, London. Now the same phenomena has been spotted in Geldren, Germany. Moving away from fiction, stepping back to reality, what you see below is 3d chalk drawing created by Edgar Mueller for the International Street Painting Competition in Geldern 2009. Google Street View Illusion

Apart from playing with design, I’m obsessed with new internet trends and emerging technologies. As much as I love sharing original illusions with you, I’m even more thrilled when I get the opportunity to introduce you with something you probably never thought of using when searching for optical illusions. Hope you approve my style, where I try to fuse our illusion topic as much as I can with modern options.

I think it’s refreshing to see our standard content, using different approach occasionally. Our friend, João Marques took his time to introduce us to Google Street View. By now, all of you used Google Maps at some point of your life. Well, at some major cities Google’s mobile crew took high res photos of surrounding areas, while cruising down the local streets. This caused a lot of controversy, as sometimes citizen privacy was invaded, but on the other hand – it helped cops catch crooks in Netherlands.

João has been a daily follower of MOI for some months, and decided to give something back. Before presenting us with the illusion, he thanked us for managing this website with wisdom, “posting only very interesting stuff.” Move around this interactive window, and try to spot what João found so interesting…

I was spending some time in Google Street View, when I saw some guys doing something strange in an window. I zoomed more and found that it was a mural painting, and was completely tricked. – João
