I’m certain most of you know about The Beatles, and have probably at some point in your life seen the album cover where they walk across the Abbey Road. The original image of the Beatles on the crossing has become one of the most famous and imitated in recording history. One such spoof was recently done featuring the Peanuts’ gang Charlie Brown, Lucy, Snoopy, Woodstock, & Marcie. Check it out below! The most interesting part is how the anamorphic chalk drawing appears when seen from a side.

For their front cover design (scroll further down), a photograph of the group traversing a zebra crossing, the photographer Iain Macmillan was given only ten minutes to take the photo whilst he stood on a step-ladder and a policeman held up the traffic. In the scene, the group walk across the street in single file from left to right, with Lennon leading, followed by Starr, McCartney, and Harrison. McCartney is barefoot.

It might be interesting to mention how to the left of the picture (parked next to the zebra crossing) is a white Volkswagen Beetle motor-car which belonged to one of the people living in the block of flats across from the recording studio. After the album was released, the number plate (LMW 281F) was stolen repeatedly from the car. The crossing is also a very popular destination for Beatles fans and there is even a webcam featuring it!

Below you may see a collection of otherworldly images that trick the eye. Author is #Gregor Wosik, a street artist from Poland. Although he is not as well known as #Julian Beever, #Kurt Wenner or #Edgar Mueller, his quality work is quickly earning him an admirable reputation! If my memory serves me well, he was the one who created those Jack Daniels anamorphic drawings. While the pictures work form a specific angle, they look distorted from every other angle. Whether the art pieces are composed of natural scenery or fantasy, they are always quite a sight to see! Some of Gregor Wosik’s works can be seen below, and more inside the attached gallery…

Here’s an illusion I received from Alexis Monnerot, which was just finished on the morning 21st of September. Located in front of the Montparnasse railway station in Paris, France this hyper-realistic 3D chalk drawing greatly reminds one of Julian Beever and his epic installments. I’m not exactly sure about the author behind this installment, but I’m sure Alexis will enlighten us in her comments!

And as we mentioned comments, remember how I recently improved the discussion section with the ability for you to add pictures inside them? Well, as of recently it seems you have started using this option much more frequently. It provides me with great joy to see how people began contributing more intensely. For example, it seems there is a new trend among you – outlining solutions and posting related illusions directly inside your comments! This was my intention in the first place when I originally imagined this website! If at some point in the past you have asked yourself how come I rarely post solutions to the illusions – I secretly hoped in time our community will evolve and start contributing by itself. Seems we are on a right trail of reaching this right now. My next idea would be to add some kind of voting system to your comments, so that the best voted comments would jump up first. In time, I imagine it would come to that, that a particular comment holding the solution (image attachment or related illusion pic) would rank best. What do you think of this idea? (Just me brainstorming out loud…)

About one month ago, I posted a 3D chalk drawing by Tracy Lee Stum featuring the classic Milton Bradley game of Mouse Trap. Since so many of you liked her artwork, I figured you’d enjoy getting to see another one of her 3D chalk drawings, only this time of a mummy escaping his/her tomb. I particularly like this one because the art is so cartoonish-like, yet it still looks as though it is about to burst into our world of reality. Sort of like an ancient Egyptian version of Toontown from Who Framed Roger Rabbit film. It’s one thing to make 3D art that looks like it’s about to enter our world, but when you manage to make something unrealistic blend with the reality, that becomes even more impressive. What do you guys think?

We’ve featured tons of 3D chalk drawings on the site before, but what makes this one particularly special isn’t the subject matter (although Mouse Trap is a great choice), but the awesome video of the masterpiece being completed.

The lead artist behind this work is Tracy Lee Stum, who happens to hold a Guinness World Record for the largest chalk painting by a single individual (as opposed to the largest chalk drawing by a group, which is featured on Moillusions here). Yeah, she’s pretty impressively talented whether working with a group, like she did on this Mouse Trap project, or working alone, like she did on the record-winning Last Supper piece below.

You’re cruising down the road, nearing a school zone, when BAM! Out of nowhere, a little girl chasing her ball across the street appears. Your heart races, you slam on the brakes, and then her image dissolves. What? Two Canadian safety organizations have partnered to install a $15,000 device that projects the likeness of a girl chasing a pink ball down the street onto a road in Vancouver, British Columbia. She’s seen most clearly at a distance of 30 meters, looks like a blur from further away, and disappears up close. The BCAA hopes it will remind drivers to expect the unexpected, but it seems that it could just catch less-than-attentive drivers off guard, leading to accidents stemming from drivers trying to avoid this imaginary girl. The finished “project” looks anything but realistic! And when I remember how we disagreed with Optical Illusion Street Bumps…

It appears they were done as an add for a company called HDI (don’t ask me, I have no idea what they’re advertising). Anyway, the artist who painted them appears to be true genius, but I doubt it was Julian Beever who painted this – his style and colors are somewhat different. Hope you still like chalk drawings, and I plan to share more after hearing your thoughts…

Scientists have been baffled by the appearance of a mysterious cave at West India Quay, London. It is believed that a light earthquake unearthed the cave which is estimated to be over 10 million years old, but scientists cannot explain the intense glow of green lights emitting from its depths.

By now, you should have guessed that intro is nothing more than a fiction, with its sole purpose of making this optical illusion little more interesting. What you see below is a 3D Chalk Drawing, created by world-class pavement artist Edgar Müller, whose works we posted on many occasions before. If you remember Ice Age chalk drawing, or maybe that Lava Burst optical illusion – Edgar was responsible for both! His newest creation was exhibited on West India Quay’s Festival in London. It’s hard to imagine you could easily walk over this huge cave, and that concrete pavement is still lying beneath. It took 5 days for Edgar to finish this project. Below is the “Behind the Scenes” gallery, where you can see the work in progress.

Today I learned about another talented pavement artist, called Manfred Stader. We had few of his works posted on Mighty Optical Illusions over the years, but I didn’t have a clue Manfred was the artist behind those. So I carefully went through our 3D Chalk Drawings category, and updated belonging posts with correct tag. As you see, 3d street art has been in the spotlight of marketing agencies as of late. Specially for those orientated towards liquors and soda drinks. Manfred has closed some pretty huge marketing deals with major brands, including Jack Daniel’s. Below you can see some of his newest drawings that were done on a flat surface. Many of you requested I should post additional photos, showing 3d chalk drawings from different angle. Because I listen to all of your suggestions, I have included additional gallery beneath these photos, where you can see some of the paintings from opposite angle. Enjoy!
