Update: Lava Burst Enhanced?

Here’s a quick update, just to refresh that annoying animation that appears in your widgets. You’re probably right, in the future if we ever post similar stuff, I’ll use a static image for all your Optical Illusion of The Day widgets. The photo you see below belongs to Edgar Muller’s pavement art. I know we had that particular Lava Cave installation already, but is it only me, or does this one appear even more realistic? Has Edgar “updated” his drawing? Was the photographer more professional this time? Any clue whatsoever?

Only few days ago, we have featured some of the most interesting chalk drawings by Edgar Müller. But this hasn’t stopped Edgar from doing some more excellent work, more precisely in Moscow, Russia. Pictured below, you may find a colossal 3D Chalk Drawing, just like Edgar usually does ‘em. If you continue scrolling inside this article, there are few more shot of how the picture came to be. Check out the concrete plaza in Moscow, before work on “Duality” has even started, as well as the finished product. More images after the jump.

As we reported back in Feb, scientists have been baffled by the appearance of a mysterious cave at West India Quay, London. Now the same phenomena has been spotted in Geldren, Germany. Moving away from fiction, stepping back to reality, what you see below is 3d chalk drawing created by Edgar Mueller for the International Street Painting Competition in Geldern 2009. Pavement Warefall Optical Illusion

Just when I wanted to complain how Edgar Müller’s pavement drawings, (even though being extremely professional and realistic) all form some kind of giant holes in the ground, I received his Waterfall project. Yup, it still has some kind of descending implemented, but this one should also stand proud next to his previous projects. It may be useful to mention that Waterfall pavement drawing was in fact Edgar’s first project. I have added few more photos inside this post, but even more can be found inside the gallery beneath. With about 270 m², this painting was exhibited on the occasion of the Prairie Art Festival. Check Edgar Müller tag for more of his works!

Mysterious Caves Project

Scientists have been baffled by the appearance of a mysterious cave at West India Quay, London. It is believed that a light earthquake unearthed the cave which is estimated to be over 10 million years old, but scientists cannot explain the intense glow of green lights emitting from its depths.

By now, you should have guessed that intro is nothing more than a fiction, with its sole purpose of making this optical illusion little more interesting. What you see below is a 3D Chalk Drawing, created by world-class pavement artist Edgar Müller, whose works we posted on many occasions before. If you remember Ice Age chalk drawing, or maybe that Lava Burst optical illusion – Edgar was responsible for both! His newest creation was exhibited on West India Quay’s Festival in London. It’s hard to imagine you could easily walk over this huge cave, and that concrete pavement is still lying beneath. It took 5 days for Edgar to finish this project. Hope you noticed my little hack, where I added digg button inside each post (just next to the article title). You can help us spread the word about this website by submitting articles you think are worthy. When someone submits them, you can easily vote. If you are not fond of this, then simply continue stumbling them, like you did before. Back to main topic – since many of you liked Edgar’s Lava Burst illusion so much, I decided to share his second project. You probably notice the similarity, except this time there is no lava hole but ice instead. Edgar needed 5 days to compile this huge chalk drawing. With five of his assistants, he painted all day long from sunrise to sunset, which resulted with this incredibly realistic and 250 square meter painting. I would like to hear which one is your favorite – this one, or the previous lava one? Comment!

Lava Burst Optical Illusion

No Julian Beever this time, but what we have here is one bad-ass 3D pavement chalk drawing. Edgar Mueller is responsible for today’s illusion. I’m not sure what you think, but seems these chalk drawings surpassed Julian’s artwork by more than an inch. Our looks fall for what was once a quite normal street of a German, medium-sized town. Immediately an apocalyptic scene offers itself to the observer. The floor bursts, and lava flows into a raging sea. There is a disaster in town, where cars ran once and people followed their daily routine. Nothing is like it once was. The superior elemental force forces its way. But as it is with most stuff on this site, appearances are deceptive. Only if one looks from right point of view, Muellers three-dimensional painting becomes perfect disaster illusion. If you noticed, there is a water flowing in the center of the street, I just can’t figure what the hell it has to do with the lava theme? Check Edgar’s flooded street, when you’re finished here.

Pavement Art Illusions From Germany

Manfred Stader and Edgar Müller are the the street painters whose talent is behind these incredible pavement drawings. Having traveled the world, and studied many type of paintings, they now run their own business in Germany creating pavement paintings and street art, often for companies that pay them to create unique chalk drawing campaigns for them. If you are a regular visitor of Mighty Optical Illusions website, you’ll notice some similarity with Julian Beever’s stuff, mostly through colorful pallets Manfred and Edgar use, along with incredibly realistic motives.

Oh yeah, I also added some funny clips at the bottom of my blog’s sidebar. You can check them out if you are in for a good laugh…
