What you see below at first glance looks like a winged divine horse from Greek mythology, more precisely – Pegasus. However, our intuition tells us this possibility is hardly possible. In fact, this funny-looking mutation of antelope and bird is actually a clever optical illusion. So what did originally happen? The animal stumbled upon the bird’s nest and had quickly been shooed away by the protective mother. The bird in question here is an Indian Sarus Crane, the tallest flying bird in the world. Luckily there were some visitors at the Keoladeo National Park (Rajasthan, India), who noticed the animals appeared to blend in to one, and took the photo we now share! BTW, the author has just been identified and his name is Jagdeep Rajput.

  9. John says:

Had to look twice. That must be one huge bird to appear that large behind the antelope.

  10. JoAnna says:

If only they could have moved a little to the left. It would have been better. At this angle you can see the bird’s body so its not a true optical illusion.

For all of you that are critical of this picture, remember, this picture was not set up in a studio. It was an “accidental moment,” and because of that, it’s a great picture!

  25. Rick says:

C’MON NOW !! surely u can c those wings don’t emerge from the antelopes back..and it looks more like there emerging from his behind..besides that it TOTALLY DOES NOT look like pegasus. It looks more like a bird or crane behind the antelope.

  26. lucy says:

That is amazing!! But doesnt a pegasus mean half horse half mythical creature?? Lol, its still amazing as could be!! I wonder who captures these wonderful moments!!

  27. Lol says:

For starters a pegasus is a flying horses.
and you can also tell that there is a bird behind it so it doesnt make for the best illusion.

  28. Fred says:

Looks cool. Circumstances obvious after first glance.

  29. Z2d4th says:

  30. Joshua says:

WOW! It must have been a big bird and quite a silly horse.

  31. Joshua says:

    Who else loves it?

  32. proudmommy777 says:

Hysterical how the animals have been described as a cow or a horse and an eagle.

But, I do like the illusion. When I first glanced at it, I thought it was a painting since I have an “Art of the Day” gadget on my homepage. Took me two full days of glancing at it, once in a while, to realize what it was.

  33. Brad says:

    Very nice :)

  34. Birdplane says:

it also looks like the bird’s beak is piercing the antelope’s neck.

  35. Dolphin says:

  36. bee says:
