I have just received this optical illusion from my former classmate – it’s a promotional poster for some sort of product called Horlicks. I’m not gonna tell you what the the illusion here really is, as I have confidence you’ll manage to spot on your own. I’m sure you will find it sooner or later. Yet, there is a chance you won’t like it as much as I did (which is mostly because it managed to fool me when I first saw it). The only hint I can give you is this: if you think you’re seeing a hand holding a magnifying glass, think again! BTW, I was surprised how no one answered my earlier question :( !?

Nestle’s Nescafe Illusory Poster

Kahla Glasheen has been following this site each day for a couple of years now. One thing Kahla noticed is that we never featured one particular historical illusion – a poster Nestle created for their Nescafe coffee. After little research, it turns out this poster originates all the way back in 1930s. The illusion is intuitive, and in fact you should be ablre notice it quite easily. Yet the beauty and simplicity of the poster is what I really liked about it!

One thing that surprised me was your reception of our recent cinemagraph illusion. I thought you’ll be astonished, mesmerized, surprised even, yet it seems I was wrong. The difference between simple animated .gif files and cinemagraphs is not easily distinguishable. However, having more luck than taste, seems I wasn’t so wrong after all. Some of our users noticed that this “Psycho” illusion holds another well hidden easter egg inside it – a frame featuring some sort of skull-ish X-ray layer, one that isn’t so obvious.

Have to admit, I never noticed this before! It’s such a shame you didn’t react positive on cinemagraph illusions, as I had few of them lined up to be published soon. The beauty behind them should lye in the fact that only single detail gets animated, while rest of the photo stays just what it is – a still photo. Apparently it takes lots of time to create them. Check out this gallery and see if I can change your opinion ;D

Coffee Illusion

I have just stumbled upon these two peculiar, coffee-related photos lying on my hard disk. Before I begin, let me share this interesting fact – Did you know that the coffee was first discovered in Northern Africa in an area we know today as Ethiopia? A popular legend refers to a goat herder by the name of Kaldi, who observed his goats acting unusually frisky after eating berries from a bush. Curious about this phenomena, Kaldi tried eating the berries himself, only to find out that these berries gave him a renewed energy.

The news of this energy laden fruit quickly spread throughout the region. Monks hearing about this amazing fruit, dried the berries so that they could be transported to distant monasteries. They reconstituted these berries in water, ate the fruit, and drank the liquid to provide stimulation for a more awakened time for prayer. So there you have it! I personally believe the truth lyes somewhere in between this legend and recorded history. Can you easily see the illusion in the photo on your right? I’ve already gave you much more help than you need!

Now let me show you something funny I stumbled upon recently… Actually, I’m not 100% sure whether I found it myself or it was submitted to me by one of our fans. Whichever it is, be sure to take a moment of your time and carefully observe the attached photo. Have you noticed anything strange in it? How about them cups of hot chocolate? Anything suspicious? If you still have trouble guessing, you may find the solution in here. Now admit it, how many of you got it right?

Cosmopolitan Optical Illusion

Can you detect a hidden “illusion“ in these two photographs? It shouldn’t be too hard, and the illusion is quite similar in both images. It took me few seconds before I figured the cow one, so decided to share with you to test your senses. The only problem with these two, is once you figure them out, there’s no going back. Photoshopped? Most definitely!

Relative Coffee Cups

Before we start with fresh content, I’d like to encourage you all to use “Facebook Connect” button more often (when posting your comments). Probably you’ve also noticed that our comments section now includes profile photos. The problem is that very few actually took the time to set their profile photo. By using Facebook commenting system, your photos are automatically shown. This reduces the number of boring anonymous comments, and increases uniqueness inside your comments. If you aren’t such a Facebook fan, you can still grab your own Gravatar, and set your unique picture. Check it out! I’m sure you’ll love it.

Concerning the illusions, I found this one through Google image search. I really liked it. Now, if I started talking too much about it, the answer would become more than obvious. I wouldn’t like to ruin this one for you, so I’ll let you solve this by yourselves. All I can say is that it has something to do with Relative Sizes. Shouldn’t be too complicated, though.
