Just because we haven’t talked about Bev Doolittle for some time now, doesn’t mean we think any less of her extraordinary talent. But there’s one great mistake I keep repeating – each time we feature some of HER magnificent art, I wrongfully presume Bev is a guy. No matter how many times you corrected me on this, I keep forgetting what you have told me. I’d like to make up for this by sharing a short bio of the artist:

Bev Doolittle is one of America’s most collected artists. Crowded with intricate visual detail, haunted by presences seen and unseen, her paintings captivate the viewer on many levels. Traveling throughout the west in a camper, Bev had the luxury of time to develop her unique style. Her signature painting, “Pintos“, proved to be a dramatic departure point for Bev when her evolving style and technique merged with her love of nature to create what would become virtually a new genre.

She is often called a “camouflage artist” because her distinctive use of context, design and pattern help viewers discover meanings which seem hidden only until they become obvious. Having all this in mind, after viewing rest of her opus (links in this article), try and see as many hidden animals there are in this picture. Don’t stop after you’ve only seen one or two – there are much more to be discovered!

Gracefully, there is always some unpublished masterpiece by Bev Doolittle – just waiting to jump in (when there is nothing else for me to post on this site). I’ve found great bunch of awesome optical illusions by Bev, and will keep posting them until you stop visiting this website – Kiddin’ ;) I’ll post more of them from time to time, when I find it appropriate. What I like about Bev’s artwork, is that there is always a story behind each of HER pictures. For example: today’s image is more than just a fox posing for our artist.

“Woodland Encounter, painted well along in my career, is a deliberate study in camouflage by misdirection, which grew out of my effort to break all the normal ‘rules of composition’. The bright-colored fox, deadcenter, distracts the eye from whatever is going on in the busy snow scape surrounding him. And the richness of design – a wonderful, natural part of the trees themselves also gave me the opportunity to play games with the traditionally accepted uses of space that govern a well conceived piece of art.” -Bev Doolittle

Donald “Rusty” Rust is an artist with a repertoire as extensive as his talent. He is an immensely prolific painter, who adeptly renders intriguing camouflage wildlife scenes, landscapes, seascapes, still-life’s and portraits. If you think you never heard of him, well he was the one responsible for our most commented optical illusion ever – The Hidden Tiger. Many other successful illusions from our archive were created by Rusty as well. This time Rusty draw a landscape with a Native American portrayed inside it. But our little Indian isn’t the only living thing inside this picture. Can you see what else Rusty tried to hide from us (for reasons unknown to me)? Shouldn’t be too hard for you, optical illusion veterans .
