Lisa Simpson’s Impossible Object

I see that TV animated series, The Simpsons quite often present us quite cool optical illusions. This time Lisa Simpson discovered pretty strange object. Emily, reader who submitted this one, said: “Hi, not sure if you’ve gotten this one yet…In the Simpsons episode Treehouse of Horror VIII, the Simpson family is looking around a nerd’s garage sale, and Lisa picks up an “impossible object” for sale, while saying “If I were a nerd, I’d be in heaven!” I snapped a picture, and I think it turned out ok.” Am not sure if you noticed, but this object is EXACTLY the same as we asked you to construct with Instructions From Hell. Maybe Homer used a computer and saw our site. I wouldn’t be surprised if he somehow managed to put this Escher inspired object together. Who knows… ;)

    1. uhhh no you didn’t.

Also this object was not originally from the Simpsons. I’m not sure where, but I saw it long before the show existed.

  1. wow this site is starting to become a joke, can you put REAL illusions on here? instead of all this cartoon crap? I mean serious, how about I draw a bunch of squigglies and submit it as an illusion.

  2. Hi Emmie!!!!!!! thats totally awesomnie :):):):):):):):):):):):):) especially the $12 thing :P blah :):):) this is ur best friend, if you couldnt tell :):):)k, byee!!!

  3. I found out there is another frequent reader called ~~*NIQUE*~~
who reads this forum, my middle name is Nique. I just wanted to know if ~~*NIQUE*~~ is this persons first name or what. ~~*NIQUE*~~ blog this page to answer.

  4. Hey hey hey everybody. I just thought that I’d say….that this image would make a lot more sense if it wasn’t the same color as the table. If you try to copy the image and then change the color of the table, you’ll see that the illusion will make a lot more sense.

  5. ya know, I think this might be possible to constuct this… if you figure out the boundries- where it starts and where it ends… i’ll try to build this and send a picture! ;)

  6. Not like anybody is gonna read this after soo long, but that impossible object is NOT lisa simpson’s. they borrowed it from the very well known M.C. Escher optical illusion artist. If ye take the time an look up some of his artistry, he has created a massive amount of illusions, including this as one of his original designs.

  7. I totally love that episode! I am a huge Simpsons fan. My sister got nightmares from this episode. We have it on DVD. It’s on the 9th season. Professor Frink is having a garage sale and Lisa finds the object there. Eventually they buy a Matter Teleporter which costs two bucks. Pure hilarity (and horror).

  8. This object is just really one piece.
Notice on both, this one and the original[Intrsuctions from hell], the background are the same color from the object. Making this thing impossible to make.
If someone actually makes it they’ll be a freakin’ genius.

  9. That is impossible. I mean, the shape’s 3D isn’t it? If you followed the shape, it turns into the table. It’s awesome!

  10. I first saw this illusion in Mad Magazine m-a-a-any years ago. It was called a ‘piyute’.
    Don’t ask how I remember…must be mad.
