Richard Murphy helped me remember of a mural I had intention writing more about. It is trompe-l’oeil which is at Georges V Ave. in Paris, France. Trompe-l’oeil is an art technique involving extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects really exist, instead of being just two-dimensional paintings. It is the same principle all those pavement artists like Eduardor Relero and Julian Beever are governed by. It is derived from French for “trick the eye“, from tromper (to deceive) and l’oeil (the eye). These surely prove that the site wasn’t photoshoped, like some of you thought. Yes, this is add-on to the original melting spot illusion. Richard added:

“This building is on King George V in Paris, we found it by accident on way to Champs from tower and not seen it or heard of it before, hope you can use, its an amazing site to see.”

I would also like to apologize because of the short down-time. We had some server problems, so the site was unavailable for few minutes. All is proper again. Enjoy!

Wow, as you see our number of articles per day ratio really jumped big time! Josh posted his second article, and its really scary one if I may add! I think these italic introductions by me aren’t necessary any more, they are here just to inform new visitors that we have some mighty new co-editors on this site. If you are interested to participate in this web 2.0 beta project, drop me an email, and we’ll see what we can do ;) – Vurdlak

Co-editor Josh here, with some new 3D Street Art. I love these! For those who don’t know, 3D Street Art are just like your regular footpath art (done with chalk or paint on footpaths), except they are done in such a way that they appear 3D! In this case, the shark looks like it’s really coming out of the path – Mighty Josh

Ok, this time, I bring you ‘Camouflaged Cats’, they are two different pictures of two different cats that are camouflaged. Your job is to find them. I think this one belongs in the ‘Spot the Object‘ category. Now, what really gives the first one is it’s eyes, the second one is probably because it’s fur is a bit less grayish than where it is… I think that the first cat is better camouflaged than the second one, which one do you think is better hidden? – Pablo

Meg Staggs, the submitter wrote: “I have been “reading” this optical illusions blog for a while now. It has always been an addiction of mine – thank you for filling our need for great illusions with such quality material! Three points will tell you why I love these images I sent: 1) I love Holstein cows (Black & White or White & Black), 2) I love cats of almost any kind, 3) I love camouflage illusions! First picture is a pretty good one, though fairy easy to solve, and the second is a really good one (If not for the eyes and the bottom of the paw, it would be really tricky). I hope they can be of use to you – (That is, unless you have them both already!).”

As I added in Luke’s previous post, our co-bloggers started really productive. Luke immediately composed another awesome article, containing some of the never before seen 3D pavement art photos. Read his article and check for more photos inside. There you can also find same locations, just shot from different angles. – Vurdlak

Eduardor Relero has made these amazing chalk drawings in the streets of Spain. However, this don’t look like your average Julian Beever drawings, each one could contain a hidden message about poverty or death such as “Amnesty International“, but I’m stumped for what these pictures could mean. I especially like the rich man or women holding the gun, it took me a while to see that. I also like the baby head and the skull drawings because they’re done so well! I appreciate the skull one more though, because if you look closely at the background the sun appears to be right above the drawing, but the drawing itself seems to create its own light source. How amazing is that?

Draw yourself to the article and see his brilliant creations. For now i say Muy Bien Eduardor! – Luke

Hi! I’m Luke and i am one of the new co-editors for Mighty Optical Illusions!

And because this is my first post, I’m going to start with a very shocking illusionYes, it is true. Big foot is real and i have conclusive proof in this photo.

No of course not, but it does look so, doesn’t it? How have they managed to recreate such huge footprints in the sand? [no smaller ones anywhere near?!] Is this another photoshop con? This one looks very similar to “Giant Jellyfish“. If there’s anything I’ve noticed, it does seem strange how one foot looks a bigger than the other. Step inside this article and see what others think… – Luke

As stated by him, Luke is our new (4th!) co-editor. You will be seeing his articles, among many new ones by me, and my fellow co-bloggers. All of them proved very enthusiastic, and already written many posts (in my queue for approval). – Vurdlak

You aren’t gonna believe this one, it has to be one of the best illusions this year. It took me some time to understand what Pablo Salto-Weis Azevedo (the person who sent this to me) tried to explain. Well actually, immediately I saw that the church in the second picture looks different, but then I realized what Pablo was trying to say. Believe it or not, both pictures in the frame below are identical! I have a proof inside the article (where I overlapped them). But first, lets hear the background story from Pablo:

“I am a photographer, and tonight I was editing some pictures from the Azores Islands (Portugal), when something strange happened. When you invoke the “save for web” command in Photoshop, you are presented with two versions of the same picture, on the left the original version, and on the right the optimized for the web one. Well this is what I got. I suppose you too can clearly see that the right picture looks different than the other one, church seems to be tilted to the right.

If you cut that right picture, and paste it over the left one, and play a little with the opacity so that you can see the one underneath, you’ll realize both pics are actually identical! I didn’t align the pics so that you could see both pics at the same time and clearly see that vertical lines are completely parallel!” – I say its amazing. Kinda reminds me of Pisa Tower.

Alpren is our third guest blogger that covered really magnificent piece of art for our mighty community. I would like to welcome him, as well as our previous authors, Josh and Pablo. With help from these guys and our new applicants, I believe we will start posting dozen of illusions daily. It’s just a matter of time! I’m just sorry to see that all of them, including me and our pending co-editors are guys. It would really feel natural to have some articles with “woman’s touch“, and see some gal’s apply for the “guest blogger” beta project. Don’t you agree so? Following, you can read Alperen’s article.

Hello everyone I’m Alperen and I’m one of the new co-editors of this site!!! Ok, here is the illusion. It depicts a woman playing the piano, however she herself is painted as the piano. I’ve always liked these type of illusions. You may remember some old ones like “Heidi Klum” or the “Zodiac Signs“. If thats not enough, just check out the whole Body Art category. Hope you guys like it and leave lots o’ comments! btw: you guys should check out the widgets. I have one and its very useful :) – Alperen

Hy everyone, its been a busy day for me. Co-ordinating my fellow bloggers. Still, please welcome our second pal, Pablo. I believe he has done a great job on his first post. Don’t you agree? Don’t worry you haven’t lost me, I’ll additionally continue posting my usual stuff – Vurdlak

Hello everyone! My name is Pablo, and I am a new co-editor of Mighty Optical Illusions. So from now on, I will post illusions in the site as well. Ok then, on to the illusion. This one was sent by DigitEl, it is the picture of a postcard that was resized, and that looks like it fits on the other one…Here is what DigitEl said:

“I think this one has the Illusion of being in the ‘Postcard Illusion‘ category where an image is montaged upon a scene. Here however, the montaged image is scaled down from the larger and seems to fit! Drop shadowing the edges adds the ‘postcard’ effect. Enjoy!”

I’m not sure what he meant by Postcard Illusion category, because it doesn’t exist…I’m not quite sure whether the image really fits or not, because it looks a bit awkward…what do you think? Expect more illusions from me soon! – posted by Pablo
