Just received this beautiful picture from some guy in my mailbox. It’s not hard to spot the illusion, but more interesting is the author’s ability to morph two different views. Look how natural and smooth the gentleman’s figure was added to this sea view! I like this sort of illusions, since they show the artistic touch, that most illusion artists have. Along with the illusion, I received this letter:

“There was an old picture sitting on my hard drive. And today I realized it’s a nice illusion too. Oh, really like your site, and I added it to both facebook and my personal Google page, and mostly I check through iGoogle.” – Suwen

Ok whats going on with the daily illusions, the recent ones have been pretty lame.

  2. Luis Gerardo says:

At last a cool illusion, but as the first comment states, the recent illusions have been not cool at all.

  3. Diana says:

I thought it was just me! No offense, but I concur as well…

I find it kind of funny that the vanishing point in the picture is right around the area of the mans penis. Just saying…

    il·lu·sion /ɪˈluʒən/
    –noun

    1. something that deceives by producing a false or misleading impression of reality.

    2. the state or condition of being deceived; misapprehension.

    3. an instance of being deceived.

    4. Psychology. a perception, as of visual stimuli (optical illusion), that represents what is perceived in a way different from the way it is in reality.

See above definiton, specifically #4. I’d still consider this an illusion, a cool one at that. As Vurdlak posted, it’s got an artistic touch. Although, yeah, I’d agree with Anon. and Luis that the more recent illusions have been a little lame.

I like the way the clouds are textured, making it look like hair!

  9. Marc says:

    It looks a bit like Magritte’s paintings…

is it just me,or theres somewhere in the sea that looks like a random eye?

I really like most of this illusion, as its a beautiful picture, but I wish the man wasn’t wearing shoes. Even though I want to look at the sea, I keep getting drawn to the contrast of the white walkway and the brown shoe. His other leg (where the shoe isn’t noticeable) allows the viewer to easily focus on the seascape…which then makes it a really nice illusion. :-)

I really liked this illusion when I saw the upper body – the lower portion just doesn’t work so well – it’s more of a super-imposed image over the steps rather then shaping a body out of cracks and ridges the in walkway – the shoe is the one main thing that is bugging me haha.
but REALLY love the top half :)

    “Marc said…
    It looks a bit like Magritte’s paintings…”

I’m on the same wavelength, only I was thinking Dali.

But it is more surrealist art than optical illusion I would say…though the line does blur…

This was made by Salvatore Dali, and it’s realy great jut like most of his pictures…

Agree with #1. May be we got used to see lot of creations, might need to be a great one to impress us!

  16. Vurdlak :P says:

O.K. First comment person is kind of right. Everybody SUBMIT GOOD ILLUSIONS!!!!!!!

  17. Anonymous says:

it does kind of look like a mans face is hidden in the clouds!

  18. Chris says:

I think that was a cover to a book I read, but I can’t find it!

Another minor illusion in there. When I first looked at the thunbnail, it looked like the guy was walking towards a beach, when he is actualy walking towards a city. The efect is kind of lost now that I know what it realy is, though.

  20. Anonymous says:

yes anonymous i see the eye in the sea too.

  21. Tristan says:

For me, the legs spoil it. If they’d been somehow incorporated as cracks in the steps or something, it would be more satisfying.
But I like this site. We can see a variety of illusions, and many people seem to like this one more than I do, so it’s got its value!

While i agree some of the recent ones have been lame, I commend the site for 1) overall having great illusions and 2) for putting up peoples comments even when they are not favorable to the site. Takes balls.

  26. Surreal_Koala says:

    The painting is called:

    Descent to the Mediterreanean

and it is by Vladimir Kush.

I don’t think I am allowed to post a link here. But just google his name and his web site come up.

I agree it isn’t a great illusion, but it great surrealistic art!
