Look at this reference by Orange, it gives you a glimpse of a better world. I’m not sure if Orange is a telecommunications provider, or deals with something else, but obviously they tried to give us impressions that if we use their products, we can expect more enjoyable future. Who knows… At least their pavement art campaign is awesome to look at. I always admired all those 3d street illusions. I’m big fan of creative advertising, thats why you can see similar illusions posted on this site often. If you had enough of them just say so, and I’ll stop posting them so often, but something gives me impression you like it as well. Look how realistic the hole in the pavement looks – I wouldn’t be so brave stepping in the middle of it, even though I know its just a horizontal mural

Oh, concerning my previous post, if you wonder which was the first illusion ever posted on this site, the answer is – this one!

This one goes to all you football fans out there (yes, I know its called soccer in the States). I was really impressed by the outcome of these two photos sent in by Παναγιώτης Κατσαλούλης. I’m sorry man, I am almost your neighbor, living in Croatia but unfortunately I can’t read Greek, so I’ll call you Afroudakis :)

This is what Afroudakis added in his email: “Today is the final of UEFA champions league in Athens, Greece. Me and a friend of mine went there to hold the famous cup! It’s an optical illusion of course, playing with relative sizes & 2D view. I hope you will find it interesting!”

Indeed I do. It came out marvelous, just like the one with World cup sent in by Andreas from Brazil. If you like football / soccer illusions, be sure to check 32 qualified balls and Oliver Kahn Billboard! Oh, and who won?

This is getting old… still, its a nice illusion, but think we already have had bunch of similar examples. I’m posting this one to entertain our new users, but regular visitors won’t object seeing another variation of deformed face illusion. Original one posted on Mighty Illusions was Mona Lisa’s smile. Do you remember it? I’d like to find out who of you is our longest visitor? Would be cool if some of you are with us from the very first beginnings. Do you know what was the first illusion posted on this site? To find out visit March 2006 archive. You’ll find many old school illusions there. Notice how my style of writing was different back then… I was short with English vocabulary probably.. lol!

Concerning the image below, notice how it looks normal (seems there is nothing very strange about it). When you rotate it 180 degrees, you see how the abnormality becomes quite visible then. Something to do with our brain processing faces. Too scientific for my taste ;)

As he said himself, M. Shahadat Hossain (the submitter of this artwork), found it while browsing the net. It is a very interesting illustration concept of a storm, and a shipwreck in it. It looks as if there is a terrible faith awaiting these young sailors hanging from the foremast. Just move your head away from the monitor, and you’ll become aware of their destiny too. It gave me chills first time I saw it. Skulls were very popular in art few centuries ago, and carried a pretty big influence on artists today. I’m not quite sure when this illustration was created, nor who is the original author, but never the less its real masterpiece! Enjoy. Be sure to check our previous scary illusion, as well as other skull art from the archives.

Hello everyone! This time I bring you some highlighting images. They are images that you have to highlight to see other things in the same image. Be sure to open them full size first, or the effect won’t work. They were both sent in by Joel, who said: “I figured out how to do these by looking at that Emily Barcode illusion, they work in the same way. The Star Wars one becomes Obiwan when you highlight it in Internet Explorer, and the Ninja one (also highlight) is a take-off on the ninja room you posted a few days back, only this one actually has ninjas. Nine, to be exact. For it to work, you have to be looking at the full-size version of the picture. Great site, I put the illusion of the day on my Google page :)”

This Star Wars one is a bit awkward, from Emperor Palpatine to Obi wan Kenobi?! I can’t really see anything here, so I’m not sure what you’re supposed to see. Like Joel said, you need to open the full size version of the picture in IE, and highlight it to see the illusion. – Pablo

Well, Well (it’s Yerson, for another time). What an interesting location in Google Earth this is. It was sent by Nacho Bizznez, from Denver who wrote: “Found a face just outside of Area 51 with Google Earth. Interestingly, there is a very detailed face of someone.” I believe this is the best Google earth illusion I saw in my life. Look how the face curves are detailed, and how they compose a very detailed face of a man. I only think that it is little worn out. Do you agree? It looks more like a Jesus, only meaner. Or is it Hannibal Lecter, just like on DVD cover? What is your opinion? Well, I’ll let you decide for your selves. – Yerson

Peter Blair found this one yesterday on the Sun’s Viral. As you see it’s “pretty impossible” object constructed in real life. We already explained how these strange triangles work, especially good explanation can be seen through this rotational animation, but somehow I can’t find the connecting line in the dice below? If we could only rotate the picture, it would be much easier. Can someone spot where the dice “appear” to connect? Please help me with this one.

Dozen more similar and impossible constructions are categorized in impossible objects category. You can browse them all very quickly, and post your opinion on the best shape. Also, please share this illusion link on other web sites you visit…

Hello, it’s Colin the co-editor again! I’m baaacckkkkk! This time we have some cool art with many different illusions implemented inside these photos. The art pieces you see, are made by Jacek Yerka, who uses pastels and canvas to make these cool paintings. Mostly I like them because they look nice, but some of them are quite Escherian in their perspectives. Also, the strawberry tree is awesome!

Jacek writes about the selection of his pieces: “…a project is then presented to the Family Jury (my wife and 4 daughter), that in most cases issues the rejection sentence, accompanied with bitter and negligent comments. Usually such a verdict is followed by unnecessary family tension and door slamming.” How many different illusions can you spot here? If you look at the top picture, the ladder turns into a train track that goes across the landscape – Colin
