This kind of optical illusions I like the most! It makes me really happy when I manage to motivate my visitors with my articles, for them to try and create their own illusions. As you see Janek created these impossible nuts, and there was no digital manipulation on this photo! If you saw our previous video illusion, you’ll understand how he managed to put this together. Here is what Janek wrote me: “Hi! Yesterday I doubled an illusion from the “Impossible Crate Box Video Illusion“, which really impressed me :) Photo attached, I hope you like it.” Impossible object illusions are awesome, do you agree? Can you solve Janek’s illusion?

Indeed I have. Also, those of you who missed it, “Optical Illusion of the day” Facebook application went live yesterday evening. Did you manage to add it to your profile? Did the application refresh itself? Has the new optical illusion showed up yet? What’s your experience with it? Will you take few minutes to share it with your friends? All this interests me very much. Please comment :)

I would like to add “optical illusion of the day” to my profile in “hi5″. How can I do? Thank you.

I haven’t seen any videos that show how this type of thing is done, but I think that’s probably just a piece of paper with two holes in it, shaded to look three-dimensional.

  4. Evanderiel says:

It’s not so simple as a piece of paper shaded… it’s a real 3D construction, but from the poit of view of the photo our brain read the geometry differently than how it really is.

The solution it’s in the same video of the impossible wooden box previusly posted.

It’s hollow. I know that from all the other illusions that I’ve seen.

    what a creepy looking guy

I dont see the illusion, he has a pen running through two screw-models. It looks right, I see how someone may see it been ‘impossible’ but it didnt work for me. I can explain that just by looking at it

for some reason i cant see the optical illusion…

haha it stumped me the first time i looked at it but then when you look closly its just flat paper made to look 3D. you can also tell that by how the lines where the edges are just seem too drawn…i mean they just stick out too much to me but yeah…

its actually inside out but the angle makes it look like it is 3d.

The facebook api works great! Thanks so much. I hope it gets some of my friends to visit your side. ALWAYS GREAT ILLUSIONS! =)

It is just possible that the shapes are 3D, but he bent the biro.

  13. Anonymous says:

    Maybe the biro’s bent.

  14. Smelly says:

I concur with the wandering goat.

The paper is flat and shaded.

You can see the inner wall of the nuts looks just a bit off.

You can also see just th slightest flex in the paper where the two meet.

“I dont see the illusion, he has a pen running through two screw-models.”

The way the screw-models are set up, it looks like the pen has to bend in order to go through both of them.

And… was a picture of his face necessary for the illusion?

  16. Anonymous says:

The illusion is of course that they made a large rat look like a human being.

I think the guy is cute, not creepy.

I love optical illusions because they are not always what they appear to be. Such is the case with “Janeks” nuts…. Because they are actually a creation of Jerry Andrus. http://web.mac.com/barrybrilliant/JerryAndrus/Creations.html.

  19. Caitlyn says:

i dont no why they bother doing optical illusion cuz im so gr8 at them.

    OMG go me!

  20. Anonymous says:

The pen looks bent to me. Obviously curved!

  21. x-leah says:

i think there are 2 illusions here.the pen through the nuts and his eye-they follow you when you walk around try it out!

http://www.moillusions.com/2007/10/impossible-crate-box-video-illusion.html is a part of this sight with a vid that tells how this illusion and many others are done. Also, I agree with x-leah.
