Blurred Lighthouse Illusion

After 9 years of struggle, finally I have graduated my University and obtained master’s degree in telecommunications. It feels like someone lifted a giant boulder off of my chest. Yet somehow I already miss this boulder. It made me feel I belong to something, I could’ve identified myself as being part of a student body… Anyway, now that you know the big news, let’s see what m.ee. Vurdlak has prepared for you today!

Try and focus on the right (sharp) part of the photo on your right. The photo shows something that resembles two lighthouses, but I can assure you it would’ve worked even if the motive was carrots. After some time the image has changed, and the right lighthouse turns blurry. You’ll get the impression the left lighthouse is now sharper than the right one. In reality the new image contains two identically blurred lighthouses. Not sure if I managed to explain this well enough, but I can assure you this illusion deserves some extra attention!

I’m little bit disappointed how none of you responded to my question regarding loading speed of our galleries. This also tells me how most of you don’t give a crap about what I say, as long as the illusions keep coming. I also noticed how I end up with pretty dumb headlines, when my attention is drawn away from illusions ;D

So let’s see if I can fix this with today’s post! It appears the Swedish artist Erik Johansson has joined the pavement chalk-masters wagon with his incredible optical illusion in the center of Stockholm. It tricks you into believing that the giant hole has opened up in the middle of the main city square. The illusion measures 32 by 18 metres and is located in Sergels torg square. Check some of the shots as well as accompanying video after the jump:

I’ve always been quite fascinated by perspective illusions and some time ago I got an idea of trying to realize one in a public space. My idea was to put up a photo in an environment and actually trick people that it would have depth. Street illusions aren’t new, but I wanted to try and make it as a photo instead of a mere drawing – Johansson

While some of the passers-by haven’t even noticed the illusion, others who have had the luxury of viewing the huge illusion from above beforehand, seem to have had a lot of fun with it as the video below shows. Now why is it that every other 3d chalk drawing master ends up drawing holes in the pavement?

Chupa-Chups Missing Pieces

Just came back from Paris yesterday evening. Can’t say I enjoyed much. Apart from marvelous architecture and breath-taking historic sights and museums, it felt like any other European metropolis. Perhaps I expected too much, thus was little bit disappointed. I enjoyed seeing Napoleon’s resting place at Les Invalides, and Louvre museum the most. There were so much tourists, I couldn’t stop feeling like one. Perhaps if I had some local friends, they could help me experience local life (and point me where I could eat some good food), ultimately making the trip much more interesting…

Sorry for such a long intro, just wanted to inform you I’m back now (and how last few posts were set to automatically appear each day, and were written few days ago ;). It’s also why it took so much time to get your comments approved. Now that I have charged my batteries once again, let me roll up my sleeves and continue sharing some good stuff! For today I bring you two posters that feature Missing Pieces illusion we featured some time ago. Seems that Chupa-Chups company jumped the optical illusion billboard wagon as well!

Shadow Illusion Square

I can’t thank you enough. You sent me over 300 translations since Saturday, and I’ve already implemented most of them! You should check your iGoogle homepage, and if it’s set to show your home language (at lest set it temporarily), you’ll see the change. I’d like to hear your comments on this. If you notice any misspellings or irregularities, be sure to notify me. Anyway, I hope this will make your user experience even better. We still need few languages though, but most of them are exotic so no need to rush. I’ll close the form and update those as well as soon as we receive them all.

I’ve been so concentrated on the technical part of this website, I let the illusions fall in quality a little. Hope I make it up to you in the following days. I think it’s about time I hire someone with passion in optical illusions writing, with little WordPress experience. Having some additional writers, would definitely impact the article count. Think you’re perfect for this job? Apply, and if you prove yourself, you could be making something like 10 bucks per article just sitting and writing from home!

But let’s move on to the illusions again. Elisha Bennett sent me this interesting photo recently. I have to admit I had this one on my hard drive for years, but somehow completely missed the point. You will quickly notice that the photo was simply rotated for 180 degrees, but it’s amazing how the shadows look 3D and that the square looks more natural in this version, then in the original. It’s almost as if we’re seeing actual parallel dimension, where people represent shadow’s shadow.

It appears as if the shadows are photoshoped to look 3d, but if you turn the photo over you’ll find its just an ordinary photo with the sun low on the horizon. – Elisha

Slanted Square Illusion no.3

Are these perfect squares? The squares in the picture are actually straight, perfect squares. While looking, this Optical Illusion really does another “magic trick” and makes me dizzy.
