Yellow Liliac Chaser IllusionExcept writing entirely about optical illusions, you may have noticed that sometimes I share my reflections on every day life as well. Few posts ago I shared my view on similar flicks that hit the cinemas, and when the Americans were deciding who their new leader shall be, I did the same. Does this bother you? If I find some open source scripts to add polls to my posts, I’ll gladly do so. I’d really love to hear what you think about this. Unfortunately all of the free voting widgets have that spammy look, accompanied with dozen of unnecessary links that come along with it. I saw some scenes from the new X Men movie (Origins of Wolverine) that hit the torrents, even before the movie was entirely finished and released. These sort of things happen, and the industry just can’t deal with it. I believe these releases entirely ruin the watching experience. It was so funny seeing Wolverine climbing the 3D model of an unfinished building, hanging from some un-erased cables supporting him. If you’re in for a laugh, try and find some screenshots that float around the net. In the mean time, enjoy this modified version of Pink Lilac Chaser. If you concentrate on the black cross in the center of the animation, the spinning dot will aggressively turn to yellow. Can you see it?

  2. DανιD says:

That’s pretty cool it totally turns yellow when you look at the center; barely takes any time at all. I’ve said it before, but I love this site, daily minute long time wasters are always good. My favourite though was the one with the 100 famous people.

Does it have to be blurry and pixelated for this illusion to work?

I don’t know about you but in addition to the spot turning yellow the blue spots disappeared when I wathced it

    Nice post

  6. Anonymous says:

Yes, with me too the blue spots disappeared while the yellow spot continued to move around.

  7. Anonymous says:

The point of this is that blue spots are supposed to disappear.

  8. Tysss says:

The point of this illusion is that all the blue dots disappear, only the yellow dot that doesn’t exist is visible.

  9. maurizio says:

It works even if you don’t watch at the centre. I thing is something relate to the eye persistence

Share your comments. It’s an optical illusion website, not CNN.com. You are entitled to voice your opinions as is your audience. That is one of the things I like about your site, even though you censored me the other day when I expressed my opinion on Elvis, Jim Morrison and Madonna. That’s ok, you have the right to do that to. It’s your site, do as you please.

  11. Vurdlak says:

I haven’t censored you Craig, why would I ?? it’s only that your comments appear once I approve them.

I think this is to do with Neural colours, these are amazing in themselves….wikki them & find out more :O)
its why you are convinced the book you are looking for had a red colour and it turns out to be green!

  16. *Sarah* says:

The blue spots turn yellow one after the other, that is creating the illusion that there is a dot spining around in a circle. You can see it when your focus is on the black cross because your eyes are not then busy follwing a non exsistant dot in a circle.

Comment are the heartbeat of this website–ours and Vurdlak’s.

  18. Tripudelops says:

Cool! the missing dot turns yellow!

And Vurdlak, keep posting this cool outside info. the poll idea sounds great. I like not only seeing these illusions but also other cool things going on.

    Caroline :
I’m coming on your website to see the illusion and understand how it works. I personnaly don’t like when you talk about random stuff like your private life. I would prefer that sort of chitchat AFTER the explanation of the illusion of the day, in order to be able skip it should I feel like it

  20. Anonymous says:

wow this is weird the dot turns redish pink for me i dont see any yellow dots

  21. Craig says:

Sorry, I didn’t see my comments so I assumed that you censored me. Which is ok. I feel like you have the right to censor comments on your site. It seems like you put a lot of effort into your site, and you should be the one who decides what direction it goes in.

  22. Aiman Amani says:

Cool… Where did you find these stuff anyway?

  23. whiskeyjoe says:

    yeah. pretty cool

  24. Lidia says:

whow!, i love this illusion, at first it gets blurry and then turns yellow and for a few moments i stop seeing the blue dots

  25. Anonymous says:

Neat! Colour satuation of the cones ( colour receptors in the eye)gets saturated) so it is less responsive and an complimentary colour occurs ( yellow) I think if the dots were purple the complement would be a green dot ( think I saw that a while ago) If you move your head around while view it reduces the saturation ( light hits a different set of cones and no saturation) and no colour change.

  26. jenpen says:

    very cool!

  27. jenpen says:

    very cool illusion!

  28. Brandon says:

Love it.. The blue dots are supposed to vanish as the yellow dot flashes around the circle. Stare, without blinking, for as long as you can at the black dot in the center. Stare hard. Don’t allow your eyes to wander or follow the flashing dot. They will disappear. If, like some of the viewers have mentioned, you see other colors forming, then I would seek immediate medical care. lol

    Good Luck Everyone…

  29. Anonymous says:

    Very cool!!!
I was reading an article that said you perceive the things you see only as long as your eyes move. Your eyes make many many microscopic movements, but still–that’s why staring makes things disappear, like the blue dots in this one. Try looking around constantly and focusing on different things; the illusion no longer works. Actually I think the illusion is successful if you stare at ANY part of the computer screen.

No, I don’t think the bluriness plays any part.

  30. Matt says:

    weird >_<

  31. Lejla says:

    It’s more orange than yellow…

  32. Also, if you stare at it long enough, the “dot” appears to erase the blue dots when it completes one turn, then places them back again on the next turn, and the pattern continues.

  33. Lea says:

OMG!! this is the craziest illusion ive eve seen the blue dots turn into one yellow dot going around and the the blue dots disappear!

  34. Jasper says:

    Same here dude. lol

  35. sara says:

    woa that is really addictive.

  36. read dis comment says:

wow it turned yellow as soon as i looked at it! then i looked away and it dissapeared!
