Merlijn S.V.P. was kind enough to submit us this simple, yet effective illusion. Can you count how many columns (pillars) this building has? Which ones are infront, and which are behind? It’s hard to decide, right? This work was obviously inspired be M.C. Escher, maybe even done by him, as far as I know. Did [...]

Peter van Munster sent me this picture yesterday. As you see it’s another impossible object. Colud you construct this thing in real life? Peter wrote: “Hi, I stumbled upon your website and I enjoy it very much. I even have a submission for your Impossible Objects section. It’s a variant on the impossible triangle, this [...]

Shiv Bansal submitted this unusual optical illusion. As you might have noticed, we are always trying to move the boundaries in this wonderfull world of visual phenomena – and this illusion is a perfect case. Here’s how Shiv explained it:

Peter Hosey just sent in this FoxTrot Comic. It’s funny referrence to Impossible objects and optical illusions. Thanks! Peter wrote: “It’s the FoxTrot strip for 2006-07-05.”

Light shining into the pool creates a mirror on the underside of [...]

This video clip is called “Charlie Chaplin’s Hollow Face“, and has been circulating the web for some time now. The principle is the same as Einstein’s Hollow Face, Bjorn [...]

Please do me a favour and turn off the CO2 flowmeter. I tried but didn’t manage to find the right button. Really funny illusion, if you ask me.

4D Hypercube Optical Illusion

Ok, we both know this isn’t a real 4D Cube (also known as Hypercube). Never the less, this animation really blew me when I first glazed my eyes on it. If you are interested more in mathematics behind 4D spaces, be sure to browse Wikipedia. In the meantime, enjoy!
