Suneel Viralam shared this photo with me back in April, yet only now I gave it a second look. As you can see both USA President and Vice President are in it, yet something feels strange about their legs. Can you guess what happened, and to whom does the middle leg belong to? There are also some other important people in this photo, yet I don’t know who they are. If I was an American perhaps I’d know…

Barack Obama Afterimage

When the ship starts sinking, all the rats leave it. Same thing happened to my country (Croatia) today. Economic crisis, politic affairs and all sort of bad things came upon us one after another. Recognizing he can’t handle the situation any more, our prime minister resigned. Our government has fallen today, and all this couldn’t happen in worse moment.

Motivated by all this breaking news I’ve been listening to all day, I decided to post something Obama related. At least to give myself a hope for better future. I realize Barack isn’t a Superman, nor anything near a heroic savior United States hoped for, but you have to admit his figure was represented as hope for US, like nothing else was.

I’ll keep monitoring how things evolve in the following days. In the mean time here are some afterimage optical illusions for you to play with. If you aren’t familiar with afterimage illusions, you should check this category first. Its very simple – all you have to do is stare at the center of these images (for a minute or so), and afterward switch your view to some blank, white surface. White wall, or piece of paper should be more than fine. After few seconds, negative image should appear, enabling you to see what was hidden inside those afterimages. If you can’t see it clearly, repeat the procedure, or simply blink repeatedly and the results should appear more sharply.

What I just noticed when I opened my website, and checked the previous Don Quixote illusion, is that there was a hidden Easter egg for all of us! Check out the shield next to the soldier’s left foot. Can you see a reference to the Vase Faces illusion we already published? I felt really smart when I discovered this! Now on to our next article – How big should your canvas be? How about 2.5 acres of ground! This is exactly how much was used to create a gigantic Barack Obama portrait. Piece you are seeing bellow is called “Expectations”, and the artist behind this sand art is Jorge Rodrigues Gerada. The outsize scale of Expectation also allowed the artist to allude to the global impact of this election. For people around the world, the symbolic power of an Obama presidency would be without precedent in modern history. Amazing Obama Body Paint Illusion

Now this is something you don’t see every day! Yet another Brack Obama optical illusion for all of you. I believe we hadn’t had simmilar collective body paint examples before (except those fish), but as you see it’s never to late. In my opinion there is no need to dissect and explain today’s submission – rather just look at it, and admire. Hope everyone understands how it was done, and that it works only from a certain angle. This is exactly what Felice Varini does, with addition of humans and body art. Can’t wait to hear your comments. Hope you liked this as much as I did.

Who Says We Don’t Have Barack Obama Illusion?

I thinks we had some pretty quality optical illusions lately. Do you share my opinion? As you probably noticed, Mighty Illusions has always been up to date with world news and politics. Those of you who follow this blog more deeply, remember my reflection on current economic crisis and USA Presidential Elections. Few weeks ago we presented you with brand new Barack Obama afterimage, but this wasn’t our last Presidential illusion – No Sir! Today we bring you another awesome Obama animation. This Scheibe Illusion was first conceived as the Margaret Thatcher Illusion, then updated to George Bush illusion, and finally updated to Barack Obama version. Barack states he is “pro-science”, so he probably won’t mind this.

The explanation of the image should go something like this: “Vestibular Correction keeps the image on your visual cortex steady even though your eyes are moving around wildly. But the vestibular correction system has its limits. What you see below is an animated GIF image which flips every five seconds. First look at the upside down image. Both faces look normal, but when they flip you will see how weird one of the faces really is. We have no trouble recognizing the person, but since we recognize facial features with a whole other part of the brain, the vestibular thing got garbled in part”.
