Here’s an interesting optical illusion submitted by Jaime Heravi. It looks as if there were two candles and two candle holders in front of the mirror. Wrong! First I thought it was bad illusion, since I didn’t read carefully what Jaime wrote, but after realizing there is only one candle in this photo, I had a nice surprise. Do you know how it was done?
We have similar, yet opposite situation in this article. Try figuring out both of the illusions, and where the flame disappeared in second one, and send in your comments. Thanks Jaime for another cool illusion for our site. I have trouble finding quality stuff all of you will like, but I have few more audio illusions waiting to be posted. I realized you like those very much!
Ohh, and about that very important exam I told you about before, I passed it! It is the hardest exam on my university, and when you pass it, you can consider your self Dr. Science. The exam is called Electronics 2, on my faculty Electrotechnics and Computer engineering.

Just found this album cover from a band called Time Requiem. It is even called “Optical Illusion”. I believe you’ll have no trouble spotting the illusions in this image. The fiery guy in the middle is juggling four impossible objects. What is even better, we covered all of them in the past. First one is impossible crate box, second one is impossible triangle (of which we have dozen examples), the third is Lisa Simpson’s impossible object and fourth one is Moebius ring, originally created by M.C. Escher. Those of you who recommended obeus and sourceforge embeddable audio players in my last post’s comment section, thanks – I’ll use them in my next audio optical illusion. If you want more optical illusion album arts check: Styx, Def Leppard, Soulwax, Jet, Andrew Gold, Aerosmith… Hmm, I should really make new category for these soon!

Adam Cline found another audio illusion for me to put on the site. I tried serving it through Google Mail podcast player, but it didn’t work. This audio illusion works in a same way as holophonic matchbox mp3s. Visit our audio illusions category for more cool illusionary mp3s. Don’t forget to hear Shepard’s Paradox, and be sure to check your hearing at “Ringtone audible only to under 20 year olds“. Oh, I almost forgot to mention:
This effect works best if you put on your headphones on. Download and listen to the Virtual Haircut mp3.

This one looks awesome! It’s also Google Earth capture that shows some big grass field from big distance. Looking at the logo below, I presume “Cardinals” are some baseball team in Europe. Not sure though. It was done in a same way as those crop circles. Some people have need to create colossal things that can be viewed even from space. Well, not actually space, but from sky. Great China wall, Pyramids of Egypt, Maxim’s anniversary magazine cover with Eva Longoria… etc. Mike, the guy who sent this also noticed it can represent a maze in crops. Could you figure your way through it? Remember, no “first comment” spamming ;)

Just to inform you, from now on, comments similar to “first post“, “first comment” etc. won’t be approved any more. They are really pointless if you ask me. I run this site for little over a year now, but it seems it has become very, very popular lately. I also noticed people started seeing faces everywhere they look. I’m not sure is it because of our site, or something else. Newest addition was by Michael Schlegel who wants us to carefully look at the waterfall photo he sent.
Michael wrote: “You’ll see a face emerging. It requires a bit of imagination but once you see it, it becomes quite obvious. Just before I took the picture someone had told me a tale about the creek that claimed you could hear voices whispering in the creek, that the water was talking to you. I never heard the voices, but the tale made the picture a bit more eerie.” This one wasn’t very convincing, or at least I haven’t seen it. Maybe you will!

Hy guys (and gals)! Just came home from my trip to Austria (Graz), so just a quick update, so that you know I’m alive and well. I’ll write more in the evening, but here is one illusion for all your “Optical Illusion of The Day” widgets and gadgets, so they can update them selves with new optical illusion.
Illusion you see below was submitted by Fabián Vargas, and even though I’m not exactly certain, I believe it pictures a Saint. More precisely – St. Georgius, the saint that is often showed on a white horse, with a sword in his right hand, above the dragon that represents evil. In the beginning of Christianity, dragon symbolized paganism. By the legend, St. Georgius fought the dragon on the beach, outside of city walls. He killed him to protect the king’s daughter which was meant to be sacrificed to the dragon.
Who would tell that religion can be so interesting ;) In many paintings, along with St. Georgious, there was a princess pictured in the corner, while praying for her savior. All these details made me spot similarity with this painting. When you look at it, first you’ll see is a face of young man/girl, but if you look at her/his hair, you can see a person on a horse, fighting with evil dragon. I believe the big face belongs to praying princess, and the hair represents battle with the dragon. Correct me if I’m wrong…

Look carefully, there is a slingshot-shaped tree in the middle of the photo. Can you see it? Probably you’ll manage, but you’ll need few seconds to find it. I can’t believe how well nature camouflaged it. It really fits well into background, like it has chameleon’s capability to adjust tone of the skin color. What I liked here is the simplicity, and idea how illusions can be found almost anywhere around you – you just have to have a good eye to spot them. If you find similar cool photos somewhere in your collection, be sure to send them in, and if they are good enough, I’ll post them on Mighty Optical Illusions homepage. Enjoy!

Just when I discovered this new Felice Varini’s ‘anamorphic illusion’ on Wooster Collective, reader called Steve submitted me the original BBC article about this optical illusion. Steve said it’s an art illusion done on a large scale, and added: “scroll through the photo set to see what I mean”. You have to find the exact spot in this Bay barrage to see the illusion perfectly, like in the first photo below. Other photos inside this article show you how this “art installation” looks like, when viewed from other places. As I said, the piece was done by the Swiss artist Felice Varini on the Cardiff Bay barrage, and ran between March 11 and 25th. I posted much more of Varini’s performances before. Many of them like 3D painted rooms, and buildings painted in circles can be found inside our “3D Sidewalk Art” category. Also, be sure to check the Wooster Collective, since it’s very similar in topic to our little community. I even asked them that we form some kind of partnership or link exchange. Will keep you informed!
