I always wondered how U.S. security/intelligence system works. More importantly, how functional in practice inter-agency cooperation and information exchange really is – specially when there are like gazillion of them… Who coordinates them? Which one acts as roof on top of them all/is its name publicly known at all? I’m sure some of our millions of US visitors have insight into this stuff and would care to explain, at least what they’re allowed to, anyway. What I’m even more interested in, which of the many open-source cypher tools used to encode files are actually impenetrable (at least for now)? Potentially, which of the higher end (non-linear) encryption tools are “safe”, thus can’t be broken by mere use of brute force (by mega capable clusters of computers governments own)? How many of them are proven to lack back-door access?

Now, I wouldn’t want to draw any unnecessary attention, asking all them security questions (lol), yet young engineer-problem-solver minds are always curious and strive for knowledge in diverse fields :D Having such a big audience can actually be a mighty tool – just like that time we got insight into Free Masonry, which basically translates to networking/philanthropy brotherhood for what I could sum it up to(?). Anyhow, sorry for pulling you off the illusion course for a moment – won’t happen again… So, can you decide which of the police officers below is the biggest? You might be surprised what comes out of it, specially if you own Photoshop or some tools to inspect…

Before we start discussing today’s post, there’s one semi-crucial thing I’d like to share with you… hopefully someone will be able to help, eventually (?!). As you know, little while ago we have started our very own Facebook channel, which over time has accumulated more than 8,500 members. Unfortunately, back then I wasn’t aware that once you set the title of your FB page, there is no way of changing it. So instead of just naming it Mighty Optical Illusions, we named it Mighty Optical Illusions – Photography Fan Page (clumsy, right?). I’ve heard that Facebook occasionally bends its rules, and helps prominent brands in this situation, yet I don’t have direct contact with anyone inside. It would be of great help if some of our readers knew someone inside, or even better if you actually work for Facebook to instruct us what would be the best way to fix this error, thus enabling us to promote our page further (currently, it turns out pretty ugly when you promote it via FB ads, as title can’t be changed).

Anyway, check out how perspective plays with us in the following photo! The soldiers appear so close to each other, yet the difference in their size suggest different! BTW, there is a bonus Easter-Egg animation called “Superman Experience” hidden somewhere inside this article… let’s see how many of you can find it ;D

Check out the thumb on your right, and another one used as preview for a video embedded below. Now before you see the video, can you figure out which one of the objects placed on a plain sheet of paper is real? Being more precise, try and figure out which one of the little toy soldiers is the real one, and also try and distinguish those that are simple anamorphic prints. Same goes for the two bunnies on your right!

The video you see below was produced by Leo Burnett’s advertising agency in São Paulo, Brazil and was done for Samsung to advertise their printers. Seems that agencies started using illusions much more frequently in their approach lately! Does it mean we can expect much more professionally produced optical illusion content in the future? Let’s just wait and see!

UPDATE: We had a critical situation here – a database crash, and website ceased to function over the last couple of hours. Luckily backup was available, so everything should function correctly again. But I still need you to help me identify if there are any errors on this site left! Please report all your findings and experience during the down-time.

I don’t know if these shots were taken from an actual photojournalism, or were they just used as a theoretical example, but either way consider this a pretty powerful demonstration. See for yourself how our our perception can be easily shaped, and manipulated with by the media. I believe it isn’t necessary to explain this optical illusion. Photos speak for themselves. Imagine you worked for an administration that wants you to show how soldiers have no mercy when it comes to war. You would use the cropped picture on your left in that case. However, if you worked for the other side, and wanted to depict soldiers as human beings, you would crop the right part of the original photo. There you have it! Such powerful example amazes me, but in the same time scares the sh*t out of me. Which makes me think, should we be more skeptic to stories medias bombard us with?

Combine these two, and you quickly learn how this optical illusion really works. Yes, it’s another Multiple Meaning one. Just out of the curiosity, which one did you notice first? Soldier with Helmet or Bent Person?

Yesterday’s post got the lowest rating as far as my memory serves me. Even though the rating was bad, it somehow made me happy. You’ll probably ask yourselves why? Well, for some time I wasn’t sure if the ratings were realistic at all.

Almost all of our previous optical illusions got their rating so high, I beleived it’s our fans giving 5 stars irelevant of the illusion posted – even the bad ones would get good result (I feared). Gladly, yesterday’s result showed me we don’t have a problematic situation here. In fact, just opposite – this affirmed I really managed to find exceptional stuff in last months, and the fact that low results can happen just the same as good ones often do, the recent low result just strengthened the value and relevancy of previous posts that got very high results.I deeply appreciate your critique, since I already know your supportive side (even though I liked our yesterday’s post :)

Just so that you know why there was a 2 day delay between illusions, the reason was my trip for vacation. By now I have accommodated myself at the island of Korcula, which will be my new blogging station for the next month or so. It took some time before I could set up the office and internet connection here, but now all should be set now, and I’m ready to continue updating Moillusions.com from now on.

I’m glad that many of you switched to Facebook Connect, or created Gravatars for commenting on this site. Comments section looks much more “friendly” now, with all those user pictures posted next to their comment body. There was an issue with icons not appearing, but Facebook has fixed the bug, and all should be running perfectly now. Before I log out, I’m obligated to mention the illusion. As you see something is terribly wrong with our little soldiers. If you have problem understanding what is going on around, check original Elephant Illusion (famous one), and drop an eye on M.C. Escher Cowboys.
