Update: this wasn’t done by Nike, but some other company… Since I don’t like optical illusions on this blog to repeat them selves, it’s becoming harder and harder to find original and previously unseen material. Still, optical illusion billboards belong to one of my favorite categories on this website. This time I found two awesome optical illusion advertisements created by Nike. Have you seen this in your area of residence? Not only do these photos belong under billboards, they can also be filed under Impossible Situations. It’s hard to visualize how these took place, and in the first moment you probably think there is nothing extraordinary about them, except the angle from where they were originally shot. But, something strange is definitely going on in there… Anyone can think of a line that should go along these? What is the metaphor/meaning behind these advertised shoes?

    is it really by nike though? looks more like mizuno to me..

    i don’t know how this picture actually works unless it is just down to graphical effects and such.

    The bottom 1 looks photoshopped, but the top 1 looks like a street corner from a low angle

    the ground under one shoe is at right angles to the other. you can see it if you tip your head to match the runner’s.

    I believe that scented is about the closest to what I think,the are showing us that their shoes are great for running on pavement as well as the beach,or dirt roads…The angling is just to grab your eye which obviously works so they win!Great advertising strategy!.God Bless

    I think it is actually possible to shoot the first image, without being photoshoped. Turn the image upside down, and it looks as if the model is trying to run up a wall, and the image is taken while just taking off from the ground, with the camara place really close to the wall and facing upwards towards the sky but also some part of the road.

    Her feet are going in opposite directions, you can see this better if you rotate the picture

    I think the foreground leg is actually a seperate piece from the rest of the body. They take the above picture first, and photoshop the second in.

    these are kinda strange. I at first i liked the effect, but then it just seems goofy. It is a good illusion though.

    These are advertisements, hence they are not supposed to be real. She is not standing on a corner or running up a wall or anything like that. They are photoshopped and yes, it is obvious- no one is trying to hide the fact that graphic designers for this company work hard creating ads like this.

    I was rying to figure out if it was trick photography using some sort of wide angle panoramic lens with the runner stepping from a road onto a beach…but the lack of distortion in the clouds and the shadows on the runners feet would indicate that it is trick photoshophy.

    yes, i agree with scentedxsharkattack. the immages show the shoes’ all-terrain versatility. the picture with the women shows a hard paved road and the soft beach sand. the picture with the man shows a track racing surface and a trail training surface.
