Jacek Szydłowski, who goes by the nickname Reiz0r, found this strange weather anomaly in Google Earth. I know how this happens, probably layer snapshots are used from different times of year. However, it looks really cool and little SF. Rez0r wrote this: “First of all, your site is really cool so I use google widget and lastly I was inspired by ghost car illusion so i decided to post some strange weather anomaly from google earth. Screen included and here are coordinates: 54°45’31.98″N 18°23’58.01″E Take care, make your site best illusion site ever.” Also concerning pizza island from few days before, another user submitted even cooler Google Pizza, and I’ll post it soon. There are more anomalies and optical illusions of this type inside Google Earth category. If you find more similar strange locations, be sure to submit snapshot (not .kml or .kmz) and coordinates, so other visitors can find the location themselves. Thanks.

PC Squirrel hopes I will post his illusion of a transparent desktop, so I did. It’s interesting submission because he posted two photos, one of shows the final effect, and the other is plane background of his computer. I specially liked the way that the screen of his computer seems like it has night vision built in, so you can clearly see how the background looks, even in dark. More complicated illusion of this sort can be seen in a video I posted earlier. This was quite popular few months ago, when there was even a flickr group where people would share their transparent screen DIY’s (DIY stands for “do it yourself“). I have many of them inside our Mighty Transparent Screens category. I’ll take an hour or so to post many new illusions today, so expect them coming in following hours.

Whats this people, one day I don’t post an illusion, and the traffic drastically drops! Hehe, seems I’ll have to start posting more often, ayeh? First of all I’d like to thank Louis, Alessandro and John for contacting me about that c++ task I had for my assignment, I managed to do it myself, but I’ll maybe drop you an email, if I need some help in the future ;) Hope that is ok with you guys? Further, Don Gardner emailed me this double sunset illusion. First I wasn’t sure if it’s only photoshopped, so I emailed Don to explain this effect. Here is his email: “Hi, this is a double-exposure overlapped to appear to be a double sunset. I took the photo last weekend in Western Kenya with tripod mounted Nikon D100, and this is how it came out. Two exposures, shifting the camera slightly to move the sun from left side of frame to right side, double exposing one frame.” I didn’t quite understand it, but the effect he achieved is magnificent! Do you like it? Is that Mars, you can see in the middle, or some star?

Here’s an original idea what you can do, while on a vacation. This art was probably invented by the original author, Michael Hughes. You can find whole lot more of these on his website, where you can buy similar cool stuff. Check it. The guy we see in these pictures is probably Michael, and he made a great perspective illusion with postcards aligned perfectly with environment and then photographed. It makes a cute hobby, if you ask me. This is something new on this site, and closes thing we have, similar to these, is the relative sizes category. There you can find more illusions of this kind. Like the Office Pranksters and Man Holding a Sun. There are few more photos inside this article, but I placed Zadar on the main page, due it is city in Croatia, my home country. Which one did you like the best? Those that fit perfectly, or those that are from old times (like the black and whit photo of NY Statue of Liberty

Hmm, seems it’s time for another true optical illusion. Sorry people, there aren’t so many pure ones, so I have to post closest things I have. Luckily, I found this set of photos from Perth, Australia to show you great impossible object. Just in time to celebrate my Croat team victory in waterpolo world championships that was held in Australia as well. It’s an art installation or a statue of some sort, that gives an impression of impossible triangle, if viewed correctly. Inside this article you can see photos of it from different angles. It’s the same idea as the Unity triangle, that was also featured on MI. Anyone saw this in person? Is the effect as good as it is in the photos? You tell me!

Here’s something you might have missed. Not an illusion really, but wanted to share this with you guys and gals. Apparently what we considered spam in last few years is nothing compared to this! During the time, people forgot from where this term originates from, so heres a little reminder so you feel educated :) I would really like to know more on this topic. Anyone feels like browsing wikipedia for more info? Please post your comments! So, it appears we were all under illusion of spam being only internet junk – actually it’s something quite different. Enjoy!

From Wikipedia:

Spam is a popular Monty Python sketch, first broadcast in 1970. In the sketch, two customers are trying to order a breakfast from a menu that includes the processed meat product in every dish. The term spam (in electronic communication, and as of 2006, general slang) is derived from this sketch.

Only three and a half minutes long, it builds up into a semi-argument between the waitress who has a menu limited to having Spam in just about everything (“Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, sausage, eggs and Spam“), and Mrs. Bun, who is the only one in the room who does not want it (despite there being some items mentioned that do not actually include Spam, she nevertheless asks for an item without Spam in it).

The phenomenon, some years later, of marketers drowning out discourse by flooding Usenet newsgroups and individuals’ email with junk mail advertising messages was named spamming, recounting the repetitive and unwanted presence of Spam in the sketch.

Hy Guys! I have been learning so wasn’t around yesterday. If there is someone who is good in C and C++ programming, drop me an email if you’d like to help me with one simple homework program. It would only take minute to someone good, and eternity to me :)

Another thing I noticed, when you search for “Optical Illusions” in Google, our site appears only 6th, which isn’t really fair I think, since Mighty Illusions is truly internet biggest optical illusion database. Before we got this new domain, we were 2nd. If you want to help us get the first spot, you simple can link http://www.moillusions.com/ with anchor text “Optical Illusions” on your site. This will help us a lot. Thanks!

Concerning today’s illusions, here are two Google Earth Illusion submissions. First one is from Zack Carver: “Hey, just so you know I love your site! I have the Google Widget, it rocks, I love illusions. This is really cool Google earth illusion! Here are some ways to get find it: On Google Earth, Search ghost_car (It”s somewhere in Germany). Or go to 51″30’01.49 N 7″12’19.41 E” It’s the Ghost car, perfect addition to our ghost airplane, ghost ship and flying car illusions.

The second one is Broccoli Pizza Island, submitted by Kevin, NH. Kevin said: “It’s an island that looks like a broccoli pizza with a slice taken off. The wierd thing is, that it’s in Italy! The home of pizzas! Here are the coordinates: 12°18’26.01″ E, 45°27’6.06″ N. It’s somewhere in Venice. Enjoy!

Hy everybody! Today I brought you two more cool illusion video clips! First one is called The Time Fountain, and gives you illusion of stopping time, and going into history. The device in the video creates the illusion that a simple stream of water droplets can defy the known laws of physics. With controlling a set of flickering LEDs, the dripping water can appear to slow down, freeze in mid-air, and even reverse in direction – Interactively! If you like this as much as I do, here is a link of building your own. Another updated illusion is Transparent Screen one. I added really cool video to the site, which you have to see! Enjoy them both, and if you like these videos so much, few more can be found on the site. Check dragon illusion, purple haze and Ames room.
