Dave Beeson spotted this funny gag on the the BBC homepage. I noticed that many good illusions come from people spotting them on BBC. Like for example Marina Apollonio’s installation and BBC’s optical illusions test. After you browsed those, you should try scrolling this page up and down, and you will see interesting effect that makes the fan near the girl spin! Yes that’s right, this is because of scintillating effect. This is what Dave wrote: “Hi, heres an optical illusion I just spotted on the BBC news website, it was an article about redheads… as I scrolled the page the fan appeared to spin… try scrolling the page … good eh?”

I got this interesting spot the object illusion in my mailbox yesterday. It is spot the object illusion, like many others, but really good. Not only do you have to spot all the faces in this tree below, you also have to guess who they represent. Since the image is called “National Leaders Tree“, I believe the faces represent leaders of the big countries like America, Russia, England, Yugoslavia etc. I think that the image is somehow old, since the faces I see in the tree’s branches aren’t really familiar. Our older visitors will have more luck guessing those, and probably teach us. However, maybe I was wrong and I got completely wrong impression of the illusion below. Is that Queen of England or Margaret Thatcher, Churchill, Tito, Stalin, or have I gone bananas? How many faces can you spot?

Here is another post by Colin, just wanted to add that I was first puzzled, why are his “badly” photoshopped photos of a dog with a blue-screen background material for this site, but then I noticed, that they aren’t artificial, instead real photos. He fooled me again… – Vurdlak

Hello! I haven’t made a post in quite a while :(, but I got inspired to do one tonight. I remembered about some old photos I took a few years back that look totally photo-shopped! It’s amazing because all these pics are totally real, and since I took them, I am sure they’re real. It’s something about the shadows, clear air, colors, and lighting that make these real-life illusions look fake! But they’re not! :) Have a wonderful, fabulous day! Summer is coming! – Colin

I believe we’ve seen similar optical illusions on this site before. However it is really awesome, if you know how to look at it! Here is what I want you to do. First cover the upper half of the picture with your palm, and you’ll automatically assume that the window corner of this building is convex (bulged out). Now try covering the lower half of the photo, and you will see the inner corner of the building (concave this time). Amazing isn’t it? Using this method you get much better experience than simply by looking at it. Some of the guys I presented this image with, couldn’t spot anything wrong before I explained them to cover half of it using their palms. I just noticed Colin made another guest post, so I’m approving it next. Enjoy! For our new visitors, please check the optical illusion widgets. You’ll be amazed what you can find there, and download it freely ;)

Danilo Rodriguez The III. sent this true optical illusion. He said: “Hey I have your site as a little widget thingy on my google/igoogle homepage, and so I figured I might as well send you this email, that was FWD’ed to me with a couple of good illusions“. There were few more in his email, like Spider Effect, Vanishing Haze, Parallel World, Disappearing Spot… etc. But I already wrote about them. Except this one below, which I never saw before. It is really awesome, but you need to know how to look at it. Ok, slowly move your nose towards the screen, almost to touch the screen, and you will notice the magic. Probably this one works best if you open it full size! By the way, I’m really glad you people liked my “random illusion” button in upper-right corner of the site ;)

You probably noticed a strange ribbon at the top of the page, in the left upper corner, that says “Random Illusion!”. Well, I think it is wonderful add-on for Mighty Optical Illusions. If you click that button, it will take you to one random illusion from our archives of over 1000 illusion articles.

What is so interesting about it, is that you never know what to expect! I couldn’t stop clicking it, and every time the page loaded, I was surprised seeing illusion I forgot I already posted :) I tried this so many times to see if some articles will re-appear twice, but I never managed. Go ahead, test it and if you get some articles re-appear twice, post in comments. I believe this add-on works in all web browsers. I tested it with Firefox and with Internet Explorer, but just in case I would appreciate if you commented your experience with different resolutions and different browsers. Also, I’m interested in your opinion, if the button is too intrusive. I believe all of you will adore it, but if for some reason many of you dislike this option, I shall remove it.

If you also use blogger platform for blogging, and want to implement “Random post” hack, you can do it easily by following these instructions (continued inside this article)…

1.) First, add the following javascript to your page’s header between head and /head tags. (Template -> Edit HTML):

Make sure to replace the _yourBlogUrl variable with your blog’s URL, and just add the following link anywhere in your page:

View Random Post

Since this uses JSON feed callbacks, you’ll need to make sure that you (at the very least) have summary feeds enabled for your blog. Many thanks goes to Janek37 for inspiring me to do this, and providing helpful tutorial.

All of these were submitted by user that wishes to remain anonymous. I can’t blame him, considering improper debates some of our “immature” users started in previous body paint comments. I wish to remind you this is art, and I just hope all of you are mature enough to understand it. Even if these models were completely naked (which they are), it would still be art. Now when we cleared this, we can start describing these illusions. If you jump inside this article (or if you came here by optical illusion of the day widgets, you are already inside the post), you will see bunch of amazing camouflage body paintings. Some models like the first one, are painted in a way to camouflage with their background, and some are professionally painted to appear they are wearing clothes. Which one do you find most amazing? I like the first one most, because I’m big fan of camouflage illusions. Enjoy, and please share the link! You can also visit body paint category for more…

Riju Dasgupta noticed: “Dear Vurdlak, I noticed that your “Stereograms” section didn’t have many entries, and the ones there are just pictures. Well I went surfing to find you one, and I picked one of the better ones. They are also called Magic Eye, as you’ve posted before. I’m sure I don’t need to explain how to view them. Best of luck, and I hope this site becomes the premier O.I. site in the world!”

I got two comments for you Riju, first and most important one, Mighty Optical Illusions already is biggest, most visited optical illusion database on the internet :) Concerning the stereograms, I love them too, but never manage to see the hidden meaning. This is why almost all illusions inside “sterograms category” are 3D pictures, and not true stereograms. I somehow never had luck viewing them. I read somewhere, that if you are paranoid or something, you have trouble viewing them. Guess I’m one of those sickos! Anyone found hidden meaning in this Infinity Magic Eye? Don’t forget to open the image in full size! Credit goes to Gary W. Priester for creating this.
