Shimmering Optical Illusion

Does this object below seem to move? Does it make you nervous? I forgot the complete explanation of this illusion, but I remember it has something to do with few of your brain areas beeing too near to eachother. It makes them falsely interpret perceived information.. or something… Try to stare at this for a minute… it will drive you crazy, CRAZY I tell ya!!!

  1. I get a cool effect when i look at the picture and scroll up and down. Not sure if it’s a result of my browser or my brain :)

  2. Well it shimmered and moved in a few seconds and it is a nice illusion – and like you – I also dont know why – But you have a wonderful site and thanks

  3. it’s pretty creepy when you minimize your browser so you can drag it all across your screen. i also noticed it did something weird when i scrolled up and down and decided to move it all around.

its not the browser, its your mind!

i cant even explain what happens… like two little bulges out of the middle

  4. OOh, i didnt notice it moving when i stared at it, but stare at it and then look at a blank wall…i saw a really fast moving spiral thingee….can ya see it?

  5. in firefox, while scrolling with the keyboard (not mousewheel), two circular wavelike shapes formed to the left and right of center.

  6. when ya scroll up and down fast it looks like a little bug flapping its wings in the middle…but thats just me

  7. whoa! When i stared at this for like 20 seconds it started like flapping. 10 more seconds it practiclaly jumped from the screen!!!!!

  8. OH MY GAWD!
    IT REALLY DOES MOVE!!
to those peeps, STARE AT THE CREEPY HOLE .
    STARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    THEN IT WILL MOVE..
Like its trying to get out of the screen…

  9. yah the afterimage is kool………….puts me in that happy place with the killer rabbits, but doesnt try to get out of the screen….*sighs* yum…….blood……

  10. This is what I feel it might be,

Stare at this image for 30 seconds, and then look at a white screen. I felt seeing a spinning image. (Might be because I have watched too many illusions just now, but I feel this might be the illusion here).

  11. wow… look at the center for a few seconds, then close your eyes tight, and you will see some kind of circle spinning around…

  12. Wow, it almost seems as if its breathing. Kind of creepy, but I didn’t see the spinning part, just appearance of movement like growing and shrinking and growing and shrinking (like breathing!).

  13. we stare at it for 15 seconds, look at a white backround. i see something spinning and my bud sees something being sucked into the middle of it.

  14. Did you close your eyes after starring at it for a while?

You see a circle rolling from right to left, at least I do. Try it and let me know what you see after you close your eyes after watching it for a while.

  15. The “wings” that you see when scrolling appears to be a moire effect. It’s a side-effect of the time that it takes for the screen pixels to change color/brightness.

You can tell that it’s a hardware issue, because you get a totally different effect when you move the screen around!

  16. I saw the time vortex, a la Doctor Who. No, I seriously did.

    (The drums, the DRUMS … 1234 1234 1234 1234 1234)

  17. OH MY GOD!!! When I look at the typed words on the screen, after staring at the picture, the words are so WAVY!!! I hope I didn’t interrupt something in the delicate system of quantum physics!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wait, how do I know about that? I’m only 11 years old… but then again I’m as smart as hell!!!! Up top, anybody?
