Those of you following our Facebook and Twitter channel had a jump-start privilege in learning the big news I’m about to share – I’m very happy to announce the rollout of a mobile version of Mighty Optical Illusions! We all know how slow wireless connections can be, and how frustrating it can get to wait for a ton of extras to load while you’re staring at your phone screen (and can’t see them anyway). Over time, I’ve been polishing this site until each pixel fell in its place, yet deep inside me I knew I won’t be able to ignore the growing trend of mobile use for much longer. To that end, I’ve enabled the mobile version and each time you visit moillusions.com using your smart-phone the algorithm should self detect your platform, and serve appropriate (stripped down version) of this site. You should only be able to see the bare essentials, ensuring quick load times and ease of use! Now hows that for an upgrade?

It’s based on the WPtouch Pro theme by BraveNewCode. Unfortunately I had to pay for the service, but I believe it’s worth every penny. The install went pretty much straight-forward, and the level of customization it provides is amazing.

To see the new mobile version, just go to moillusions.com on any touch-screen mobile device. I’ll be improving on the design in the coming weeks, so be sure to report your findings and share what you think of it in the comments. Here are some screenshots taken with iPhone and Samsung. Also, I would deeply appreciate if you could send some more of off your device. I will then include them inside this gallery!

As promised, there are few more camouflage installations by Liu Bolin just waiting to be published, but first I’ll show you another talented urban artist. I wasn’t given any details, nor the name of the talent with this submission, but the photos speak for themselves. Look how professionally did the graffiti artist camouflage his mate to fit the surroundings perectly. If you passed these locations in public, I’m not sure how close you’d have to be to distinguish the hidden persona – very close, I believe!

Concerning our beloved website, I decided to give a little recap of past month and things that kept me occupied. So let’s start with some of the main changes:

iPad + iPhone universal app has been revamped. Description page has also been built from scratch.

Facebook fan-group proved to be great success. Tons of optical illusion submissions and 1,500 fans.

Twitter followers finally started rolling in, and I finally started to understand how Twitter works.

Our self hosted video player gives me freedom to post much more video illusions than I used to.

With Facebook’s plans to take over the Internet, I’ve played along and implemented F-Share.

Ok, remember the exciting announcement I mentioned earlier? Well, I couldn’t wait any longer to share this with you guys. So here it is – We have finally completed the “Daily Optical Illusion” app for iPad (and iPhone).

Those lucky bastardz who got their hands on Apple’s premium gadget already, can immediately get the app via iTunes (link here – don’t forget to click the little iPad icon to see the iPad specific screenshots, not iPhone ones!). Rest of us can enjoy the screenshots below.

Well, actually the revamped app is universal, so those of you using iPhone can download as well, but I believe most of the premium features work better on iPad. Anyway, I’ll create the separate page for the App soon, but just wanted to share the news first.

All of the app specs can be found inside the app store, but basically you get a new illusion each day (or two), package full of already published illusions, descriptions, comments, ratings, and much much more…

Oh, and not to skip the current “illusion of the day”, here’s another Tim Noble and Sue Webster shadow art installation. The illusion works in a way, that when light is cast on the seemingly random garbage formation, it produces a shadow resembling AT sign, the inter-connector we mostly use in email communication (or on Twitter ;)

iTunes: iPad App · iPhone App · Download

This photo you see on your right, was taken with iPhone. Reportedly, the propeller was spinning at somewhere around 2000 rpm. I’m pretty sure you’ll agree with me that the effect is rather weird, since the image came out so seamless. I need your help determining whether this is a natural phenomenon, or simply a result of the low-cost camera hardware and/or software? There must be some dashingly clever individuals out there, who will comment and tell us exactly why this occurs!

On the personal level, I always believed in God. In my opinion, there must be some incredible force that made all the chaos make sense. It’s just that I don’t care whether it’s name is Jesus, Buddha… or Mother Nature. I believe God is too abstract and complex for our primitive minds to understand. This is why I always thought it’s meaningless to debate over it in depth. Raised in Christian surrounding, still I never felt connected to church as an establishment. In my belief church is too narrow-minded, thus reduces the meaning of God and putts it closer to the ground just by preaching about it. I won’t go into debate what I think of a church as an establishment, but why I’m telling you all this is because I learned that there is a society of men that share the exact same views I have. By now you probably guessed I’m talking about Freemasonry.

So I studied a little, read different books with different approaches to Free Masons – both pro and con. I even read some fiction novels referring to them (Lost Symbol by Dan Brown). Finally, I came to a conclusion it’s a positive organization, if you don’t count individuals involved just with careerism in mind. If I understood their ways correctly, statistically speaking – it would be much easier to meet higher percentage of profound and educated gentleman in such surrounding than elsewhere. If some of you have deeper knowledge about the organization, feel free to send me an email. I’d love to debate some questions regarding all this, talk about science, religion, philosophy…
