Here’s an interesting approach to original Lilac Chaser illusion, invented many years ago… Wait for the animation to load, and concentrate on the center dot for a minute or so. Normally the skulls are disappearing in a clock-wise direction, but if you manage to stay still and concentrated, you will experience an afterimage of the rotating skull in places (where there shouldn’t be any). Hope you understood all this babling.

Originally I got this optical illusion from here, and have to admit: I was forced to crop the above and below embedded letters. Sorry dear fellow webmaster, hope you don’t take it against me – it’s just that the letters were too big and spammy for the illusion to be useful anywhere elsewhere than on its original website.

I couldn’t resist posting this one, after I first saw it yesterday! The image below is part of the Motivational Posters subculture, subtitled “When you see it, you’ll sh*t bricks”. Good thing about it, is its strong connection with a certain optical illusion phenomenon. So before you check some hints (at the end of this paragraph), try spotting the illusion yourself first. Scary Golfer Optical Illusion

I’ve modified the original caption used with this image to be more appropriate for our audience. The original said something like: “When you see it, you will SH*T bricks“. If you are well introduced in Internet subculture, you will quickly recognize the previous line is heavily used within those motivational posters (link). This is where I found this optical illusion in the first place. Anyhow, something terrifying is well hidden inside this photo below. Can you see it? BTW, I believe this was photoshopped – but still makes a nice post!

Matchstick Men Optical Illusion

I heard some advices how I should develop “Optical Illusion of The Day” app for iPhone/iPod Touch. Are you kidding me? We already did this :) It was our main news months ago. If you look a little bit closer (just below the header), you may even notice the “iphone app” link. Now that we concluded this little misunderstanding, let’s check today’s art installation:

This photograph came along with no accompanying description. I can’t tell you who the author is, nor when was this taken. But what I can tell you, is that the shown artwork greatly resembles Tim Noble and Sue Webster’s “Shadow Sculptures“. My next guess would be that the author behind them was Kumi Yamashita. If you have more info, be nice and share. Hope that this illusion wasn’t too scary – it’s just garbage on a stick, after all.

Mati Suri Poster Illusion

Seeing optical illusion in this “new” poster for Mati Suri movie, shouldn’t be too hard. It works in the same way Premonition poster did, only there are skulls (again). If you want to know how the blog migration is going, well… I have exported all the posts, and 33,000 comments so far (22,000 more). My main concern is what will happen with new Wordpress feed when I add it to Feedburner’s one. How different will the code be? I’m not sure how I’ll get it to work with my widgets. Any pro out there that could help me? Is it possible in Wordpress to edit the built in feed code? So many questions, so little connections. About yesterday’s illusion, I managed to find the wolf’s head. The nose is located just next to the Indian’s right shoulder, and the eyes can be found half an inch above his head (both lef, and right). For the embedded eagles, I’m still not sure.

Few of you will remember that we had something very similar two years ago. Probably you won’t be satisfied with the fact that so many similar optical illusions are often posted to this site. Please bear in mind that as this community grows, we get more and more regular visitors that never saw our archives. This is why I regularly introduce them to some of the similar stuff from the past, but never exactly the same. But hey… at least you get fresh reading material each day (not that I’m much of a writer, though). In this photo Israel’s Irina Risenzon competes in the individual all-around final of the rhythmic gymnastics at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing on August 23, 2008. During her performance, somehow she lost her head. Can you find it? I guarantee you that this image wasn’t manipulated.

Swine Flu Optical Illusion

I tried to migrate Mighty Optical Illusions over to wordpress yesterday, but all I got was some mysterious error message. Then I figured out how to export posts from blogger via RSS, but this would leave me without proper comments migration solution. So I’m stuck until Wordpress fixes the Blogger import feature, and till I figure out how to keep the exact same article item links. If anyone has some sort of an idea, please share. In the mean time, we can all together enjoy this delicious pork optical illusion. How appropriate, just in time of this horrible swine flu that’s ravaging the world. I’m still not clear what to think of it – is it to become super mega cataclysmic, or is it exaggerated like mad cow disease, and bird flu were? What do you think? Anyhow, try rotating the barbecued pork image on your left. You will end up with an example that can also be seen in the lower right corner, inside this article… Wow!

Can you see the horrible looking face of the cook? Is this how the swine flu would look like in person? Am not sure, but I believe that Giuseppe Arcimboldo was ahead of his time, when he painted this. If you don’t remember the author, he was the one who originally painted those fruit people. Have a look if you forgot. I think this optical illusion well deserves to be categorized as “Scary”. What is your opinnion? Reading all your comments is slowly becoming more and more interesting. See you tomorrow, when I hopefully make some progress regarding the migration. Am just not sure where to find good wordpress theme designer. Know one?

True Blood, Last Crusade, and Some other Posters

For all you fans of True Blood out there, I have a little teaser for you for the upcoming second season of the HBO hit vampire show. The teaser comes in the form of a new poster for the new season which of course features a blood spill pattern, the show’s trademark image. Pay special attention though, as the poster is much more than that. At first glance, you may just see the blood but if you focus, you’ll see the silhouette of a vampire about to feed from some poor lady’s neck. This concept is based off the famous Rubin’s Face, a famous optical illusion that allows for two completely separate interpretations of the same image. When you enter the article, you’ll see another example in the form of redesigned movie poster for Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. Which one did you like better? Romantic Halloween Optical Illusion

As one sees the beautiful rose climbing the window ledge on a typical neighborhood house, he thinks to himself. “What a romantic scene“. Suddenly, a horrific strange noise breaks the silence, and the observer quickly understands that the noise is coming from inside the house. What did just happen? Until now, he wasn’t even aware that he was the only one in the neighborhood, standing in front of the house. Why did everyone avoid this part of the neighborhood? Just as he was about to turn his back to the house, someone pulled him from behind whispering: “bad things happen to the nosy observers“, and then he felt a strong hit landing at the back of his head. As he was about to loose consciousness, last thing he noticed was a horrific detail that made the scene not so idle anymore. Can you continue this story? What did the observer last notice, that scared the living hell out of him?

Terminator 4: Salvation Optical Illusion

I have received two submissions of the new Terminator Salvation movie poster. While the second submitter (David Kossin) sent me the photo you see on the left, even more interesting submission was made by Adnan Mansr over 2 months ago. I can’t believe how it managed to slip through my approval list back then. Hope the justice has been made to both of you, and that our audience will love these. You can see the flash animation after the jump (inside this article, if you’re reading this of the main page). The only problem is that the animation is 3 MB big, so it may take few minutes for it to load if you are behind a slower connection. The illusion itself doesn’t need much explaining. I bet 99% of you are already familiar with Terminator figure, originally acted by Arnold Schwarzenegger. The aerial photo pictures Los Angeles in the near future, but what is more interesting, is it’s resemblance with the face of Terminator. Please comment your experience with loading of the animation inside.
