Probably while browsing the Net (The Telegraph, to be more precise), Tom Jackson discovered this odd photograph. It depicts John Daly turning up to a photocall of former champions, wearing a multi-colored suit jacket. But what grabbed Tom’s attention wasn’t Daly. He noticed how the two old guys seen in the photo appear to share suits. Is it some kind of Siamese optical illusion suite, like Tom suggested, or was it an accidental optical illusion instead?

If we play a little, and practice media-manipulation strategy (something we already covered here), we can crop the photo and present it in a way that suits us better. For example, when you look at the slice posted on your right there shouldn’t be anything strange with old gentleman’s suit. But when you’re presented with the whole picture (below), after a little inspection, you’ll quickly realize how the suit belongs to another gentleman (one turning his back to the camera). What I find even more interesting, is when you solely observe the photo below, you easily manage to see the suit belonging to both guys at the same time. Now how’s this for an illusion?

    Awesome.Just plain “AWESOME”!

  9. Slammer says:

Very impressive. Although it’s nothing “new” (so hard to find any “new” illusions that aren’t just a modification of an existing one) it’s very unique, made even more so by the fact that it wasn’t staged or rigged or planned to look like that. Just a lucky shot in the right place at the right time. Very cool.

If you crop the photo so you only see the left facing “twin”, it looks (at first) like the suit is actually all his. Very nice.

However, I think the illusion would be better without Daly in the photo, since his jacket draws the eye away from the illusion.

    haha thats funny

  12. Mary Beth says:

WHOA!!! that one got me. great illusion!!

  13. Karan says:

OMG!! This is crazy. I opened this thread expecting something about the jacket. I even started what would the illusion be just by observing the multi-colored jacket for a while.

But when I read the description. It was all together a different story.

    Nice Find!

  14. I focused on the left man’s pretty suit.

  15. Fred says:

You got me on this one, despite the title giving the illusion away. I was looking at the man with the flowered jacket in the top picture trying to figure out what the illusion was and never gave the gentleman on the right a second glance. One glimpse of the lower picture and I got it. This one is a good example of not seeing the entire picture.

  16. Genie says:

    Haha, that’s way cool!

  17. Barbara Barron says:

It just took a split second in time, a fraction of a second out one way or the other and the illusion would not work. It couldn’t have been deliberately worked out better.

  18. Jess says:

    fantastic illusion

  19. Carina says:

Once I got my eyes off the blond mans jacket (whoa there…) I saw an awesome illusion :)

  20. Sean says:

The guy with his back facing the camera is standing in front of the other guy.

  21. u bum says:

    dont really get it

  22. Peter says:

Strange though how the first guy’s arm bends backwards at the elbow – How’s that for double jointed!!

  23. Philippe says:

That makes me think of Moebius..

  24. Jesica says:

sorrrt but its way to confusin for me

  25. Pyc says:

what amazed me is the left arm of the man turning his back to the camera. it seams to be fired like a weapon ! what ? it’s not is own arm ? is this an optical illusion ?

  26. Mel says:

Fail illusion… you must be running out.

  27. Dolphin says:

    Cool!I love it!

  28. SnowBerey says:

    lucky shot….

  29. ohmygosh says:

    nice illusion!

  30. tony says:

Haha – great – the ghastly suit grabs your attention so much, that you don’t realise that it isn’t the old guys arms behind his back at all!

  31. ebbhyen says:

At first, at a glance, I thought the illusion was John Daly didn’t have a right arm.

  32. Jonny says:

well there is a minute of my life I wont get back… that is a truly terrible terrible ‘illusion’ I give up…
