Anyway, GreenProductions has created another awesome optical illusion video. I think it’s the same guy who presented us with Gray and White illusion from few days back. This time he gives us a final proof for them wavy spirals we posted in two parts. Be sure to check the Spiral tag, to see what I mean. I believe this vid’ should close the seemingly bent circles story once and for all.

I Don’t Wanna’ See a Spiral! – Part II

Since there was Part I of Non-Existing Spirals posted exactly one month ago, you presumed logically the sequel would arrive soon. Once again you were right! I have so many new and interesting Spiral Illusions to share, it would be unproductive to post each one as separate post, but then again – it wouldn’t make much sense to push them altogether through one single post, either. They would drive attention one from another, so I came up with a decision to group 2 or max 3 of them at once. Part III should follow soon! The question was asked on numerous occasions, and once again I ask you if you can believe all of them spirals below, are actually set of multiple concentric circles! Which one was hardest not to see as a spiral? You tell me! I would go with first one…

I Don’t Wanna’ See a Spiral! – Part I

Am I the only one with a problem, seeing these two images (second one can be found inside) as one continuous spiral line? In reality, both of them are constructed out of many concentric circles, yet the pattern filling their background somehow prevents us from seeing the image in it’s true nature. I wouldn’t expected anything less from great optical illusions, like these two! There were many similar examples in the past, but these are my favorites for now. Which one worked better for you? I liked the first one better, but in my belief the illusion works better with second example. If you have few more minutes, I recommend you check the Spiral Tag, and see many more where these came from!

Slanted Blocks and Another Spiral

Open this image in full-size. Are those concentric circles, or one continuous spiral?

Let us revisit the Seemingly Bent category. We hadn’t had unique optical illusion that belongs to this section, in quite a while. To remind you once again, Seemingly Bent category consists of illusions that give you impression you are seeing slanted lines and shapes, while in fact they are perfectly straight (or mutually parallel). Most famous example to represent this category could be “Cafe Wall“, followed by both slanted square and slanted seesaw.

Now that we have repeated the matter, I can proceed explaining today’s two specimens. First one on the right is nothing new to be frank. It’s just a more recent version of “Circles or Spiral” illusion. You can open the image in full-size to see the full effect. In short: the image gives you impression you are seeing continuous spiral, while there are only 6 concentric (ones that share the same center) circles instead. The second image below is new work by Akiyoshi Kitaoka, and believe it or not – all of the lines in it (consisted of gray blocks) are placed perfectly horizontal. I’m not pretty sure why is that, and does the color combination help making the effect stronger.

Count the Colors, Read the Solution

This is an oldie, but we rarely see this kind of optical illusions in its full effect. Ok, this is what I want you to do: count how many different colors you can see in this spiral below. Unfortunately color-blind individuals will only see a grayish pattern, so this won’t work for them (those of you can remain occupied reading this article). Rest of you, be sure first to notice that there are two different shades of pink, and then you may start counting. Most of us will end up with 4 different colors (2 pinkish ones, blue and a green). Well this was the wrong answer! Yes, you heard me right. There are actually only 3 colors present here. To see what I mean, check the second picture. It shows you how this image would look like if we removed those pinkish colors in background. Amazing, isn’t it? You may recall candy stripes we posted waaay back. It’s almost the same!

Circular Optical Illusions Collection

Before I try and explain today’s optical illusions, I’d like to take a minute of your time and ask you for a little favor. For today’s illusions, all I can say – they’re pretty circular! It took a lot of convincing before I believed that every single picture posted represents regular (concentric) circles or spheres. In some examples you may even think that the “curves” are actually spirals, but I can assure you that you would be making a big mistake! Many similar examples were already posted – you can check them in our archives. Which example was most insane?

Spiral Snailshell Optical Illusion

Hey everybody! Here is another spiral illusion – this time in Snail-o-vision! Interesting fact about this optical illusion, is that when people encounter it for the first time, based on their previous experience with illusions, they presume it has something to do with perpetual motion. At least that is what I presumed. I thought the only illusion happening here is “seemingly moving” spiral painted on our little snail’s shell, and not the best example of that type at all! If that was it, I wouldn’t be much excited, and would probably forward this photo directly to my recycle bin. But then I read the email that was companion to this submission. It said something like: “Is the snail shell really a spiral”? I looked at the shell more closely, and – Voila! The spiral is actually composed of many concentric circles. Very good!

Cool Spiral Optical Illusion

Buyakasha! Another interesting variation of a spiral optical illusion. Long time visitors will immediately, and by intuition know where the illusion hides, while rest of you will need few seconds before it comes to your attention. When you look at this drawing, you immediately see spiral pattern standing out against a grayish background. Try to trace the spiral with your finger – It isn’t there! The short curved lines really make circles, and your brain, confused by the background, mistakenly links the short lines and interprets them as a nonexistent spiral.

Is it only me, or do these circles composed of black and white squares, seem to cross-over? You be the judge! It worked for me… Amazing. Similar one here. I’m still not sure how these illusions work, and boy, we had many of them here in the past. Another version would be the one, where the concentric circles seem to make a spiral. Be sure to check more of these in seemingly bent category. Mind can be though to deceive, but that isn’t the case with this website. Enjoy and don’t go delusional!

Be sincere, what whas the first thing you thought for yourself, when seeing this image? I was sure it was just an oridnary spirall, but when observing it more precise, I figured out it’s actually a bunch of concentric circles… Hillarious! Did you get the same effect?
