This is why there hasn’t been any updates for the last two days. My deepest apologies.

Anyhow, recently I’ve noticed hysteria among chicks over this vampire saga called Twilight. My girlfriend read them books couple of times, and even forced me to watch actual movie with her. I would be lying if I didn’t say I was bored at best. Don’t know, I simply see it as ordinary vampire move redefined to suit women, but then again – I could be wrong.

Still, if there are any fans of the movie out there, I’ve received these two optical illusions of main actor – Robert Pattinson, so hope you enjoy them!

First one on the right is simple afterimage (if you don’t know how afterimages work, read this first). It works best if you switch your view to blank white screen, after burning the negative image in your retina. Perpetual blinking helps additionally. This one worked great for me! Few more afterimage illusions can be found here.

The second illusion of Robert Pettinson (on your left), is a simple photograph caught in the right moment. When I first saw it, I got impression this dude is wearing some kind of tennis hat and has really alien-ish head anatomy. When you take a closer look, you’ll quickly realize there is actually another person standing behind him.

There, I believe these two illusions weren’t the best ones available, but still we can’t have Greatest Illusions each day. Can we? Btw. check this promotion of Fight Club, done for the 10th anniversary. It will show you the power of Facebook Connect!

If there is any particular topic I receive record number of submissions for (more than cloud formations) – it would be “Jesus”. It appears people see Jesus everywhere. But if you think our savior returned by burning himself into your toast, that doesn’t automatically qualify it as regular optical illusion.

Still, some of these submissions DO qualify for Mighty Optical Illusions‘ “picture of the day”. For example, I have included three of them into this post. The third illusion is somehow unsafe (so I included it as link only). It still makes a nice resemblance, though. If you’re easily offended, please don’t click this link. The second one can be seen on your right. I like how the author made every part of the painting have double function; ie. “Big Jesus’s” eye can also represent a cloth hanging from the cross, torso of the Jesus on the cross may be seen as a nose of the Big Jesus as well, etc… Only thing I’m not really sure about is the left mustache of the Big Jesus. What does it represent on the small Jesus? Please help me.

Another interesting photo was submitted by Stals. He wrote the full background, so let’s give him opportunity him explain it: “First off Let me give you a little background about this image. I live in Northeast Philadelphia. My mom’s house is on the 4100 block of Hellerman Street in the Mayfair section. When I was 13 years old, a local phenomenon happened! Two blocks from my house a tree had been recently trimmed by city workers to get the branches away from the telephone wires and other wires in the area. One night someone noticed that as the streetlight came on you could see a clear image of Jesus hanging from the cross! It isn’t there any more unfortunately. The sight brought people from all over the world and blocked off the block. The local people on the block decided it was best to have the tree trimmed again to eliminate the illusion. This was Sterling streets claim to fame. They even made headlines on MTV news! That was pretty exciting to a 13 year old. What do you guys think? There were thousands of pictures sold and thousands upon thousands came to see it. It’s a shame that it’s all but forgotten now.”

When the ship starts sinking, all the rats leave it. Same thing happened to my country (Croatia) today. Economic crisis, politic affairs and all sort of bad things came upon us one after another. Recognizing he can’t handle the situation any more, our prime minister resigned. Our government has fallen today, and all this couldn’t happen in worse moment.

Motivated by all this breaking news I’ve been listening to all day, I decided to post something Obama related. At least to give myself a hope for better future. I realize Barack isn’t a Superman, nor anything near a heroic savior United States hoped for, but you have to admit his figure was represented as hope for US, like nothing else was.

I’ll keep monitoring how things evolve in the following days. In the mean time here are some afterimage optical illusions for you to play with. If you aren’t familiar with afterimage illusions, you should check this category first. Its very simple – all you have to do is stare at the center of these images (for a minute or so), and afterward switch your view to some blank, white surface. White wall, or piece of paper should be more than fine. After few seconds, negative image should appear, enabling you to see what was hidden inside those afterimages. If you can’t see it clearly, repeat the procedure, or simply blink repeatedly and the results should appear more sharply.

This post was guest blogged by Vernon Southward of Macro Photography. If you would like to have your article appear on Mighty Optical Illusions as well, feel free to contact us.

Many people in fashion look for clothing items that will make them look thinner. Example dress that Victoria Beckham wore recently (on some sort of event) has an illusion feeling that makes her look EVEN thinner (as paradox as this sounds). Her dress was designed by a designer called Alexander McQueen, and was originally featured in Daily Mail, a British newspaper agency. This is a cleaver yet simple trick that uses black and white lines to create the illusion, which is effective at giving the wearer the look of having a minuscule waist. It works because of the white silhouette that runs down the middle being very thin and then pops out at the hips and breasts.

Pattern you see on your left is another great sample that makes your eyes think something is happening when in reality, it isn’t. The way the lines/dots are placed on here make it look like two different things are happening. First it looks like the lines are moving in a downward spiral. The illusion also makes it look like that downward spiral goes on forever. These used to be very popular in the past, and could be seen everywhere. Now they are something that is just enjoyed by a choice group of people. As you know from your experience, optical illusions come in many different shapes, sizes and designs. Another great example of a different type of patterns can be seen in a thumbnail on your right. The vertical lines in this illusion make it look like the horizontal lines are different in sizes, it is also this way because the vertical lines are going towards different directions in each horizontal line. Another thing; it also makes them look like they are wavy. If you look at this example long enough, the lines will appear they are moving. I hope you liked this post. Would appreciate to hear your comments! What other topic would you like to see covered on this site? How about optical illusions used in Hollywood movies? Top audio optical illusions?

Found these two interesting art creations recently, and was little puzzled who do they represent. I had my doubts that the second one represents Mother Theresa, but was completely unaware who is the person pictured in the first example. Only later did I realize I could actually see the answers in the name of the picture files themselves! I understand the logic connecting Mother Theresa and multiple crosses, but can someone explain me the connection between Malcolm X and the moon and the stars? Muslim religion? Would like to know more, and hope you won’t find me completely uneducated because of it!

What I just noticed when I opened my website, and checked the previous Don Quixote illusion, is that there was a hidden Easter egg for all of us! Check out the shield next to the soldier’s left foot. Can you see a reference to the Vase Faces illusion we already published? I felt really smart when I discovered this! Now on to our next article – How big should your canvas be? How about 2.5 acres of ground! This is exactly how much was used to create a gigantic Barack Obama portrait. Piece you are seeing bellow is called “Expectations”, and the artist behind this sand art is Jorge Rodrigues Gerada. The outsize scale of Expectation also allowed the artist to allude to the global impact of this election. For people around the world, the symbolic power of an Obama presidency would be without precedent in modern history. Seems like Obamas are jumping behind each corner, as of lately. – Link via: Scene 360

Although, by seeing below image, most of you will almost instantly recognize Donald Duck, I’m sorry to tell you he was the only one who missed the party. Don’t know the reason, but even his Shadow was present. Perhaps he was aware that we can see him in an illusionary way, so didn’t bother visiting. Person who submitted this, Johan ten Hove has said he planned to send this optical illusion for a long time, but only recently did. As many of you do, Johan additionally thanked me for a “great website“. I appreciate all such comments, and they give me motivation and strength to continue doing my job efficiently. So stay tuned! BTW, I’m fixing some design errors on the site, so check if it looks better in IE, and Chrome now. Any suggestions?

Well I have underlined, and linked all the related keywords within this text, and connected them with related Albert Einstein illusions from the past. If you have a moment to spare, be sure you check them all. I’m sure you’ll have an interesting experience. Can you find it yourself? If you have trouble seeing it, be sure to open the image in full size. Btw, some of you complained how you stopped seeing new illusions inside your “My Yahoo” homepage, since we added the little “digg” button. I have temporary removed it, so please comment if the problem still exists.

Before you start complaining, let me just say this first – This isn’t an optical illusion! Hah, 1st comment! My aunt sent me this photo, and I found it quite interesting. Assignment she gave me was to recognize more than 100 famous people through history inside it. Email I received stated that if you recognize more than 25, you can consider yourself well educated and cultural person. I have recognized around 30 of them, but never considered my self much of an expert in general culture field. Unfortunately, the artist forgot to include my portrait in his artwork, but maybe some of you are famous enough to take part in it. Who knows! Let’s try to recognize them all together! Please no more than 5 answers per post. I’ll start with some dictators: Stalin, Lenin, Fidel Castro, Mao Zedong, Saddam… be sure to open the picture in new window, to see it in full size.
