“Oldboy” Optical Illusion

When I receive exactly the same optical illusion from different people in very short timeframe, it usually means this particular item has recently become viral around the net. Illusions such as “Whose hugging whom?“, “What’s with them Legs?” and today’s photo are perfect example of viral illusory photos. Check out the oldboy in the below photo? Can you see why is this an illusion? Be careful though – once you see it there’s no going back!

  1. I think i saw it.The baby’s face is a bit to the side wearing glasses. The nose and the mouth that we see here, are fathers.Get very close and look the difference on their color skin.Childs body colour is wthites

    1. you’re right the babies face is on the side with the glasses. I had to look very closely but then when i got farther from the screen I was still able to see it.good observing.

    1. No, I don’t think it’s photoshopped. The child’s head is in a special posistion.

    2. I thought it was shopped at first because i couldnt figure out where the kids head could be going behind the mans lol.. but then you see it for what it is- the darker bit IS the kids head!

The guy is the lighter bit sticking out from behind- it just looks like the shadowed kids head is just shadow on his face- if you block of the mans lighter face bit with your fingers you can see how the kids face is angled better.

    3. No, I don’t think so. I think the child’s face is on top and the man’s face is at the back. But it looks like one face.

    4. No. The kid’s head is there, but his face is turned away from the camera. He’s the one wearing the sunglasses. The father’s nose, mouth and chin are visible, but the rest of his head is behind the kid’s head. As a result, it’s hard to see where the father’s head ends and the kid’s head begins.

  2. It looks so much like the man is wearing the glasses! But it’s just his nose, mouth and chin showing! You can’t pose for that pic!

  3. I think the kid is the one wearing the sunglasses. The father is the one to his left, only showing his nose, mouth and chin.

  4. The adult is holding the kid in such a way that their faces kind of meld together. The kid’s face is turned toward the adult’s just enough so (almost) all you’re seeing of his face is the sunglasses. The nose and mouth you see are the adult’s.

  5. I like these photo illusions, all I can think of though is that terrible looking sunburn, going to cause some pain later!

  6. It has to be photoshopped. If not, I need to see why it isn’t – a solution. The faces blend in so smoothly, and I don’t think there’s enough space for two faces to achieve this illusion without digital help.

  7. I agree with @tourout. If you get up close you can see the profile of the childs face, the nose and mouth belong to the man holding him.

  8. Now that one is impressive…

Not a fake, just a very strange positioning for the picture. Give-away is to study the line coming down to the left of the nose and follow the discoloration.

  9. Oh, but of course! The kid is smiling too. If you look closely to the face of the illusion, even looks like he’s wearing a mask!

  10. Thanks Tourout. I couldn’t see it for the longest time until I read your comment. Now I can see it immediately. Too funny

  11. I don’t think it’s Photoshopped unless maybe just part of the nostril. The lighting and shadows are “just right”

The dad’s face has slightly redder tones and the boy’s face seems to be angled just right.

    Pretty cool.

  12. wow, this is a great one. Couldn’t see what was going on until i read the first comment. And don’t worry, now I know I can still see the old boy.

  13. Yeah got it. The father is in profile and it’s his nose mouth and chin. The kid is turned away staring and the fathers nose so you cannot see his features. The shadow of the hat disguises the differences in skin tone.

  14. I think it’s photoshopped. The angle of the glasses is totally off when it would be on the toddler’s face. It would be impossible to see it there though if it was on the father’s face, which it really seems to be. So for me a good illusion created by a creative photoshopper

    1. I agree with you. If it were a real photo, the kids sunglasses would not be angled as if the kid is looking forward (rather than looking at the father) and also the kids right ear would not be at that angle either.

  15. I certainly HOPE this is photoshopped. Because if it isn’t….some poor little boy had his head cut off in order to make this picture. There’s no other way to do it.

  16. Yeah, DEFINATELY photoshopped. Didn’t need to do much. They simply removed the little boy’s nose and mouth.
