The Devil Is Near

Reader who goes by initials Luz T.M. sent me this. The effect probably wouldn’t be so effective without it’s original title. Only when I saw the title of his email (same title this article has), was I able to see the illusion. And I think it’s great! Can you see the devil hiding behind the cloud? I definitely can! In fact, now I can’t stop seeing him. Am I possessed? Sure hope not! Another thing that I noticed: is that sun eclipse we are seeing that gives devil horns effect, or is it rather a Moon? In my opinion it couldn’t be so big and evil Moon. Or could it? Well let me grab a sandwich, and we can have a discussion through comments. If you want to see some more devil appearances, be sure to check WTC Devil, as well as Aphex Twin’s Devil optical illusion. This photo was originally taken by Peter Wienerroither, visit his page for more cool photos! Peter said: “It was an eclipse of the sun in May 2003, photographed near Vienna/Austria. And this glorious moment didn’t have anything devilish – quite the contrary was true.”

  1. thats really cool! Its a solar eclipse during either a sunset or sunrise. Great photo!! And even better title! w00t

  2. Love the irony of the church in the forground too! The devil looming over the house of god…

    Descartes, anyone?

  3. That is really strange, and yet totally awesome. I would hate to see that over my house! It has kind of made me feel creeped out.

  4. @courtney…

please grow up… who cares if you’re first or last? is this a race? will you get a price?

    sheesh… mature a little

  5. @ courtney:
don’t worry about them, they’re just jealous because they haven’t been first before and they woke up really early this morning to try and get first but couldn’t.
    The picture’s really cool btw

  6. I don’t think it can be a moon we’re seeing, because the very warm color comes from the fact the light is going through more atmoshpere than usual… It also lessens the light intensity (ever noticed you could look at the sun when it’s going down ?), so I don’t think a moonlight would make it down to the ground…
    Partial solar eclips I’d say…

  7. @ #6 (anonymous)

you’re realy a bitch/SOB she was prob just saying it she prob dosn’t care that much that she is first. and wtf does “will you get a price?” mean?

–o and i don’t see the devil i only see the horns

  8. hey maybe im confused, BUT… if the moon was in front of the sun, wouldnt that make an eclipse anyway?
    cool pic, btw

  9. It is a cool picture I agree. But what is with all the whinny people who are making front of the girl who is first? Everyone needs to get a life you cranky bastards.. LOL And what is there to be scared of? This is a picture only, not the Devil him/herself? Being gender correct thats all. LOL

  10. @ number 6

don’t you think it immature be so jealous of courtney to talk her down.. to me it sounds like your 14 years old trying to sound older…hun it’s not working… so in your own words “please grow up”

  14. It is sun in front of the moon!
The moon in front of the sun is not possible because it would be to much light allready- you would need special glasses to watch it.

  15. #32, It isn’t the sun in front of the moon, the object in front is dark and, as I hope you’ve noticed, the sun is quite bright. It looks pretty clearly like a solar eclipse where the moon is passing in front of the sun making the crescent shape. And you should wear special glasses to view a solar eclipse, but that doesn’t mean you can’t photograph one.

  16. i actually thot they were eyes, not horns, i wuz reading dracula and it reminded me of something they said about red eyes in the sunset. really good tho!

  17. thats sweet and i saw thi spic on the day of halloween even sweeter and i love how people go to church dressed as the devil at my church

  18. …Reminds me of Oogie Boogie from Nightmare Before Christmas.

“I am the shadow of the moon at night,
Filling your dreams to the brim of fright~!”
